What does the experience include?

Visit one of the most remarkable buildings on the Island of Volcanoes. The Fundación César Manrique [César Manrique Foundation], which was the artist’s home for over two decades, is an amazing building where nature and architecture achieve a harmonious integration. This experience is therefore the perfect option both for those who love art and architecture and equally for travellers interested in exploring Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape.

What you need to know

The building, whose name is actually El Taro de Tahiché, is located only 5 kilometres from Arrecife, and was built by Manrique himself in collaboration with various artist friends of his when he returned from the United States.

If you’re staying in Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen, don’t miss the opportunity offered by First Minute Travel to visit the former home of the mastermind who transformed this island: the creator of such iconic works as Los Jameos del Agua, the Jardín de Cactus [Cactus Garden], the Mirador del Río [River Viewing Point], and the Monumento al Campesino [Monument to the Agricultural Worker]. Throughout his long career, Manrique received awards such as the Europa Nostra Prize and the World Prize for Ecology and Tourism in recognition of his intelligent, respectful achievements in harmonising art with Nature.

Manrique’s home, constructed on the site of five volcanic bubbles which the artist made habitable, is the greatest testament to his professional career, his passions, and the love he bore his native island.

The Fundación César Manrique is now a museum whose treasures include works by this Lanzarote-born genius, as well as his personal collection of contemporary art, with works by Cuixart, the Equipo Crónica y Chirino [Crónica and Chirino Team — an artistic movement started during the 1960s], and many others. To sum up, then, this is an essential cultural visit on the Island of Volcanoes.
