From the first minute we arrived to our departure the staff at the occidental couldn't do enough for us.On our late arrival the reception informing us of the late buffet left out for us to allocting shower room on departure marvellous. The rooms are modern, spacious and kept to a very good standard.Cleaner cleaned everyday Nuria was a lovely lady always smiling and laughing. The bar in the pool ran by the magnificent Ange and his team once again magnificent, served in minutes.Same in the lobby bar area plenty of staff to accommodate everybody especially the all smiling and joking Said. The pool buffet area is one of the best if not the best we have come across. The main restaurant has everything else up to a great standard and variations will great staff. The animation team lead by Jose was again one of the best we have come across from the usual type of entertainment quizzes, bingo dancing etc to the unusual boxing, cycling in the poo and in large inflatables in the pooll.Entertainment at night up to a high standard, with the exceptional Thursday night Disco/Karaoke in the middle of the pool finishing with the firework display. All in all a magnificent 11 nights stay that absolutely flew.I would deffernately recommend this resort to couples and families they try to accomadate everyone. We have been travelling for 30 yrs or more abroad and this is our first review has we think the resort deserve our extra input. Thanks once again Occidental and all your merryStaff.

    “Great Getaway for a Couple”

Overall a very good experience, good service and nice location. Location: The hotel is in Costa Teguise and is about a 5 minute taxi ride into the town. There is a beach next to the hotel but it is very small. We only went to see the beach once, instead we took the free bus to a nearby beach (Las Cucharas) on a number of occasions. This free bus service was provided by the hotel and the sister hotel Occidental Mar which is located opposite Occidental Playa. The bus ride is about 5-10 minutes. Beach: Las Cucharas is a beautiful beach! Although, you will need money as it is not the hotel’s beach so it does not come under the all inclusive package. There are many bars and restaurants though which are reasonably priced. Also, whilst sunbathing you will be offered ice-creams/drinks for a couple of Euros each regularly throughout the day by a wandering salesman (very friendly)! But ... be prepared to be approached by other people selling things such as massages (very often) and watches etc. The sea is beautiful and clear - a little seaweedy when the tide is out though we noticed. Room: We stayed in a ‘twin’ room which was a double. A good sized balcony meant you could sit outside your room and also dry clothes which was very convenient. The air con was sufficient and WiFi was good in the room (not so good in the pool area). You have to pay for the safe (we didn’t bother, we just hid our valuable documents and money). The room is ‘cleaned’ daily but to be honest, I don’t think it was thoroughly cleaned (no fresh bed sheets etc) for the 10 nights we were there. TV was a good size but we didn’t really have the need to use it. The bathroom was a smidge tired but nothing awful. There is a fridge which you can pay to make into a mini bar - we didn’t. We weren’t sure if the fridge was meant to work or not but it didn’t which was a shame as it would have been useful to chill water and wine we had bought. Hotel food: There is a lot of variety and every night of the week is a ‘theme’ night. You also always have the option of pizza, hot foods including pasta, breads, salads and cold meats/cheeses and lots of dessert options. One thing we noticed was when certain dishes ran out or were running low, it took a while for fresh food to be brought out. So, sometimes you either had to wait or miss out on what you fancied. You get one evening meal in the A La Carte restaurant per stay and this food was divine but you are required to dress up and men are requested to wear long trousers. Facilities: We really only used the restaurants, pool and my husband used the gym which served its purpose well. However, there are other facilities available for the more sporty types such as tennis courts, mini golf etc. There is also a sauna and spa but not sure if this costs or not. There is only a gift shop in the hotel but there is a little supermarket outside the opposite sister hotel to get bottled water and anything else you need. We did need paracetamol during our stay so had to go to a pharmacy in Teguise - about E3.50 taxi fare one way. Pool: There are supposedly two pools although we never found the smaller one. It didn’t matter though as the main pool was great. Water was rather cold but you get used to it! Plenty of sun loungers but there are a number of them in the shade so if you like sun, best to head down early to secure a bed in the sun and not under a tree. There is a policy that if a sun lounger with towels on is not used for 60 minutes, your belongings will be removed so that it frees the lounger up for someone else but we never had any issues. You have to pay extra for pool towels so best to pack some of your own and some washing powder to wash them which is what we did! Bars: There is one main bar and a pool bar, both of which are open until late. You have to pay for premium spirits or cocktails but they have an extensive list of free options which satisfied us! There are self serve stations for non alcoholic soft drinks, water and coffee. Excursions: We did the Volcanic Grill - AMAZING! That’s all I will say as wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone. Service: Generally the service was good. Reception were always very helpful. The waiting staff were OK - not so quick to serve drinks in the evening. The bar staff were pleasant - one barman is very good at throwing ice cubes!! Entertainment: I can’t really comment on the late night entertainment as we always either headed up to our room by the time the entertainment started (at 10.30pm) or were sat outside. However, they would normally have a singer in the main bar area at 8.30pm. They do some entertainment throughout the day by the pool like quizzes, Zumba, water polo and water aerobics if you are into that sort of thing. One thing we clicked was that they like to play THE SAME tracks over and OVER again by the pool. One track was played so often it became a running joke (sometimes it was played every other track). But stick some headphones in and you’ll be fine! One downside (not to put future guests off but to highlight to the management) - one day we did see two dead cockroaches. It is a hot place so it’s understandable that there should be some roaches around but they were there all day and not cleaned up. Thankfully they were around the pool area (one in the entrance to the pool and one on the way to the pool toilets) not anywhere near food. All in all a lovely 10 night stay. For the holiday price we were very happy with the hotel. A couple of little things brought the star rating down for us but it wouldn’t put us off returning if we came to Lanzarote again.

    “Lovely clean hotel”

Wanted to goto Lanzarote for a long time decided to book the Occidental playa in costa Teguise well what can we say we wasn’t disappointed from booking in to the room we booked a superior double sea view room which was perfect and very big, the room had a kettle, fridge dressing gown and slippers in it on arrival, with a lovely gift of a chilled bottle of cava and a congratulations card wishing us all the best in our anniversary 💕 The food so many choices to choose from from breakfast lunch and dinner all served in the main restaurant you also had the pool bar near the pool which was constantly filled with food, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was constantly kept clean and tidy, Entertainment from day to the night time was excellent. The occidental is around a five minute walk down to the sea shore but you may struggle to get down to as there is no sandy beaches they are rocks but rest shored 10 minutes walk down the front and you have Golden Sands, there is a lovely town which has plenty of bars eateries shops to choose from. I’m the Rossi has plenty of excursions to do especially ranch bar in player to Carmen which house a daytime excursion Safari Park and a nighttime ranch bar you can go all-inclusive with food and drink and show excellent a must see. The only thing that lets us down at the Occidental there are No late checkout rooms they stipulate this on checking in if you ask I think this is because it is an all round year hotel. You are offered a shower room on checking out your cases can be locked away behind reception and given a shower room for 30 minutes with towel. I have to say personally this was a dreadful room as I would call a sweatbox no Aircon, soap shampoo hairdryer in the room just a hot shower. I expected the amenities after packing all my stuff away but this wasn’t available, Very hard to get dry in a steamed up room and left with wet hair, I think if this was addressed everything would be perfect for this hotel .

“Great staff and ok food in a 70´s Hotel with a very light makeover”

Have recently stayed for 8 nights AI, chose a Junior suite and booked through the Hotel site. Advantages: - Great 5% voucher for extras when booking though Barceló (we spent it on cocktails, bottles of wine and ice cream) - Near the airport - 10 minutes - Large rooms - Food was varied and of reasonable quality, except in the afternoon (only fast food and salad or fruit available) - Kids Club my daughter used and loved - Enjoyed La Gueria restaurant, tuna was good - Easy to Park nearby - Great staff, that you can truly depend on Disadvantages: -Hotel in a dire need of renovation or, sorry to say, demolition (some rooms were renovated, I was given one - 2.501 , but it was above a very noisy machine so had to switch to a regular junior suite that was actually quite nice - 2.313) - Hotel is called Playa but the beach in front is small and rocky -Extremely noisy -Right next to a Power Station -Wifi never worked -Lunch only available from 13h to 15h -No loungers available EVER at the adults pool. -Cockroaches - lots of them at night near the pool bar -Lots of ridiculous paid extras (ex: safe, spa facilities) Lanzarote is lovely and worth a visit, but I doubt I would return to this Hotel, despite the great people behind it.

    “Short Break”

The hotel was great value for money. The food at all meal times was excellent. We would highly recommend and would stay with the Barcelo chain again. The only slight downside was location as we couldn’t find much to do in the main surrounding area, however if you’re ok with a short bus trip to the main strip then you’ll find more shops/ restaurants Etc.
