    “Occidental Punta Cana first club package ”

    Our first day there the room flooded the water was coming up from the floor drain the entire 1st floor flooded. When I went to complain and get another room change it took them 1hr to do it. They keep doing other things instead of taking care of all the ppl rooms that had been flooded. So after we got our new room it was Balcony level the furniture was broken such as the chairs. They was not enough towels for the both of us two us they give you 1 face towel and 1 dry towel. You have to RSVP at the Restaurants but the buffet doesn't require that. Breakfast and lunch is good at the buffet but dinner is nasty. The food at the restaurant is very good. The drinks at the bar are ok. They where a little to sweet for me. My husband And I paid for 1st club service but didn't get the benefits of it. We where suppose to have private check in and out. Private buffet and pool. The staff members that I met was very nice. Diaz, Espaovsa(kids club),Eugene and Francioe (at the pool bar) where very nice and made our stay feel much more better. Checked on us all the time and helped us in anyway possible. Espaovsa at kids club is very good with the kids she really knows how to make the kids have fun. Overall the place is about a 3 out 5. Lastly It was very clean.

    “Absolutely gorgeous resort and grounds, but lacking service”

    The resort itself and grounds are absolutely gorgeous! It is very well groomed and clean. Palm trees are everywhere. The beach is also fantastic and probably the best beach front if you walk down the strip and check out other resorts. I will review a few key points that will be helpful in making a decision to stay here or not! Check-in- slow and poor customer service from the start. We had booked through Air Transat 3 couples to be in the upgraded rooms next to each other. 2 couples were given upgraded room 1 was not, and they were placed on a different floor. Also, they gave us rooms with 2 double beds and we had to plead with the man to give us one queen or king. We ended up all getting the upgraded room and on the same floor but not next to each other. Also, he grunted and rolled his eyes multiple times when we requested the bed changes and they were only able to accommodate one couple. The rooms- very nice and clean. No concerns with the rooms and for the small amount of time you spend in them they were more than enough. Water pressure in the shower was good too. Bars/alcoholic beverages- very average. Often pina colodas were watery, tasted different every time you got one depending who made it. There was a big language barrier with a lot of staff and they seemed not to know how to make many common drinks. The beginning of the week they told me "no mojitos too much work" which I was disappointed because they are my absolute favorite drink- half way through the week I noticed people drinking them so I started ordering again... lets just say they left something to be desired. They used a pre-mixed jug and added mint leaves and ice. We always had to go to the bar because if the 6 of us sat by the time we got served and they brought the drinks back we were waiting 30 minutes+ The service is very slow everywhere you go even for water- we would often be finished our lunch before they brought water at the buffet. And back to alcohol none is served in the buffet for breakfast, so no breakfast mimosas. Pools- good and plenty. Only complaint is the only swim up bar was surrounded by a waterfall fountain so if you wanted a drink you had to get your face/hair soaked or get out of the pool and go up the stairs to the bar.There were always plenty of beach chairs and we went during spring break season. Buffet- breakfast was great everyday and very consistent. The guys at the omelette bar work very hard and make a tasty omelette. Lunch was poor with the exact same food options every day. I also found dinner nothing special, but there was enough variety to find something. Be careful with the fried chicken we kept going back to try it because the crispy coating was delicious but it was pink/red/raw in the middle every time! Restaurants- delicious with the exception of the italian restaurant (bad experience maybe?) they were also inconsistent. At the steakhouse 3/6 of us got an appetizer and then they brought the meals with no explanation to why they didn't get one or an apology. There is 1 waiter for the entire restaurant and then other that help with beverages, clearing plates, etc. and it makes the experience quite disconnected. For some reason the italian had NO tomato sauce the night we went. My friend ordered lasagna and it was topped with cream sauce and they didn't inform us. My canneloni that was supposed to have spinach and ricotta cheese was literally just rolled up dried spinach. The mexican, asian, and seafood were fanstastic! Also, the pizzeria and the taco-ria were the best! We got a pizza as a late afternoon snack almost daily and a late night snack (open until 2-3am) made fresh for you. We loved that we always had those two as an option if we were still hungry or didn't like the buffet. Entertainment/Nightlife- the disco was a lot of fun and they played great music- mostly top hits but some spanish as well. All of the nightly shows that we watched were amazing too. I was very impressed with the circus theme show- they have some talented staff! Definitely worth seeing if you can catch them Staff- VERY inconsistent. We met some truly amazing staff that wanted you to have the best time, were attentive, and did not rush you. We asked about peanut oil in the asian food because my friend had an allergy and they had trouble understanding what we were asking but the waiter asked 5 different staff and they each came to us to try to understand. Unfortunately more often than not, staff were in a huge rush and didn't even say hello, there was a language barrier which didn't help. They would take our drink orders at the buffet and we would be finished our food before it came. We wait 30 mins in the lobby bar for 1 round of pina colodas, once at breakfast my boyfriend and I shared a water glass and utensils because we knew it would take them too long to bring it. One thing we did notice towards the end of the week was if we put out a couple dollars or a 5$ bill showing we were going to tip them, the service was a bit quicker. This was my first time in dominican so I don't know if it was a resort specific thing but VERY different than mexico where they want to give you excellent customer service so that you tip. Here seemed if you tipped they would improve service but otherwise there basically was none. If I go back to dominican I wouldn't stay here again unless I got an amazing deal- I think overall it was a good price for what we got and the grounds/beach/palm trees made up for a lot. But if you like to have customer service on your vacation this may not be the place for you. I would say spend the extra 500 and go to a luxury resort. ALSO, wherever you stay in dominican do the excursion to Saona Island. It is breathtaking.

    “Rubbish Service”

    The resort is nice but the service is hopeless. We were given terrible rooms for first night as they had messed up our booking (we had reserved superior deluxe rooms) - the rooms had a broken shower (not fixed even after reporting it), were dirty, no towels, broken furniture and in the worst block. We could not shower for a day and half!! They changed us to newer rooms which were better. Guest services were hostile, rude and could not care less - they often walked off and looked at other things while dealing with us or simply walked away for no reason. When they finally agreed to give us "compensation", they made us sign a 2 page legal waiver - all for one hour free wifi per day. By the way wifi is $15 per day per device!!! Towels were frequently forgotten when rooms cleaned, it was very difficult to get beach towels as they never had enough and generally be aware that most of the staff do not speak English so if that is your first language and you don't speak Spanish - you will struggle. Some of the staff tried their best but it was clear the hotel is badly run, the staff have little or no training and guest services is designed to fob you off rather than deal with any issues. They will even refuse to let you see the manager! From the previous reviews, the hotel says each time that they will take the comments on board and do something but I guarantee you that this is just lip service and nothing will change as my comments are not the first ones to make these points. The animation team is lively but there is very little information on what is available - even the timetable given to us did not have days of the week on it so we had to guess which day the activities were happening. Same with trying to find where the gym is (hidden behind the spa) etc...... Asking the concierge about the local buses was also difficult as his English was poor - he sent unto the beach for a water taxi....... This is a real shame that the hotel is so badly run by the Barcelo Group who took it over as the location is great and the beach is lovely. Choose another hotel rather than this one. I am not sure that any other hotel could give worse service than this.

    “Great resort, pathetic service. They actually admitted they were short staffed but did not offer any compensation.”

    The need to get rid of the entire staff. Absolutely horrible. We waited 2 hours for bed sheets for our child and had to call down 3 times. I asked for a razor and still have not received it. The service in the restaurants were the worst I have ever seen. The buffet never had plates. Getting a refill on anything was virtually impossible. It's unfortunate because it's a beautiful place.

    “Great stay”

    We were charged $10.00 for misplaced room key upon check out. We should have been told upon arrival. Need to improve the food in the Beach Rest. Most of the Staff members were very friendly and helpful.
