Water parks in Minorca, an attractive leisure alternative on this beautiful Balearic island
Minorca, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, is one of the jewels that make up the Balearic Islands. Its natural diversity is only matched by its stunning beaches and coves, and its rich cultural heritage. Its gastronomy, local festivals and traditions will delight anyone looking for a stimulating holiday.
On top of diving into the crystal-clear waters of Cala Mitjana and visiting the famous Naveta des Tudons, lots of other attractions await you in Minorca. There are plenty of water parks spread throughout the different parts of the island. If you’re travelling with your children, this could be a wonderful activity to do together as a family. It’s not unusual for kids to get bored after a busy day of cultural visits, or time spent on a quiet beach. It’s sometimes even us adults who fancy getting away from the most touristic spots and looking for a different kind of leisure. The best thing about these parks, where the fun is all water-focused, is that there are activities for all ages. These are the crème de la crème.
Aquacenter Menorca, one of the island’s first water parks
The small, quiet Cala en Blanes isn’t far from the centre of Ciutadella. If you find yourself at this beach, why not consider paying a visit to the Aquacenter Menorca, which is one kilometre away. Covering more than 12,000 square metres, this is one of the most popular water parks both amongst tourists and locals. Its facilities are wonderfully varied and there are options for everyone, especially if you go with children.
The water attractions include giant slides, an adventure river, flumes, water castles and swimming pools. On the other hand, if you fancy something a little more relaxed, mosey along to the jacuzzis or green spaces. And, if you’d rather stay out of the water, enjoy the karting arena and the videogame arcades. You can also choose between bringing your own food and using the picnic area, having a snack in the bar or eating a full meal in the restaurant. There’s a wide range of possibilities for the best day ever.
You can also take the opportunity to get to know the area of Cala en Blanes, which is a wonderful beach for a convivial day. It’s protected from the wind and very peaceful. Many people consider it perfect for the children, as it’s not very wavy. From there you can walk to Cala en Brut, which comes highly recommended if you’re a big fan of cliff jumping, as long as you take all the right precautions.
Aquarock Menorca: the perfect choice near Cala en Bosch
Cala en Bosch is also near Ciutadella and is another favourite option for a beach day with children. It’s got all kinds of facilities, including showers and beach bars. But, if you’re tired of the beach and want something a bit more excited, the Aquarock Menorca water park is just three kilometres away from this cove. It’s one of the largest and most comprehensive parks on the island.
Here, you’ll find facilities for all ages, such as four incredible slides and a giant wave swimming pool. You can opt to sunbathe in its large area of loungers, enjoy its hot tubs or have fun with your friends on the karting track. If you decide to stay all day long, Aquarock Menorca has a restaurant and a snack bar with a varied menu.
However, if you don’t want to spend all your time at the park, at Cala en Bosch you’ll be able to try your hand at various water sports. What’s more, the marina, which lots of boat trips to neighbouring coves leave from, is very close by. These different combinations will help you plan a jam-packed day out.
Splash Sur Menorca, the island’s most modern water park
This complex is located in the municipality of Sant Lluís, one of Minorca’s most beautiful villages. The landscape surrounding the park is stunning, as it’s right near the fishing village of Biniancolla, whose cove has water so crystal clear that you will remember it for a long time. Splash Sur Menorca is the newest water park on the island. That’s why it’s unmissable, especially if you’re travelling with the youngest members of your family.
This leisure centre covers more than 18,000 square metres and boasts plenty of attraction, including:
- Giant slide. This is the park’s longest slide—an intertwining web of exciting twists and turns.
- If you like speed, then test your mettle on this slide.
- Black Hole. A slide with various loops that you’ll descend in total darkness.
- Adventure River. For this ride, you sit on a giant float.
To all that, you’ve got to add the different themed swimming pools—large areas that are well-equipped with umbrellas and loungers, and even a stage. The park also has a restaurant and a varied menu which includes combination platters, pizza, pasta and options for children. This is an extremely safe water park thanks to its team of lifeguards. One of its main quirks is that they use seawater, which will make you feel like you’re on the beach. You might be interested in the special zone for the youngest children—an eye-catching pirate ship with facilities designed especially for them.
Whilst you’re there, don’t forget to visit the area Biniancolla and Sant Lluís. Here, you can admire the charming, white fishermen’s houses, typical of Minorcan architecture. There are huge numbers of places nearby where you can top off your day after visiting the water park, such as the prehistoric talayots of Es Pujol or the ancient mill at Dalt. Enjoy the nearby beach of Punta Prima, or discover the numerous country walks in the area. And, don’t miss out on trying a few traditional dishes in restaurants such as Ca’n Santi.
These water parks spread around Minorca are destinations that offer a wide range of possibilities. It doesn’t matter if you want to treat your children to a day of adventure, or it’s you who’s the thrill seeker. Try something a little different during your holidays and discover them for yourself.
