“Great vacation, improvements needed to make the resort better”

My two friends and I stayed here from March 19-26, 2017. We upgraded to the Premium level from our superior room, which allowed us a Club Premium suite. Check-in was average, not very fast but they were very busy. The suite itself was okay, we were in building 1 which allegedly was updated but there were still cosmetic things that did not seem upgraded (chipped tiles, loud air conditioning unit) but it was clean and comfortable. There was an odd musty smell that never went away. One day the air conditioning broke, and the entire room was covered in condensation, but after a call to the front desk it was fixed after a few hours. The perks to upgrading to the Premium level: this allowed us unlimited reservations to the ala carte restaurants. This was great, because the buffet itself was lacking. The three of us are not picky eaters, and we could rarely find anything that was appetizing or recognizable. One morning we arrived at the same time we had been the previous few morning and half of the food trays were empty and remained that way for the duration of our breakfast. Luckily our reservations at the restaurants made up for the sub-standard buffet. The French, Dominican, Italian and Japanese restaurants were delicious. The Dominican was by far our favorite, we even ate there twice. The service was the best in that restaurant than in the others. The Premium upgrade also allowed us late check-out, and private check-out so we didn't have to deal with the front desk. You also got free Wi-Fi with the Premium upgrade. The wi-fi is not great, you have to log into it each time you look at your phone, and it's not very strong. There is a Premium Club room in building three, they have cocktails/snacks available there and staff members there to help you so you don't have to deal with the front desk with questions. Now the service.... overall, it was not the best. The major downfall seemed to be lack of staff everywhere, bartending, cocktail waitresses, and especially in the buffet. We did not get served coffee or water any day at the buffet, and usually had to go scrounging for our own silverware. However, in the Marien lobby bar, Martina was an outstanding waitress and remembered us all week. There is no poolside cocktail service either, which we found a bit disappointing for a resort of this size. They were often out of towels, and we had to leave a note for housekeeping everyday to give us more, otherwise we heard a lot of other guests complaining that they had no fresh towels and no washcloths at all. The pool towels also run out quickly, so you will have to make several trips back to the hut to check in and see if they got more. However, since we were Premiums upgraded, maid service brought us fresh pool towels everyday. We also left notes for housekeeping (with a tip) everyday to stock extra water and beer in the mini bar, because they only give you two bottles of water and two mini-cans of beer. We stayed by the quiet pool, which was very nice, chairs always available, and there is a bar very close to that pool. The "loud" pool seemed chaotic, with music blasting, all chairs full, loud spring-breakers, and at least 6 deep by the pool bar. We did not spend any time there. The beach is gorgeous, by far the best part of this resort. Clean, lots of chairs available. The workers at the spa harass you constantly when you walk by them, they finally got the hint after we blatantly started ignoring them after about 4 days. There is quite a language barrier as well if you are not bi-lingual, the majority of the staff did not speak English. We read about this beforehand, and the notes we left for housekeeping were in Spanish, so they always knew what we needed. Tipping goes far. I know a lot of people have the attitude that because it's an all-inclusive resort, than you don't have to tip. Don't be cheap, these people do work hard and despite the shortcomings of the resort itself, there were many hard working staff members that really do make the effort to serve you well. Reward their good service. If you're the person who doesn't tip, than you're not going to get the good service. Simple as that. The shows in the theater were lackluster at best. The performers do seem to be working hard and giving it good effort, but the quality of the shows was not the best. The band was very good, but the sound system was horrible and drowned out the vocals. We couldn't even understand the emcees talking before the show started. Overall, this resort could be so much better, with some major room improvements, hiring/training of more staff, and upgrading the quality of the buffet food. We would have rated this at a 2, but decided on a 3 because there were a few staff members that did go above and beyond, and we did enjoy the restaurants.

    “Nice Stay”

Perfectly located on the beach.Went during spring break but the crowd wasn't too crazy. The Hibachi and Dominican restaurant was DELISH! Just make sure you make your reservations because it gets packed. The buffet was just OK but its perfect when you need to eat and missed your dinner reservations. Nice price for a 4day trip for 2 all inclusive. Rooms are pretty basic nothing amazing. And its difficult to get small wash cloths.

    “Completely disappointed ”

I've been 4 days in this property and after the second day I wanted to leave. Check in was slow and no information about the hotel facilities and activities. The hotel is asking for a shouted remodelling and needs more continuos maintenance. The room was low standard for a 4* hotel. Floor, walls, bathroom, amenities looks very old and cheap. The entry door to the room was very flimsy and with trouble pose to close. Everyday after the room was clean we had to chase after the cleaning lady to ask for fresh towel. Mini bar was restocked only once. Service in average was very poor and lacking, not only for the language barrier as some reviews have mentioned, because I am a native Spanish speaker and felt ignored most of time. -Alcohol and food variety wasn't so good. -Beach, pool and water Park are the best of the hotel. I've been in other resorts in Punta Cana and in the north of Dominican Republic and this is by far the worst I've been in. I would not recommend this resort and if you're looking for a relaxing vacation this in not the place for you.

    “Was good, but not great”

This was our first family trip to Punta Cana, 2 children and 2 adults. Bars/Pools - There is a good amount of bars, you're never too far from one, which is great. The service at the bar isn't very quick unless they see a tip in your hands while waiting. They also for some reason tend to want to serve the young kids before anyone else. Other than that, the drinks were good, great selection, and we didn't find them to be watered down at all. The pools were also in good shape, and the kids really enjoyed the kids pool. Sometimes it was hard to find a seat around any of the pools, and can definitely be a little frustrating. Towel Service - The towel service was our biggest complaint, and was absolutely horrible. We checked in on Sunday, and weren't able to get towels until Wednesday. I approached the towel bar 2 or 3 times a day, and was always given the same answer, "come back in 10 or 20 minutes", and upon returning, would be told the same thing again. Check-in & Rooms - We arrived a little early, around 11:30am. We tried to check in around 3pm, and was told to wait until 4. At 4pm our rooms still wasn't ready, so they gave us a different room. I'm not sure what our original room had in store for us, but the room we got was okay. It was in decent shape, definitely needed some upgrading but we could live with it. The minibar was restocked after the first day, and then never again which was ridiculous. We found the room to be cleaned around noon everyday, but towels were never restocked till about 6pm, and instead of 4 for our family, we would only get 1 or sometimes 2. Kid's Club - The kids club was awesome, our kids absolutely loved it. We didn't force them to go, but they wanted to every morning. Kimberly and Carmen interacted great with the kids, and made the kids feel very welcome. Food - We found the buffet to be great as well, they always had a good selection of food, fruit, and desserts. The only downfall we found was trying to get coffee in the morning was a real pain. I think out of the 7 days we were there, we got coffee twice. Also, half the time we would have to try and get our own cutlery from other tables as the tables were always cleaned, but rarely stocked again. We tried the pizza restaurant, Italian restaurant, and a surf and turf restaurant by the pool and everything was pretty good, food and service was good as well. Noise - The noise at night and throughout the night was completely ridiculous. You see security guards all over the resort throughout the day, but at night when the young kids are partying, they're nowhere to be found. Not one single night went by without screaming, stumbling, swearing, and yelling in the hallways. And it would go on for hours. Ourselves and our kids got woken up at 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, etc, and this was every single night! It didn't stop, I don't understand how there was nothing done about it. WiFi / Casino - Now WiFi wasn't extremely important to us, as it's a family vacation and the last thing we want is to bury our heads in our phones or tablets. That being said, it's nice to be able to send an occasional message or picture to someone back home or just to check in on family, or to be able to check-in to your flight online! It was disappointing that they wanted to charge outrageous prices for WiFi. We found out the casino has free WiFi every night from 6pm to 7pm. I was able to connect to it once to send a message to the person who was staying in our house while we were away. The rest of the week, the cashier guy at the casino kept saying "Oh I'm waiting for someone to come fix it" and it wouldn't work. Also, don't fall for the $5 coupon they give you for the casino. I took it to the casino, and the cashier guy told me he'll be with me in 15 minutes, he wanted to help the others first because I only had a coupon. Finally he called me over and said the only way he will honor it, is if I give him another $5. Also, I wouldn't recommend going off the resort property. My wife and I wanted to walk along the beach, and literally within a few feet of passing our resort sign, we had guys from the resort beside us trying to sell us on a free day pass at their resort. Very pushy people and hard to get away from at times. It's quite a shame they do that, it would be nice just to go for a walk along the beach. Our overall impression was alright, most of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the resort itself was nice, but it's a real bummer that they advertise themselves as a family friendly resort, but really seem to cater to the young drunk college kids. I'm not sure if we would return to this resort or not, the negatives tend to outweigh the positives in my opinion.
