World Travel Awards 2020 – First class destinations to visit this year

The World Travel Awards are the most anticipated event in the travel industry. Everyone who is anyone in the world of travel has a vested interest in this award ceremony and it is so prestigious that it has been colloquially called the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry. The awards go out to the best hotels in the world among other things and this year the World Travel Awards 2020 took place on 2nd November as an online gala due to the pandemic’s restrictions on gatherings. There was no shortage of exuberance and glamour however and industry giants tuned in from all corners of the world eager to see who ranks as the nicest hotel in the world.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the World Travel Awards 2020 and to celebrate, the Barceló Hotel Group started the night with a dazzling 42 nominations making them the most nominated hotel chain at the awards. If this wasn’t impressive enough, Barceló was awarded the honour of being the ‘Best Hotel Chain of Mexico and Central America’ as well as winning a total of six best hotels in Europe awards including, ‘Spain’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ and ‘Europe’s Leading Beach Hotel’. On top of this, three more nominations were received for the grand final of the awards to be held on the 27th November in Moscow.

There was tough competition in the European market as the best resorts in Europe battled it out to be nominated at this year’s awards.
