Itinerary
Stop at: Güimar
We will start in Güimar to climb up to the viewpoint of Don Martin, which has magnificent panoramic views of the valley.
Güimar is a municipality located in the southeast of the island, a short distance from the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, bordering Arafo, La Orotava and Fasnia. It reaches its highest point in Izaña, where an important astronomy center and one of the oldest meteorological observatories in Spain is located. Located in the Valley of Güímar, the municipality with which it shares its name has the Special Natural Reserve of the Malpaís de Güímar, formed by a large volcanic cone and the landscape left by the lava when it meets the sea. Its rugged coastline has some coves of coves and black sand at the mouths of the ravines of Herques, El Escobonal or Badajoz. It has a cozy marina that has all the services that sailors who dock there may need. Next to it, the popular beach of El Puertito protects bathers from the waves thanks to several stone breakwaters.
Stop at: Fasnia
Our route continues to the south passing through typical villages of the island like Fasnia. Here begins a leg-breaking terrain with a continuous up and down that becomes quite fast if you are in good shape. We will be all the way at an altitude that will vary between 400 and 700 meters above sea level.
Fasnia is a municipality located in the southeast of Tenerife and bordering Güímar, Arico and La Orotava. Although much of its terrain is arid due to the scarcity of rainfall, on the summits there are pine forests in which the influence of the trade winds can be appreciated. In the ravines of Herques and Los Muertos archaeological sites have been found: Even some writings of the XVI century affirmed that it was one of the regions in which the Guanches lived with the Castilians after the conquest. In Fasnia there is an abundance of vineyards, flowers, potatoes and tomatoes. On its coast, the cliff of La Hondura, declared Site of Scientific Interest, and Los Roques, a place of singular natural beauty, stand out.
Stop at: Arico
Continuing to Arico.
Arico is the second largest municipality of Tenerife and is located in the south of the island, between Fasnia and Granadilla de Abona. It is divided into two urban groups, Arico el Viejo and Arico el Nuevo, and the coastal towns of Tajao and El Porís, popular for their bathing areas and their restaurants specialized in fresh seafood, stand out on the coast.
These coastal restaurants are only one of the attractions of its gastronomy, known for the enormous quality of Arico's cheeses and wines. In addition, some dishes such as puchero (stew) or the famous salted fish with chestnuts from Arico el Viejo are very famous.
As for its heritage, some buildings dedicated to worship as the Church of San Juan Bautista (with an original Portuguese colonial style tower of the seventeenth century), the Church of the Virgen de la Luz or the Hermitage of San Bartolomé stand out.
Stop at: Granadilla
And ending in Granadilla.
Granadilla de Abona occupies an area of 155 km2 in the south of Tenerife. It is the third largest municipality of the island and reaches up to the Guajara mountain, with an altitude of 2,718 meters. It forms the region of Chasna together with Fasnia, Arico, Vilaflor de Chasna, San Miguel de Abona and Arona. Of all these municipalities, Granadilla de Abona is the one with the most Cultural Interest Assets. It is considered that Granadilla de Abona was the last stronghold of resistance to the conquest of the Canary Islands, and that in 1519 it hosted the visit of Ferdinand Magellan's fleet on his first voyage around the world.
Stop at: Playa de Las Américas
After Granadilla all the hard work of this stage will be done and we will only have to descend 20 kms to Playa de las Americas.
Playa de las Americas is a destination where thousands of people go to enjoy a lively, colorful and vibrant vacation, famous for its 24-hour non-stop parties, has become one of the must-visit places in Europe.
