“17 times at RH- this one was the best”

Just home form our 17th trip to RH, and by leaps and bounds, this was the best trip ever. Starting at checkin, where we were so pleasantly surprised to be treated to an EXTRA special room, thank you Edith!!!The resort remains beautiful as ever, and the new blue based lagoon overhaul will look amazing once complete, we cant wait to see when we are back next trip. All food has stepped up a noth thanks to the new Exec Chef- Alejandro- who was kind enough to provide us with some very special meals, and amazing fresh caught blue-fin tuna. Yes Alejandro- when you come to NY I promise we will go stripe bass fiss'n and you will get a chance to taste NY Linesider sashimi. If you have been to RH before, which many have, all is just as great as ever.If you have not been yet, trust the reviews that come form returning customers, and understand that there must be a good reason that so many guests return year after year.Thank you RH staff, your all the best.

    “Great time at the Hideaway”

This is the 6th time my wife and I have been to this area of Mexico for our “Winter Break”. Living in the north of Scotland it’s a great time of year to visit this part of the world. We have always tried different resorts so this was our first time at the Royal Hideaway and we were not disappointed. Rooms were very comfortable although we could have done with a little more hanging space in the wardrobes, apart from that the bed was very comfortable and all the other amenities in the room were great. I would say without hesitation that of all the resorts we have visited this was consistently the best food we have had and could not complain about one single meal,we did manage to get bookings at all the restaurants for dinner not always at the preferred time but hey ho you’re on holiday so no big deal. Normally we would lie at the beach(which was lovely) but on this occasion we chose to lie at the pools and they were both excellent particularly the infinity pool with a lovely view out to sea and great for an afternoon dip to cool down. In common with the other resorts we have visited the staff were a credit to the resort and one of the main reasons we keep returning to this part of the world, they are without doubt the best. In summation this is a great resort and we will return possibly next year and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Royal Hideaway for a lovely holiday. One small gripe I have is that returning to the UK we normally have a late evening flight so the checkout time of 12 o’clock is a bit early for us and I had to pay quite a lot of money to keep my room until 4pm. I realise that they need to clean the rooms for the intake of people arriving so I do understand the need for the early checkout so perhaps a departure lounge where you can have a shower and cool down before you go off to the airport might be worthy of consideration

    “Thanksgiving Getaway”

The property is great, the staff is fantastic, and the beach is great! However, The management and some of the rules about eating are a little odd. We booked a ocean-view room, the room we received was on the first floor and faced the pool. After speaking to the management they said they could move us into a better room the next day if it was available. It turns out the room was not only available the next day, but also the day we arrived. We had to spend quite a bit of time getting them to move us and we were only staying for five nights. Being an Orbitz VIP member we were entitled to the upgrade which they kept putting off for the first day. This was annoying because we couldn’t entirely relax because we couldn’t unpack because we knew we were going to have to repack the next day to move to another room when it turns out we could’ve just moved on the first day we arrived. You have to make a reservation to eat at any one of the five restaurants that the property has. Some of the times you have to pick from are a little ridiculous. Times at 9 and 10 o’clock at night and the hotel was never near capacity to where they couldn’t accommodate multiple people at say seven or 8 o’clock. They also do not give you a property map there are three separate bars. They tell you there is only one when you arrive. Despite this I definitely would stay here again especially now that I know some of these odd rules that they have.

“Great if looking for quiet and low key”

The hotel was clean and the grounds were very well kept. The food was ok, what you except in an all inclusive, not much better but not bad. Liked the location, 20 min easy safe walk to 5th ave area. Does not have much of a lively vibe, sort of boring. Not much music around pool or beach, no entertainment at all really, and no fun bar areas or pool bars. Maybe better for an older crowd or those looking for quiet and relaxing. Although difficult to relax around the pool unless you get up very early and stake out a chair. Not enough and hotel allows people to save chairs hours on end unattended.

“Best All-Inclusive in Playa Del Carmen”

First of all, let me start out by saying that going on a vacation with a buddy is the absolute best! I had the best time I have ever had in Mexico! When you vacation with a friend that wants to do the same things you do it just makes the whole trip so much more fun. We stayed at the Royal Hideaway Playacar, thanks to my chase sapphire reserve points (best credit card for travels bar none!) We were in phase two the walled of the area in Playa Del Carmen. This location was perfect for my friend Sean and I. Sean had never been to Playa Del Carmen before. So I got to experience Mexico again for the first time through his eyes. What was cool about staying at the Royal Hideaway was that we could walk right into town and enjoy all the great nightlife playa has to offer. This was perfect for us because we could walk in and try a new restaurant or bar every day, then just skip home when we were done. Playa is an adults Disney land there is anything you could want right there for the taking its debaucher is sublime! Another thing that was great about The Royal Hideaway is that it has the best beach in Playa by far. White powdery sand as far as the eye can see in every direction. The water is 82 year around which is just perfect for me. The RHP does not have a swim up bar because it is probably the fanciest all-inclusive in Playa. But really have to tell you the service is top notch at the Royal Hideaway. Every single person that I met there from the bell hops to the hotel manager was so nice and know how to do their job so well. I learned Spanish from using the Fluenz downloaded program. Speaking the language just made the trip so much more fun in every way. First of all, I could effortlessly communicate with all of the people which was just great. I started going to Mexico when I was 23, I have been since 25 times. I figured if I like the country that much I should learn the language. When you speak countries native tongue people really tend to open up to you so quickly. Often times they will give you the inside track on what the really fun things to do are in the area. I took Sean to Xel-ha one day and he told me later that was his favorite day. Xel-ha if you have never been is a truly magical place. Basically, it’s an underground river that opens up to a massive lagoon you float down in an intertube. On the way down you can jump off cliffs into the water, or walk a tightrope over the water. We did rope swings into cenotes and splashed around all day. They have just new super awesome lighthouse shaped water slide. We didn’t get to do it though because we got so busy doing other things that by the time we got around to going there it was closed. But any water park with all you can eat and drink all day long gets an A+ grade in my book! A lot of Americans think Mexico is not safe but it is still the nearby paradise is always was! Mexico just like anywhere you just need be smart and keep your wits about you and pay attention to your surroundings. If you just want to relax in the sun and party for a few days there is no better place to do it than Playa Del Carmen. The Royal Hideaway really was just the perfect icing on the cake it’s one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to, it’s a little more pricey than the other hotels in the area but with its level of professionality a service it’s worth every penny.
