Leticia Moreno and her violin delve into the tango

‘I am looking forward to reaching that magical destination where I believe we will all be extremely happy’. This sums up the violinist Leticia Moreno’s excitement before the May 26th concert that opened the 2018-2019 season of the Formentor Sunset Classics Festival. Accompanied by the ‘New Tango Project’ quintet—featuring Claudio Constantini on the bandoneon, José Gallardo on the piano, Uxia Martínez on the bass and Anneleen Lenaerts on the harp—, Leticia Moreno performed a musical journey through the tango in a breathtaking setting.

The musical experience, according to Felipe Aguirre, the festival's artistic director: ‘The project with which we opened the festival strives to update the revolution of the tango that the Argentinean Piazzolla led with his work to give the style a new air’. This musical style shares ties with the roots of Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, which became a reality in 1929 thanks to the determination, vision and dreams of the Argentinean Adan Diehl, and it also swept Moreno off her feet from the moment she discovered Piazzolla. ‘His music has an incredible complexity and depth that he shapes into something direct and beautiful that is easy to listen to, and instead of being simple, it is the complete opposite’, explained the violinist.

For this reason, the programme has been designed to delve into the composers and their works that defined Piazzolla’s music as well as his life and character, and led him to create this unique and revolutionary message.

With this letter of introduction, the Madrid-born violinist was accompanied by great musicians to fill Formentor Bay with the works of legendary composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, Bartók, Ginastera and, of course, Piazzolla, all centred around the tango.

DUDAMEL AND THE VIENNA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA BLEND MODERNITY AND TRADITION IN A UNIQUE CONCERT

Gustavo Dudamel, the youngest conductor ever of the New Year concert with the Vienna Philharmonic, also presided over the final concert of the Formentor Sunset Classics Festival which, for the first time, was held outside Majorca. On this occasion, it was the Teatro Real in Madrid which welcomed Dudamel. “I am thrilled to be conducting in this classic theatre, with its mysterious acoustics that are not found in modern venues,” explained the Venezuelan in the pre-concert press conference, where he revealed his excitement at what would be his début at the Royal Theatre.

It was his first appearance at this venue, but not his first performance with the Vienna Philharmonic. Dudamel’s considerable experience, belying his youth, includes several appearances with this legendary orchestra. So this concert was enriched by the combination of a young conductor, brimming with talent and natural flair, who champions modernity in classical music, with a historic orchestra, acknowledged as one of the finest in the world. This orchestra is now approaching its bicentenary, and has no difficulty instilling awe into anyone with its impressive blasts of sound.

The orchestra demonstrated exactly that from the opening notes of the concert, with the shadowy Viennese introspection of the Adagio of Mahler’s unfinished Symphony No. 10. This was followed, after the interval, by Berlioz’s dynamic, expansive Symphonie Fantastique. A remarkable journey for the senses between different shores, brilliantly presided over by the maestro Dudamel.

Bernstein’s Waltz Divertimento and Josef Strauss’ Winterlust polka rounded off a unique concert in which the Venezuelan conductor even allowed himself to joke with the audience as the first notes of the Divertimento sounded, in keeping with his approachable, outgoing personality.

A performance that brought together a genuine “musical genius”—according to National Geographic magazine—and one of the finest orchestras in the world in an unusual setting, but one equally as remarkable as the original. What an magnificent finale!

THE PENULTIMATE FORMENTOR SUNSET CLASSICS CONCERT, SHOWCASING THE STRIKING VOICE OF OLGA PERETYATKO-MARIOTTI

The Russian soprano dominated the stage at the Formentor Sunset Classics on the shore of the mesmerising Mediterranean sea, as she performed genuine highlights from her extensive lyrical repertoire. In this final stage of one of the most prestigious and beautiful festivals of classical music, Peretyatko-Mariotti brought down the curtain on an evening of superb musical quality during which the coloraturas of her powerful voice flowed to the harmonies of Mozart, Offenbach and Donizzetti.

Before going up onto the open-air stage with the sea as a backdrop, the singer said: “I feel truly privileged to be involved in this festival, with its lovely setting and amazing history. I am very happy to be part of the Formentor Sunset Classics, and I believe the audience senses this”. A few minutes later, her astounding vocal range took centre stage in one of the most thrilling performances in this flagship festival.

Ranging from high registers to astonishing flourishes, via bursts of harmonious virtuosity that had the audience on the edges of their seats, Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti performed pieces including Puccini’s O mio babbino caro, and Caccini’s famous Ave Maria, which amply demonstrated why this celebrated artist is one of the best sopranos of the century.

In the vibrant Mediterranean setting of one of Majorca’s best-conserved beaches, Formentor Sunset Classics draws great and distinguished figures as well as internationally well-known up-and-coming artists to the gardens of the Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel. A treat for the senses, which are not only spellbound by these incomparable lyrical performances, but also delighted by the views of the turquoise sea and the sunset over the Sierra de Tramuntana.

Marta Moll (piano) and Damian Martínez (cello), two of the most promising instrumentalists of their generation, created a programme based on cello classics for a performance that, according to Damian, “travelled through the musical imagery of popular Spanish music” and included pieces such as the Arpeggione Sonata (by F. Schubert) and Adagio und allegro (by R. Schumann), in addition to works by two great Spanish composers: Gaspar Cassadó and Ernesto Halffter. The event concluded with the energetic and festive touch of the Grand Tango by the Argentinian Astor Piazzolla.

Before the concert, the pianist, who was thrilled to be on the stage overlooking the sea that has witnessed concerts and recitals by the greatest geniuses of classical music, stated that “forming part of the Formentor Sunset Classics festival is a privilege because of the opportunity to appear on the same poster as renowned artists and also because of the history surrounding the hotel that has always been linked to artistic creations.” Damian highlighted the concert’s natural surroundings and that “making music in a place like this is truly special. The Mediterranean Sea and this gorgeous vegetation make this a unique setting. In addition, the silence allows us to really listen to nature and escape from the bustle we are accustomed to.”

TWO OF THE BEST LYRICS OPERA VOICES COME TOGETHER TO INAUGURATE THE FIFTH SEASON OF THE FORMENTOR SUNSET CLASSICS

The Formentor Sunset Classics stage on the shore of the Mediterranean has raised its curtains to welcome the fifth edition. For the event, two of the biggest names from the world of classical music inaugurated a season filled with magic: the tenor Roberto Alagna and the acclaimed soprano Aleksandra Kurzak. The two artists melded with the sea breeze to perform opera arias and duets bursting with lyricism and energy at Majorca’s most iconic hotel: Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel.

Upon arriving at the hotel, the tenor met with the media before the concert and confessed, “For me, performing on Formentor’s spectacular stage, surrounded by the sea and the sun, is like singing in paradise.” The soprano Aleksandra Kurzak added, “Formentor Sunset Classics is a gorgeous festival in an incredible setting, so we are ecstatic to have the opportunity to inaugurate this edition.”

The select audience witnessed how the characters transformed into their roles from one aria and duet to the next in performances that were nearly operatic. It was a journey through an array of famous styles and stories of lyric opera as well as of popular Hispanic songs. During the unique performance, nature put the singers to the test by transforming the Mediterranean wind into a dramatic element of the stage design and giving the voices and the characters a titanic level of beauty and interpretive strength. Aleksandra Kurzak seemed to fly with her powerful voice and flowing dress whilst Roberto skilfully took on great musical risks thanks to his extensive experience.

The two stars were joined by the harmony of their voices to once again give life to the magic of Formentor Sunset Classics with a majestic concert to inaugurate a memorable edition.

AINHOA ARTETA, A PRESTIGIOUS VOCAL POWERHOUSE ON THE STAGE

THE VOICE OF AINHOA ARTETA MARKED THE LAST CONCERT OF THE SEASON

The most charismatic soprano of her generation and an international reference in the world of lyric art was the star of the last concert of the 2016 season. At an exclusive meeting with the media the day before, the singer stated, “As artists, we must listen to our voice and pay attention to its preferences. My voice enjoys Puccini. He is a composer with which my voice feels comfortable and is able to grow exponentially, without any obligations”.

The moving concert consisted of two parts and began with a spectacular Ainhoa Arteta as Georges Bizet’s Carmen. Her vehement expressiveness further highlighted her voice, which delved into the most heart-rending feelings of the programme, with pieces composed by Bizet, Puccini and Mascagni.

Sola, perduta, abbandonata was the dramatic and intense 45-minute opera finale on the natural stage of Formentor, for which the artist only had the following praise, “I strongly support organising concerts in natural settings like this one. The location is magnificent, and the festival is nothing less than exquisite”.

The second part, which began with tribute to Enrique Granados for the 100-year anniversary of his death, centred on Zarzuela pieces and included magical touches such as Out of Africa by John Barry.

A passionate and dramatic Ainhoa Arteta won over the audience as she conveyed all her love for music in the purest manner, leaving everyone breathless.

The perfect ending for the audience, which gave her a standing ovation, consisted of two masterly encores of O Mio Babbino Caro and The Mission. Bravo!

HILARY HAHN, ONE OF THE BEST VIOLINISTS OF ALL TIME

THREE GRAMMYS LIT UP THE BAY OF FORMENTOR

Hilary Hahn, named one of the best violinists of all time by the experts at Classic FM, swept away the Formentor Sunset Classics audience at her only concert in Spain on 1 September.

That same day, the three-time Grammy Award winner attended a press conference in which she stated, “Since the age of 13, I have been playing a violin made by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume. It has grown with me, it is the instrument with which I have played all my albums and I feel very connected to it”. Hahn, who has recorded 15 albums, also told the media, “I think it will be an amazing experience for the audience because this stage is like being in a concert surrounded by nature. It is an honour to be at this gorgeous location”.

Arturo Reverter, a music critic for La Razón and Scherzo, wrote, “From the start of the first piece, the soft and expressive sound of the instrument flowed over graceful spirals”. She proceeded to move the audience, accompanied by a first-rate orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic conducted by Jirí Belohlávek, as she played the Suite for String Orchestra by Leos Janacek, the Concerto No. 5 by Mozart, and the Czech Suite in D Major, Op. 39 by Dvorák.

The concert, which also included encores, ended with a Gigue by Bach and the Pizzicato Polka by Strauss, which was performed solely by the orchestra. The breathtaking finale of this marvellous experience was streamed live via the hotel’s social media profiles. It was an innovative way of sharing a portion of the concert that took place during a spectacular sunset at Formentor with the followers of the Festival and the artist.

QUIROGA QUARTET, THE EMOTION AND SENSIBILITY OF STRINGS

A VIBRANTSTRINGQUARTET

The Quiroga Quartet offered the second concert of the 2016 Formentor Sunset Classics Festival. The members of the Quartet, Helena Poggio (cello), JosepPuchades (viola), Cibrán Sierra (violin) and AitorHevia (violin), gave a masterly performance of the Haydn string quartet Op.20 No. 4 and the Brahms string quartet Op. 51 No. 1.

Here is what they said about their choice of programme: "We consider Haydn to be the father of the quartet. He wrote many quartets in the course of his life, and experimented with creating truly entertaining musical universes, full of humour, ingenuity, boldness and audacity, which brought a new model into being."

Regarding their second choice, Helena said: "Brahms wrote three quartets, all of them absolute jewels; at Formentor Sunset Classics we played the first of them, a harmonically sophisticated work of stunning formal and structural perfection. It is music that is eternal, marvellous… universal."

Speaking before the concert, the musicians were also keen to highlight that "This is the best venue where we have ever played, an idyllic setting in which time seems to stop. The combination of such a spectacular natural area with a musical programme of such quality makes this an incomparable event." Their participation in this Festival season, like that of the young pianist Juan Pérez Floristán on 16 July, was made possible by the partnership agreement between the Fundación Albéniz and the Barceló Hotel Group

At the end of the concert we were able to enjoy an encore rooted in the ideal of the link between traditional music and more elaborate music. A surprising piece that the Quartet themselves arranged for strings, inspired by the work they are doing for their forthcoming album, which they are planning to launch in the spring of 2017.

JUAN PÉREZ FLORISTÁN, AN EXPLOSION OF TALENT

MIGHT AND PASSION AT THE PIANO

The young genius of the piano, Juan Pérez Floristán, winner of the First Prize and Gold Medal Audience Award at the XVIII “Paloma O’Shea” Santander International Piano Competition (2015), opened the fourth season of the Formentor Sunset Classics classical music festival on Saturday, 16 July, with a moving piano recital that made an impact on everyone there.

Pérez Floristán, happy and excited to be taking the stage at Formentor, which has already hosted concerts and recitals given by the greatest geniuses of classical music, such as the Chinese pianist Lang Lang, said: “In a natural setting such as Barceló Formentor, playing in the open air facing the sea is magnificent, the ultimate experience. When you bring Hilary Hahn, Ainhoa Arteta and the Cuarteto Quiroga, together in the same programme, the result is an explosion of talent, an inspiration for any artist. What more could you ask for?”.

Music flows through his veins, for his own mother, María Floristán, was his mentor for more than ten years. His father, the conductor Juan Luis Pérez, has also contributed his own grain of splendour to this young man, who took the Majorcan stage to dazzle the audience at the first concert of the season, in which he participated thanks to the partnership agreement between the Fundación Albéniz and the Barceló Hotel Group that gives support to talented young musicians.

Before his intimate recital, those attending were able to enjoy a Master Class on the programme given by the Festival's Artistic Director, Felipe Aguirre, which prepared the audience to appreciate the pieces played by the artists with greater intensity.

“Beethoven moves me to discover things. He is a revolutionary, so brilliant and groundbreaking that you always find in his creations things that continue to surprise you." Regarding the Liszt Sonata, which the audience was profoundly moved to hear played with such passion, Pérez Floristán confessed, "it is an odyssey, 30 minutes followed by fireworks, a vital experience. One is exhausted by the end, empty but comforted."

This year's big innovation is the major online dimension the Festival has gained, both through its website www.formentorsunsetclassics.com, and its social media profiles on Facebook, and Instagram, thanks to which fans of the hotel can now enjoy the Festival's latest news as well as exclusive new content that includes streamed extracts from the concerts for anyone wishing to enjoy the Mediterranean's most enchanting moments.

THOMAS HAMPSON AN EXCEPTIONAL BARITONE

EXQUISITE PERFORMANCE BY BARITONE THOMAS HAMPSON

Considered one of the most acclaimed baritones of our day for his on-stage charisma and his vocal and artistic qualities, Thomas Hampson closed the 2015 edition on the 8th of October, offering a performance which shone with all his vocal strength, capturing the audience from the very beginning to the end.

Hampson, who is of American origin, performs regularly in the principal opera houses of the United States and Europe, where he has been enjoying a great international career as an opera singer and recording artist, besides taking an active interest in research, education and propagation of music. His expansive discography includes various honours and awards of international prestige: one Grammy Award, five Edison Awards and Grand Prix du Disque.

He has never been to Majorca before and he said, during a meeting with the media the day before his concert, that Formentor is a place with "a magical setting and a wonderful atmosphere," and he joked, emphasizing that his biggest challenge would be to stay "focused on his voice and not on the landscape surrounding this natural stage."

The baritone wanted to get involved in drawing up the programme of his concert, together with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Felipe Aguirre, featuring accessible and entertaining pieces which "tell stories." His selection included works by Mozart, Verdi, Massenet, Lehár and Bernstein, along with some extracts from Cole Porter's musicals. It was a complete programme beginning with a solemn introduction of the Salzburg genius, gradually progressing through the history of music towards some of the standard repertoires of American popular music from the last century, each piece of which made the audience vibrate.

In appreciation of the warm ovation he received upon finishing, Hampson gave an exquisite encore performing the famous song "Night and Day" by Cole Porter. This unique moment concluded the third edition of a festival that is accumulating successes and unforgettable experiences year after year.

ONE OF SPAIN’S MOST ACCLAIMED VIOLINISTS

A HIGH-PROFILE VIOLIN MOVED THE AUDIENCE IN FORMENTOR

This 3rd edition will be remembered for the moving violin and piano recital by two increasingly high-profile artists in what was another bold decision by Barceló Formentor to combine maturity and youth in classical music. Ana María Valderrama, acknowledged as one of Spain’s best violinists and accompanied by pianist Luis del Valle, interpreted works by Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Sarasate, Dubois and Chopin.

Both artists were immensely grateful for having been given the opportunity to participate in this initiative by Grupo Barceló, in conjunction with the Fundación Albéniz and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (the alma mater of both musicians and where they met before becoming a happily married couple). Valderrama said, "it is an honour to play in festivals with top-class artists such as Maestro Daniel Barenboim, or Dame Kiri Te Kanawa", and "…initiatives such as the ones that this hotel organises are essential for us, particularly in the social situation in which we find ourselves ".

The actual recital took place at sunset in the exclusive gardens of the Barceló Formentor Hotel. The audience was able to enjoy a passionate performance from both artists and the inspiring relationship between the two instruments. They seemed so intertwined, they appeared to “touch the essence and the heart of the music”, to use the words of Luis del Valle before the concert, when he was describing what they seek and what motivates them when they play together.

The new stage, especially designed for these new encounters with talented young musicians, seats somewhat fewer people and has a more intimate design. In an idyllic setting beside the Mediterranean Sea, it undoubtedly managed to connect the public to the music right from the outset.

A brilliant performance that has allowed the Formentor Sunset Classics, to combine, the first time, a programme that features both established musicians and major new promises.

PIANO RECITAL BY LANG LANG

MAGICAL PIANO RECITAL BY LANG LANG UNDER THE PINE TREES OF FORMENTOR

The world’s leading exponent of classical piano inaugurated the 3rd edition of the festival and rekindled the magic for which this place is renowned. The notes of his music wafted through the pine trees that grow beside the sea here in Formentor, while the public bathed in the rays of the setting sun.

410 highly privileged patrons, the record attendance to date, were able to enjoy the only recital that the pianist will offer in Spain this year. Undoubtedly the leading emblem of China’s increasingly important role in classical music, Lang Lang exhibited his mastery in a two-hour programme that began with Tchaikovsky’s "The Seasons" (one for each month of the year). In his usual relaxed style, his arms moving up and down with his head held back, his gaze took in the surrounding landscape during the more romantic passages. He continued with Bach’s "Italian Concerto", vigorously underscoring the piece’s playful counterpoint. Following the intermission, as night began to fall, Lang Lang concluded his performance with an extraordinary rendition, full of introspection and sensitivity, of the "Four Scherzos" by Chopin, one of his favourite composers.

During the press conference prior to the concert, Lang Lang envisaged that he would end up completely imbued in the music: "I am convinced that I will play in a different way here in the Formentor Sunset Classics, thanks to the inspiration of this place...it is even more spectacular than I had expected". True to his word, he immersed himself in his interpretation and upheld another of the principles that he had mentioned during his presentation: "A good pianist is a good communicator".

To end his performance, and shortly before treating the audience to a brief encore, Lang Lang thanked the public for their applause and for the opportunity to perform in the gardens of the Barceló Formentor hotel, with its idyllic scenario and weather which, to use his own words, "is like being in heaven ".

DANIEL BARENBOIM

DANIEL BARENBOIM POURS HIS SOUL INTO HIS PIANO

The II Edition of the Formentor Sunset Classics in 2014 got under way with an experience that will be well night unrepeatable. In what was his only piano recital in Spain this year, Daniel Barenboim performed three sonatas that made up a programme dedicated entirely to Schubert (No. 4 in A Minor, D537; No.13 in A Major, D664 and No. 17 in D Major, "Gasteiner", D850), pieces that Barenboim himself said were "veritable treasures". The maestro then responded to the warmth and quality of the public, by regaling them with an interpretation of Chopin in what was a clear homage to Majorca, given his connections to the island.

The two pieces were his Nocturne, and, after the final applause, a masterful interpretation of his Ballad No.1, a most unusual choice for an encore due to its technical complexity, clearly denoting how deeply involved Daniel Barenboim was in the recital. During his earlier press conference, he had already made clear how much he was looking forward to the concert,

especially on account of the comments he had heard from his predecessor in the first edition of the Formentor Sunset Classics: "My friend Zubin Mehta told me that it is a magnificent place".

Thanks to the stage, which was set up beside the sea, in the gardens of the Barceló Formentor and which featured a transparent background, the setting sun provided a spectacular backdrop in what is one of Majorca's most superb natural settings.

Thanks to Maestro Daniel Barenboim, this new success has proven yet again that the Formentor Sunset Classics are the very epicentre of music performed by the world's leading figures. These musical events continue to provide highly exclusive encounters of a truly special nature, and to guarantee the highest quality in the Mediterranean.

CONCERT BY DAME KIRI TE KANAWA, A SUPREME VOICE

DAME KIRI TE KANAWA CLOSES THE 2ND EDITION WITH A TRIUMPHANT CONCERT

Thrilling, extraordinary, unrepeatable. The performance by Kiri Te Kanawa was all these and more. The leading exponent of glamour in an opera singer, Dame Kiri filled the Barceló Formentor with her supreme voice.

A performance that was nothing if not exclusive, as nowadays, following her retirement from the opera in 2004, Te Kanawa appears in barely ten concerts each year. Together with the stage and the natural setting beside the sea, this fact was one of the main attractions for the audience of 350 who were privileged to feel the magic of her voice.

Together with the Orquesta Simfònica de les Illes Balears, directed by Robin Stapleton, the soprano from New Zealand seduced her audience by interpreting works by one of her favourite composers, Mozart.

She also transformed pieces by Joseph Canteloube and Giacomo Puccini, among others, into balsam for the senses.

A quite exclusive concert therefore, during which those present were able to enjoy one of the great voices in a very different and undoubtedly much more intimate and special way: in the open air, beside the sea, in the gardens of the hotel, with the sun setting on the horizon.

For the 2015 edition, Formentor Sunset Classics is joining forces with the prestigious Fundación Albéniz to further strengthen the standing of an initiative that has few if any precedents of a similar nature.

BARCELÓ FORMENTOR VIBRATES WITH THE MAGIC OF MAESTRO ZUBIN MEHTA

300 fortunate people enjoyed an unrepeatable event: a concert directed by one of the most important batons in the world, that filled the bay of Formentor with the music of Beethoven.

Spectacular, unique, unrepeatable, emotional. The Formentor Sunset Classics cultural event at the Barceló Formentor was all this and more: Maestro Zubin Mehta directed the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra (Florence) in a sensational concert overlooking the sea.

The Indian conductor (Bombay, 1936), delighted the 300 guests who filled the venue with a concert that honoured the name of the initiative. Starting at sunset, it comprised two of Ludwig van Beethoven's most fundamental pieces: the Symphony nº6 in F major, op. 68 "Pastoral" and the Symphony nº3 in E flat major, op. 55 "Eroica".

The hotel most involved with the art world was converted in this way into an amplifier of the music that enveloped this privileged enclave in the north of Majorca.

The son of Mehli Mehta (founder of the Symphonic Orchestra of Bombay), Zubin Mehta's career as conductor has been meteoric, and he has taken over the baton from numerous conductors in the most prestigious orchestras. His great versatility breathes life into any repertoire, from the classics to the most intricate contemporary scores, and his spectacular, deeply personal style of conducting, makes him one of the favourite conductors of music lovers everywhere.

And so, the success of the "Zubin Mehta in Mallorca evening" consolidated the success of the Formentor Sunset Classics cultural initiative which started on the 22nd of June with "The Russian Epic", a tribute to classical Russia directed by one of the most highly acclaimed Russian conductors, and head of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, maestro Mikhail Tatarnikov.

RUSSIAN EPIC INTERPRETED BY MIKHAIL TATARNIKOV

The principal Director of St. Petersburg's prestigious Mikhailovsky Theatre, Maestro Mikhail Tatarnikov, considered to be one of the leading figures in Russian classical music, inaugurated the Formentor Sunset Classics cultural project with a concert entitled The Russian Epic. This event took place on June 22nd 2013 in the gardens of the hotel, with the Mediterranean sea providing an exceptional backdrop.

During the press conference, Tatarnikov admitted that interpreting Alexander Nevsky "was something highly significant" for him, on account of the impact that this movie had on him as a child in the former Soviet Union. "Even before I began to study music I already knew both the movie and the music of Prokofiev really well", he added.

A total of 80 musicians were on stage for this performance, including the mezzo-soprano Irina Shishkova, the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears "Ciutat de Palma" and the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, directed by Larisa Gergieva.

The film "Alexander Nevsky" by Pier Alli was screened, and the soundtrack, which was composed by Sergei Prokofiev, was conducted and interpreted by Maestro Mikhail Tatarnikov.

The concert lasted an hour, and featured two different parts. It began with a performance of Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" and then, following a brief interlude, the evening's main attraction, the soundtrack that Prokofiev composed for the film "Alexander Nevsky"

That this first edition proved to be a memorable occasion can be seen from the headlines of the reviews that appeared in the press in the days following the event: "An unforgettable event in the gardens of the Barceló Formentor Hotel" Fuera de Serie; "A splendid homage to Classical Russia" Expansión, "Fantastic, almost idyllic" RNE; "An incomparable setting" COPE; "A unique concert" Diario de Mallorca, and "Reviving the cultural dream" El Mundo.
