What does the experience include?
Explore the highlights of Lanzarote’s natural landscape and the main points of cultural interest on this exciting tour designed by First Minute Travel. A fascinating opportunity to explore many corners of the island, including Timanfaya, La Geria and the Jameos del Agua in just half a day and without having to hire — or drive — a vehicle.
What you need to know
Our tour begins in the Timanfaya National Park, as we discover its breathtaking scenery — which seems more like a Martian landscape. There, you can experience the high temperatures reached by the Earth’s surface just a few metres away from where you are standing, and you can take as many photos as you like of the famous Timanfaya camels. Next, the tour will follow the Volcanoes Trail to see the sites of the various eruptions which carved out the island’s remarkable landscape between 1730 and 1736.
But the magic of southern Lanzarote doesn’t end there. The bus will then head towards the western coast, where we will find the Salinas de Janubio [Salt Flats], Los Hervidores, and the Green Lake, before we turn back inland to visit the La Geria vineyards. Here, you can appreciate the ingenuity of the local farmers, who overcame the difficulties of cultivating land covered in lava, and succeeded in growing high-quality wines using a system of excavated hollows. Wanting to pay tribute to those men and women who worked the land in this region, the Lanzarote artist César Manrique created the Monumento al Campesino [Monument to the Agricultural Worker] — the final stop on our tour.
Having reached the northern half of the island, our excursion will take us to the village of Haría, although on Sundays we will stop off beforehand at Teguise, the island’s former capital, to visit the popular street market. Our itinerary concludes at Jameos del Agua, where César Manrique once again executed a project harmonising architecture within the natural world.
