I travel often so I have an opinion of what a decent resort should offer . The pros here: bar service at your pool chairs if you tip your server. They will take care of you. Great beach. Beautiful pools, Lovely grounds. Nice rooms. La Fuente for dinner was good. Room service is decent. The cons: terrible buffet food, not enough lunch options, the staff does everything they can to avoid looking at you, acknowledging you, impossible to get a drink when you sit down to eat, even just water. Not nearly enough pool chairs, and even if you go out at 7am to reserve, chances are someone will move your stuff and take your chair, which is likely a cultural difference between guests, but frustrating regardless-- they just need more chairs. The seafood restaurant was inedible (Coral Seafood) and the atmosphere is like a school cafeteria. Check in... rooms are never ready and the process is soooo slow. Huge language barrier.. nothing is easy to get across. I have stayed at Barcelo Maya in Playa Del Carmen and it is spectacular, I was very disappointed this is not nearly the case here. If you are going to PC, go to Dreams, Hard Rock, Paradisus or Cap Cana. Don't spend your hard earned money here where it's not valued and you don't get what you deserve for the cost.

“Don't forget to tip the room cleaners if you want your room cleaned”

I have never really been to an all inclusive like this. I have cruised many times. I apparently had no clue that you are supposed to leave a daily tip for the housekeeping staff if you want your room cleaned and your fridge restocked. On a cruise we always give the cleaning staff a tip on the last day.- As well the cruise makes it clear that tips are all included. While we were here we were awoken the first morning by the cleaning lady Since we had done nothing but sleep in our room we told her that we didn't need cleaning that day. On the second day our room was cleaned at 6 pm even though we had our "please clean and tidy" sign on all day. After that our room was only cleaned once. We would come to the room at night and the cleaners hadn't been there. So we asked for clean towels and a few pop as we were ready for bed. When we left I left $40 in tips for the cleaning staff but by then I guess it was too late. When I came home I mentioned to my brother- who had recommended this place- how disappointing it was that they never cleaned our room and even called once at 8 pm to ask us if we wanted our room cleaned or just wanted towels. Since our kids were already in bed I asked for clean towels. My brother said that the only way to get your room cleaned is to "Leave a fiver" on the bed every day. Otherwise the resort is very nice. It was annoying that we were never unable to find a chair by the pool. Apparently you have to get up early to reserve a spot. Anyway the resort is very beautiful and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

    “one week stay at BBP”

Grounds : the property is huge and beautifully landscaped.- a pleasure to walk around in all weather as the main route is a covered walkway. Staff: always a smile, always a good morning but English can be an issue if you aren't dealing with the front desk or wait staff. Meals: the four restaurants we visited were excellent with superb wait staff and the meals tasted well and were lovingly presented . One major aggrevation is in the buffet section. If you aren't there near the start time, the tables aren't cleaned up but left as is after use. The result is you enter the restaurant with one half of the tables left empty and out of use . I twice had to sit at a used table and swipe a napkin and utensils and water. Hint: get your reservations immediately after registering in, as the specialized restaurants are quickly filled, at guest services. The one restaurant with the most beautiful setting Hoyo 19 (golf restaurant) had very poor service. Orders were often missing parts of the order, and after requesting the missing items, those missing items were promptly forgotten. Menus are rarely given without begging for them. My wife was served a drink with the bottle cap at the bottom of the glass with the ice. Some wait staff were very conscientous while others looked bored and disinterested. Room cleaning staff: promptly arriving to clean the room first thing was much appreciated. English was a minor concern if you needed something. Beach: a lovely beach perfect for long walks but the daily piles of seaweed , some days little, some days more so required the beach to be cleaned most days (if not all) - not a problem. Front desk: excellent, efficient, and the bags were both picked up and delivered to and from the room promptly We had a lovely holiday experience at this hotel and would return in the future. Thus endith this story. Dave H

    “A nice family resort”

My wife, son, mother-in-law and I were upgraded to the Place Deluxe family section of the resort. We were given a room with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom which was extremely nice. There were two double beds on one side and a single king size bed on the other. The room had some electrical issues when we arrived as the there was no power in the room. Maintenance came and did something to the lights in the bathroom and flipped the breaker and everything worked fine from then on out. The beds were nice and comfortable and the A/C worked well and kept the room cool. The minibar was always refilled with water, pop, juice, beer and snacks. You get two balconies, one faced the golf course, the other faced the garden and had a hot tub. We were a short walk to the little kids water play area, which our son loved. Lots of chairs and it was never really busy. There is also a bar there where you could get drinks. I am not sure if it was a full bar but they had beer on tap. There is a trolley that will stop by but I am not sure if there was a schedule for when it stopped so we just walked everywhere and it became a little exhausting after five days in the sun. The family area is a little walk to the main part of the resort where the restaurants, pools and beach are. I am starting to think the food at any of the resort in D.R. is just not that good. I didn't really care for anything at the buffets besides the churros and passion fruit. Everything else was just ok or sub-par, even at the restaurants. You have to make reservations at the restaurants days in advance and they always say they are fully booked. Maybe paying the concierge would open up some restaurants, but when even we tried to make reservations nothing was available or they would be available at 5pm and 10pm. We ate lunch a couple times in the sports bar where you can get burgers and fries and hot dogs. The drinks were ok, they were mostly no name brands. They have Dominican rum such as Brugal and Ron Barceló but you have to ask for it, the beer is Presidente. The pool is gigantic and finding a chair is kind of hard. There was no problem finding room in the pool because it is so huge. Only one swim up bar and it was always packed and we had to wait forever to get drinks there. The beach is nice and big and the water is calm, a little seaweed floating around and the water kind of stinks. There are plenty beach chairs since the resort is so huge, we never had a problem finding one, I don't remember seeing any vendors on the beach either. They have a bowling alley, but they charge to play. There are a few stores on site that have souvenirs, snacks, etc. We went in there quite a lot to kill time, but they don't take cash, it is charged to the room. We didn't stay out late enough to watch any of the shows, sitting in the sun all day with the occasional drink in you hand wears you out. If you like massive resorts, stay here. The service was ok and they expect you to speak Spanish. We will go back if we get a change and if the price is right.
