Madrid, influencer style: Deniz Colak’s tips for a weekend in the capital

If you’ve got your eye on a short break in the Spanish capital, you’ll have been wondering how best to make the most of your precious holiday time. Luckily for you, influencer Deniz Colak has got there first, spending a few days in a luxury hotel in Madrid and exploring the delights of the city.

Read on to find out what she got up to for a little inspiration for your weekend in Madrid.

So, who is Deniz Colak?

In case you’re not already one of Denis’ 157 thousand Instagram followers, you’ll be curious to know what Denis’ story is.

She spells her name both Denis and Deniz, which, granted, can get a little confusing, but once you’ve discovered her Instagram account, you’ll be hooked. She brands herself as a fashion, lifestyle and travel blogger, which means she’s constantly travelling the world, and looking amazing whilst she’s at it.

She shares her experiences both on her beautiful Instagram account and on her blog.

The 29-year-old is originally from Turkey, but she’s been based in the UK since 2014. She moved to Manchester for university and studied Fashion and Textile Retailing, and then she moved down to London.

She’s also spent time in New York, but London is still home for her when she’s not jet setting around the globe. She shares her home with her gorgeous dog, Teddy.

H2: Things to do in Madrid according to Deniz

Deniz Colak was only in town for a short time, but she certainly crammed a lot in, and she shared all her favourite spots with her Instagram followers.

When it came to eating out in Madrid, Deniz really nailed it. She really got stuck into Madrid’s food scene, and particularly mentioned StreetXo Madrid, who are a bit of an Instagram sensation themselves, for mouth-watering, amazing tapas.

On the subject of food, like the majority of food-lovers who visit Madrid she ended up at the Mercado de San Miguel. Here at the San Miguel food market, you can enjoy everything from the famous chocolate con churros, to tapas, to slap-up lunches and dinners. It’s a fantastic place to dive headfirst into Madrid’s gastronomy and sample all kinds of different things, both traditional and fusion.

Of course, all that food had to be washed down with a drink or two. She went for drinks at Lux Madrid and opted for Aperol Spritz, and also headed for Gingko Sky Bar, which is legendary for its sunset views. It’s open day and night but is best on a summer evening. Go for sunset and stay for dinner and cocktails.

When it came to things to see in Madrid, Deniz Colak’s priority was, naturally, sharing the most Instagram-able spot with her followers. She opted for El Palacio de Cristal, which is a stunning glass house in the Parque de Retiro.

This is one for architecture buffs too, one of the finest examples of iron architecture in the city. It was built back in 1887 for an exhibition and was originally a gigantic greenhouse, but is today just used for the occasional exhibition, and as a fantastic backdrop for your holiday snaps.

The rest of the Parque de Retiro isn’t to be sniffed at, either. It’s a slice of nature right in the middle of the city and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Why not rent out one of the many rowing boats on the central lake and mess around on the water for a while?

The park is definitely one of the places to visit in Madrid that you just can’t miss.

And, last but not least, Deniz Colak shared a hot tip on how to get around. Uber scooters are a relatively new thing in Madrid but they’re growing in popularity, as the city centre is perfect for scooting around in. Make sure you follow the safety instructions and don’t scoot after a couple of Aperol Spritz.

H2: Where to stay in Madrid: discover the Barceló Torre de Madrid for yourself

It’s perfect for anyone looking for the ideal mix of modernity and sophistication, and has all the facilities you could ever need on your holiday in Madrid, with a stylish bar, multiple restaurants and a Wellness Zone for anyone who wants to keep up their fitness regime during their weekend in Spain.
