    “Very relaxing”

    Would like to thank Thomas and Carlos for the Fine dining we received almost every night in the Grand restaurant. Superb service and they we always super friendly. Didn't go to the main buffet all week for dinner. The beach restaurant was good but I Didn't enjoy the sea food experience. Not the resorts fault. The beach was good and the service for drinks at the beach was great. All the staff very very friendly. The rooms were perfect. Very clean . The draw back to the rooms would be that the guests put their dirty dishes from Rom service out in the hallways outside of the rooms. The animals climb the stairs and make a mess in the hallways. Again not the resorts fault but the guests should leave dirty dishes in the rooms and the cleaning staff will remove them during the day. Had a very relaxing week. A much older crowd than what I expected. Not a bad thing but surprising. Thumbs up ! Would come back again in a heart beat. Thanks Occidental Grand

    “Very nice, but needs improvement”

    This is a beautiful property built into the jungle. No beach view rooms, but a very nice beach and several nice pools. Royal Level has a private restaurant and while the food was better there, service could be painfully slow - 90 minutes for a soup and sandwich "quick" lunch. The food is better than some all inclusive a I've stayed in, but I was glad to head to Alberto's for a nice dinner out - and much better food. Our room, 2031, was spacious and well appointed and we loved it.

    “First time back since Barcelo took them over”

    Over all this has been great for the Occidental. They have moved the Buffet to the seaside lunch area, in put in a enclosed buffet area. Having your breakfast in the morning out there is why you go on vacation to relax in enjoy the view. The only down side to our trip, was the day passes on the weekend they should limit the amount they sell. The pool area is so congested you get half a glass pool water because of the young kids jumping in, no supervision If you are a diver this is a great location we have been coming to Cozumel since the 90's an stayed at menny places south of the town, instead of a half hour boat ride,.. you are just minutes away. I have been diving with "Dive With Martin" great shop $255 for 4 day's of diving.

    “We left”

    I have never left a hotel in my life until now - and I'm not a snob or the like, I have been in many places from 5 star luxury to motels and campings. We arrived, first thing that happened was someone telling us about 90 minutes meeting about the new acquisitions of Barceló (obviously time share selling - when we asked clearly, they said, "well is not a time share is a vacation club, time share is the hotels that have condominium in the name"). We finally get to the reception of the royal level, we got greeted by a woman that seemed to be on her first day - as she wasn't sure of anything or could reply anything. We went to eat to the restaurant at the royal level, it was ok but the food wasn't quality. The man working there, one that does not really walk straight, was really nice and friendly - the best at the Cozumel together with the woman at the kids club. When we go to to the room, wifi wasn't working. We asked and it wasn't going to be fixed to at least next morning at 9 as it was afternoon and the guy will not come until next day (!?). Wifi just works in the royal level area and in the lobby anyway - when it works. Room is old, it was probably a great room 10 years ago but now it feel worn. Beds weren't comfortable and quite small. Well, we were happy and going to have a great holiday, so we headed to the beach where we got some cocktails - they were so strong, not drinkable, that's not a good drink in my opinion.. not the more alcohol the better. My son got a juice, they didn't have any fresh juice. Beach was ok. Then dinner time, we went to the buffet - food wasn't good (neither the taste or the looks or the qualify) the only thing that was good was the fajita buffet. Anyway, my husband ate the buffet and got food poising! - he got so sick, he was knocked out 1 day. Kids club next day, the woman there es super friendly and seemed to know what she was doing. It was raining and there wasn't much going on, though. 11 of next day and internet still wasn't working and nobody knew anything of anything. At this point we decided to change hotels. Hotels.com made a refund and we paid for the night we stayed. Hotels is at most a 3 stars and it seems that they just want to sell the time share. Staff at the royal level reception is probably underpaid and they don't care much. You find them always looking at their phones and they never reply any inquiries with actual information. Very disappointing.

    “Dream vacation”

    We took a vacation July 15 - July 21, 2017 and had the time our lives!!! We were originally booked at another resort and decided to switch to the Occidental and then also upgraded to the Royal Level. It was fabulous!!! The room was very big, nice and cool, the grounds were immaculate and a short easy walk to the beach and other pools. The staff were all very friendly from the maids to the bar tenders to the maintenance workers. We had trouble with our safe in the room and never had to wait more than a few minutes for maintenance to come to the room and work on it. Unfortunately it took 3 times of trying to fix it before they finally replaced it, but again, we never had to wait more than a few minutes for them to come to our room. The maids did an excellent job of cleaning and leaving fresh towels for us each morning. The wildlife was incredible to see each day - iguanas, birds, lizards, the little racoon things, turtles, etc...........so fun to see!! The pool water in each pool was clean and refreshing - the ocean water was just so beautiful!!! IF I were to say anything negative about the resort would be the food. The restaurants that we made reservations at had very good food, and the breakfast buffet was pretty good as well. However, the lunch buffet by the beach had a little to be desired........it wasn't terrible and you could probably find something there and you would not starve, but it wasn't great. However, we did eat lunch and/snacked while it was open and it satisfied our hunger. I would suggest maybe reviewing the quality of food and maybe making some improvements. Hamburgers were grilled outside during the day and smelled wonderful, but understand that the hamburger is NOT the same as it is in America - different texture and a little different taste. Just something to get used to is all. My husband and I had a wonderful time in your resort - the most relaxing vacation ever actually. We definitely will be back!!! Terry Maddux Wichita, KS
