    “Mexican getaway”

Least: Pools were not always ready for occupancy at 8:30 as towels were not available, chairs not out and cleaning still going on. Best: The show and the Aquarium in the park The room was very nice and we really liked the king size bed. Also appreciated the robes, slippers and bottled water/snacks in the room.

    “Beatiful Hotel and Terrific staff”

We purchased out vacation from a third party seller...Bookit and received a terrific deal. We had a week in the Royal Club and we were spoiled and pampered at every turn. We had booked a deluxe room, but we were upgrade to a suite! Great surprise! The staff in the Royal Club are the best! Karen at the concierge desk was so helpful! The waiters at the bar and restaurant were great! The food and drinks were superb! Highly recommend this place. The grounds were huge, but a friendly trolley will pick you and take you around the place. We will be back!

“Looks promising but a bit disapointing”

Just came back from a family vacation for my in-laws 50th anniversary from Occidental at Xcaret. Let me start off by saying I have gone to a few other more expensive resorts and I am a bit spoiled when it comes to resorts now. This review will be a bit brutal unfortunately but for the price it's not a terrible resort. The room - The room was very clean and very modern. Lots of tile work and stone work which I always like to see in resort bedrooms. Here are some key points: - Was difficult to get the humidity out of the room - There is a slot right by the entry door that you have you put your keycard in to activate the power to the room. They say you need to use your room key but any credit card shaped item will work to trigger the switch. We let a AAA card in there the whole time. - Be forewarned, do NOT close the balcony door behind you. It locks and there is no handle on the outside to get back in. I had to let my wife in after the door locked behind her. - Beds were very comfy. - No very sound proof, lots of outside noise and noise heard from neighbors. - Bathrooms were well put together. - Shower water temp was terrible. We went from being scalded to frozen within seconds very often. - The minibar was very nice. Included Pepsi's, 7-up, Diet and a couple Modelo's. Also, a bag of chips and some peanuts everyday. It's nice having a snack in the room. Check in - - Check in process is VERY slow. We waited in line for about 15 minutes and then it took another 10 to get all situated. I'm confused about the situation since we have already taken care of all the details - You are required to wear a non-removable wrist band the whole time which is very annoying. - Offered drinks while we waited. Grounds - - Grounds were very well maintained. - Constant cleaning being done. - Spray for mosquitoes every night. - Grounds are very closed off as if you are almost in a jungle. You can get turned around very easily and it is very confusing. We were there for a week and still didn't have a handle on it. - Buildings were very pretty and well constructed. - The resort is about 45 min to an hour outside of the airport so it was a quite a trek out there. Pools - - There are three different pools; one for general guests, one for timeshare guests and one for royal level. - We stayed in the general guests pools and it was not amazing by any means but not terrible. - There are three main general pool areas all linked together. One where most of the activities happen, one where the drinking and main swim up bar is and one more relaxed one. - All the pools tended to be very loud and not great for relaxing. Since it's a family resort there is a lot more noise and activity. - There are only about 10-20 chairs that were good for quiet reading. - Lounge chairs were very uncomfortable and unable to lay completely flat. If you sat up the back of the chair would snap toward you and the lock would come undone. It was very annoying. - The upper level pools had better chairs but not for general public. The Beach - - If you are looking for long beaches, this is not the place. - The beach is a man made inlet that is not very large. - The rest of the coast for the resort is all rocks - The inlet was nice and there was food nearby but not the best beach you can get for sure. Food - - There are two places for breakfast buffet; one near the main food area and one near the beach. - Both breakfast and lunch buffets were pretty good and had a good amount of choices. - Dinner had more choices: Mediterranean, Mexican, Steak, Seafood and Oriental. We tried all of them except the Mexican restaurant as we ran out of time. - Most all of the dinner restaurants were good as well food wise. - Wait times were very long to get seated and then long to get your food. Dinners would take at least 2 hours from sit to finish. - The quickest service was El Pescador, the seafood restaurant. That was the best experience with service and is the only outdoor dinner. - A lot of the time food for the buffets were incorrectly labeled. Every time we had a salad and the one marked as Ranch of Cesar it would end up being blue cheese. Many other labels were either flat out wrong or translated incorrectly for English. - Restaurants did not take reservations. This created bottle necks at peak times and left people waiting for tables for long instances. - We had gone to the steak house twice due to a family preference and the first time the steak was well over cooked from my request and the second time the steak came completely raw on the inside. They had a lot of steaks to cook but more care should be taken. - Menus tended to be a bit confusing. A lot of words were misspelled and just didn't have a lot of QC done prior to printing the English menus. - Many of the items on the menu were much different than what was described. Staff - - Staff was very friendly and always willing to help. - Everyone had a smile on and greeted you as you walked by. - Ada and Miriam in the Spa were out masseuses and did excellent work and provided great service. Activities - - The activities were a bit lacking. It was almost the same thing every day and not much variation. - A little bit more creativity would be helpful. - Night time shows were also a bit cheap/cheesy feeling. There was some moments with people with great talent but some of stages looked like something a high school play would create. The chairs were also a bit haphazardly place in the audience area. General - - It's a Pepsi resort, which was a bit of a let down as I am a Coke guy for sure. That is total preference though. - You only get an hour of free wifi in the lobby per day and it's incredibly slow. We of course ended up in the process of buying a new home and needed wifi to get s few things done and this made it difficult. You can purchase wifi for faster speeds but was a bit pricey and most places just offer free wifi nowadays. At the same time it was nice to disconnect from the world but our situation wouldn't allow that for us. - A lot of direction that was received was very confusing or wrong (knowing how to power our room with the key cards, maps of the grounds) - The music that they had playing overhead was super corny musak that was typically a knock off of a popular song but sang in a bad lounge singer tone. I would have rather had just instrumental stuff playing and it needed to be turned down some. The lobby was so loud with the echoes from the large stone walls that it was hard speaking to people right next to you. Overall, if you are going with your family and looking for something on a budget this wouldn't be a bad place. I'm still a young married couple without kids so it wasn't quiet up our alley yet. If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet vacation, I would not recommend this location. Spend a little bit more and you will get a few more amenities and it won't feel so cheap.

    “Nice and big resort”

Very nice resort. People working there were very friendly. Though the buffet can be better, I won’t complain the freshness and variety of fruits. And it is next to two recreational parks, and you have a lot to do, for both relaxed and active type. Overall, a good value place for family vocation.

“Spoiled by the pseudo sales people”

At first seems an idyllic destination for a holiday, once you look past the hyped up exterior you see the false facade. At every opportunity you are harassed to purchase "extras" and invited by the "concierge" (salesman) to a no obligation pitch which turns out to be the typical yank hard sell for "membership" (time share) with the most arrogant yank in the world who retorts to sarcasm and insults when you don't buy off him. Would recommend the hotel but stay away from the patter. Most satisfying thing was knowing that for a $10 bottle of tequila, a beach bag and discount for the xceret park I totally pissed the guy off and lost him his commission, if Carlsberg did karma.
