A weekend in Fuerteventura

A weekend may seem like a very short time in which to explore Fuerteventura, but it is certainly enough to get a good sense of the magic of this paradise island with its unspoilt beaches, arid landscapes and welcoming people. A weekend will be sufficient to open your eyes (figuratively and literally), and you will leave the island with the desire to return as soon as you can.
Itinerary day 1
6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Puerto del Rosario
Fuerteventura Airport lies just 5 kilometres outside Puerto del Rosario: a buzzing capital city where there’s no room for boredom. This city is home to a maze of whitewashed houses that are interspersed with works of art, offering a range of leisure and cultural activities with something for everyone. It might be a good idea to get your shopping done early on. This is because Puerto del Rosario is home to more shops than any other city on the island.
9:00 PM - 10:30 PM
El puerto
Recently opened, this spectacular theatre is located right next to the marina. This is a good option if you’re travelling with children or friends. Besides serving delicious food, it also puts on various shows and turns into a night club when the sun goes down.
Itinerary day 2
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The Island of Lobos
Access to the Island of Lobos has been restricted to a certain number of visitors per day since early 2019, so we recommend planning your visit in advance. The Martiño lighthouse, the breathtaking La Caldera volcano, El Puertito and a host of hiking trails, beaches, etc. If you leave anything out... You now have a reason to return to Fuerteventura!
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
H2O Juice Bar & Vegan Cafè
Back to Corralejo, the departure point for an excursion to the Island of Lobos, it’s time to recharge your batteries. This unusual establishment, run by a Swiss-Italian couple, has become a flagship for lovers of vegan cooking, although its culinary offer includes all kinds of delicatessen.
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Corralejo
Before leaving for your next port of call, you cannot miss out on taking a stroll through the streets of Corralejo. Modern, dynamic and full of life, this is one of the flagships of the north of the island—not only because of its abundant culinary and leisure options, but also because of its wide range of water activities and its lively nightlife.
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Corralejo Sand Dunes
The Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park, the biggest and best sand dune complex in the Canary Islands, constitutes one of the main natural beauty attractions in northern Fuerteventura. Sea, sand and volcanic rock intermingle in this space which affords panoramic views that you’ve previously only dreamed of.
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
La Oliva
Just by stepping foot in La Oliva, you’ll be blown away by an architecture that stands apart from anything else found on the island. The Casas de Manrique de Lara and the Casa del Inglés are good examples of this. However, it is best depicted in the Casa de Los Coroneles [House of the Colonels], which is an iconic historic monument in the Canary Islands.
21.30-23.00
El Horno Restaurant
Famed for its roast goat dishes, the El Horno restaurant, located in the same municipality, is one of the island’s finest. The establishment has a wood-fired oven which lends its dishes a recognisable hint of rusticity. But be sure to leave room for one of its delicious desserts!
Itinerary day 3
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Ajuy Caves
We recommend getting up early to witness the commercial transactions between pirates. The Ajuy Caves are the island’s claim to fame and are very popular with tourists. This wonder of nature is the result of the action of waves of lava flowing over the cliffs. A journey to the centre of the Earth that you simply cannot afford to miss.
12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Betancuria
Founded in the fifteenth century as a capital, the town of Betancuria is one place in Fuerteventura that you must visit if you have any interest in history. But its cultural heritage is not its only asset, as the spectacular volcanic setting it enjoys is another attraction.
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
La Sombra Restaurant
What was once a courtyard where people would have lunch and meet friends is now one of Fuerteventura’s best restaurants. Offering fantastic rustic and urban cuisine, La Sombra is always a hit with locals and visitors alike. One of its plus points is its commitment to using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
5:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Costa Calma
Its two kilometres of white sands and turquoise waters make the Costa Calma beach the ideal place to relax at the end of a journey. This beach is unique for the way in which different stretches of coastline are united at low tide, forming two family-friendly beaches to the north and a surfer’s beach to the south.
8:30 PM - 10:00 PM
La Bodega de Jandía
This gastronomic treasure is, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants to bid farewell to the weekend. Located in Morro Jable, the success of its cuisine resides, predominantly, in the quality of its tapas, but also in the way the owner has managed to transmit his philosophy that, in hospitality, “the finer details” are key.
