    “Royal Club does not disappoint!”

    This was our 20th year Anniversary going to Cozumel, either at the Allegro or Grand. Barceló took over the clubs a few years ago renaming the Grand, the Occidental Cozumel .Since taking over the resort Barceló has made some wonderful improvements! One is the A/C. It used to be really a challenge to get the room cooled, but now, it will be downright cold if you want! Nice upgrades in the showers as well. We absolutely love this resort, the grounds are magnificent, the rooms are very spacious and housekeeping does a wonderful job keeping them clean every day! Most of the staff works incredible hard and their efforts are quite apparent! The ladies at the Royal, Emma and Jennifer were new to us and did a great job. Margarita has been a wonderful asset for them for years now, she is just incredible and once again, made us feel so important! We did notice quite the turnover in staff from before especially in the breakfast and lunch buffet. Crystal is fantastic, her smile and attitude are just incredible. Some of the new staff, not so much. They would take your drink order and never return! I am thinking more training is needed to fix this! We ended up, if we didn't have Crystal at breakfast stopping and getting our own on our way in. Omelette stations offers great choices to add to your eggs. Most of the other entrees are fine, nothing special. Lunch was your basic buffet, love the homemade chips and guacamole. They brought back the fresh ice cream which was such a welcome surprise! The lunch buffet is on the water, that in itself is always wonderful. The entrees could use some work! We love the specialty restaurants, their menus are great and very enjoyable. We tried eating breakfast at the Royal club rest. but after waiting over 10 minutes for menus, coffee and tea, we went to the buffet. Definitely some opportunites there... Nadia, the guest services manager was great, always going above and beyond. She is another wonderful asset to the club. Responding to emails very timely! The bartender Victor at the adult pool has also been around for years and is terrific. There was a need for more umbrellas around the adult pool. People were moving them on a daily basis. Seating got a bit light at the adult pool as well after they removed close to a dozen chairs one morning. The beach is fantastic, one of the most beautiful on the island!! I loved my daily walks on them, terrific moments of Zen!!! Time share people stopped us a couple of times, but when they discovered how long we have been coming to Cozumel, left us alone! very grateful!!! We both feel that once the new people are adequately trained, all will be back to its normal standards of excellence, fantastically friendly and wonderful staff members! Wifi is included if you upgrade to the Royal Club, if not you can purchase it for your stay Needless to say, we will be back!!!

    “Royal Club Week”

    We just came back from a week at the Royal Club at the Occidental Cozumel. This was our sixth visit there and enjoyed a lovely stay. Barcelo, 5he new owners have made improvements to the grounds, the rooms and the food.....all of which were greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the people working at the resort, several of whom have been there as long as we have been going. Some highlights..... 😍 La Caretta....the Riyal Club restaurant. The food was better, the service was outstanding. We especially appreciated Carlos and Thomas....and the coffee flambé! 😍The pool in the Royal Club. A welcome refuge after a day of snorkeling. 😍 A surprise gift of champagne and sweet treats one evening. 😍 The grounds...beautifully maintained! 😍 Both Los Olivos and Sonora restaurants....we enjoyed good meals in both and were especially impressed with the steaks...the best we have had in Mexico, ever! The food in The Coral was uneven, but very creative. The red wine and blue cheese ice creams were delicious! 😍 The people. I have named a few above, but we also appreciated the bar tenders in the Lobby Bar, the concierges in The Royal Club and the very busy wait staff in the Beach Club. A couple of suggestions..... Keep working on the food. A varied menu in La Caretta would be greatly appreciated....what is there is good, but an alternating menu would make it even better. I know the gift shop is not run by the hotel owners, but the merchandise is very limited and a bit shabby. All in all, we had a lovely week!

    “Wonderful vacation overall ”

    “Great place with a few negatives”

    Second time here and we are very happy with this hotel.. The rooms are clean and spacious. Housekeeping is great. The grounds are lovely. The beach and pools can't be beat. Food in the buffets is typical buffet fare. The a la carte restaurants are great. They offer a nice selection of well presented meals. La Carreta is the restaurant that is specific to the Royal Level and while its menu is pretty limited, both the food and staff are fantastic. The negatives are few, but somewhat nagging. The biggest is the lack of nightlife, specifically a music venue that offers dancing opportunities. The disco seems to offer hip hop/rap or karaoke. Not exactly what a crowd mostly over 40 wants to rock out to. One night, a local oldies band was brought in form 9-10 and rocked the lobby. Unfortunately, the only bar open at that time had a single bartender who was not able to keep up. At 10, the crowd went to the disco, only to find it closed. Other nights featured a small circus, magic act, and name that tune. Not exactly earth shaking entertainment. Another negative is the quality/strength of the drinks. Recipe for a given drink varies depending on the bartender and strength is pretty weak. Last negative is the adequacy/experience of the staff. Buffet and restaurant service staff were often in short supply resulting in long waits for drinks and refills of the food tables. Our last morning, we had to catch and early cab and so headed to La Carreta shortly after 7. The only staff in sight were two cleaning ladies. We waited 10 minutes for a waiter to appear. He then seated us, gave us menus, and disappeared. After waiting for 5 minutes for him to reappear, we left and went to the buffet. Pretty disappointing as we were looking forward to one last meal at La Carreta. Even with these negative, we highly recommend this hotel complex.

    “Keeps getting better”

    Well just like always greeted with a smile and a glass of Champagne by the Royal Level representative's. Then greeted to an amazing dinner from the staff in La Caretta. Oh and not to forget the special shooters to start the vacation. They accommodated our family with 3 rooms side by side which worked out perfect. There were days we just sat back and enjoyed the heated Jacuzzi pool with a few beverages within the Royal Level area. I,m not sure I can find any faults throughout the entire resort from the staff/ Managers to the amenities they provide in Royal Level. I would recommend staying up late at least 1 night to enjoy the roof top pizza's awesome. I would return in a heart beat knowing all staff treat everyone like family.
