    “Beautiful”

    We very much enjoyed a two night stay at the Formentor as part of a longer trip to Mallorca. With impressive historical antecedents, the hotel is something of a garden paradise. Having visited for a recce as part of a trip to Cap de Formentor last year, it is clear that the owners are continuing to invest in the hotel. Our welcome - with a refreshing drink and cooling towel was much appreciated after the cross island drive. Dinner in El Pi restaurant was beautiful and well worth the expense. The large gardens are beautifully maintained. Breakfast (a good selection of hot foods, freshly cooked omelettes, cheese, hams, fruits, cereals, pastries and juices) was taken on the terrace and was lovely. White linen table cloths and a cold glass of cava added to a wonderful start to the day. Our sea view room had a large and comfortable bed. Whilst not every single aspect of the decor was on-point, this didn't detract from our enjoyment. The beach was lovely - we enjoyed both lounging by the sand and time spend canoeing. Likewise, the pool area is idyllic. Staff all exceptionally friendly. Exceeded our expectations.

    “Many happy returns!”

    Having first come to the Formentor nearly 40 years ago my wife and I confidently arranged to come again in June. As usual we reserved a room with sea view and terrace. There can be no more stunning views to wake up to than that one. Barcelo should be congratulated on not trying to modernise the hotel in accordance with "group policy and image". This often ruins good hotels which are bought by big groups. It is a great pleasure to be greeted by staff members who have been there for many years. Particularly worth mentioning are the restaurant by the pool, the bar on the main terrace and the buffet dinner which has an amazing selection of choices to suit all tastes and appetites.. A unique feature is the music; Alex the very accomplished pianist has an amazing repertoire and on Sunday evening a brilliant guitarist played both classical and more modern selections. We hope to return in September..

    “HEAVEN ON EARTH!”

    Back to Paradise again, perfection as last October - the only real complaint was that we were there during last week's heat-wave and they didn't move the palm trees to give us continuous shade beside the pool! The reception area has been re-vamped to remove clutter, but they should have kept a clock! New carpets on the landings - views differ on whether an improvement. I've read the complaints, and have to say they are totally different from the experiences of my friend and myself. I have never been to a better hotel for service. I appreciate, though, that if you don't book a sea-view room you may be disappointed, but the website makes clear the difference. It's also important to remember that this hotel is nearly 90 years old, and many choose to go because of the traditional atmosphere. The hotel was fully-booked, but the service remained exceptionally good. On top of this, the beds are wonderful, and the very necessary air-con top notch! My only minor grumble is that there should be rails beside the steps down to the pool. Rumour has it that the ownership of the hotel changed recently - we hope this does not affect the quality in any way.

    “Nice location, but not as it looks on the photos”

    Small rooms that were amazing 30 years ago. cheap floors and cheap furniture. No private beach, and many many old people. We had a broken shower that was not fixed. Shame, as the place could be great - had they cared more for it. Super overpriced too!!

    “Disappointment in Paradise”

    We try to check in at 2pm & wait 10mins to find out our room isn't ready. Travelling since 3am and less than impressed, this is meant to be a 'Royal Hideaway'. We were allocated another room, view - bulky grey fire escape. We wait 30mins still no bags so I went and complained and we were moved to another room. That night we were so tired we ordered room service and an adaptor. After over an hour of it not coming my partner rang and they said it was on its way. 30 minutes later still no arrival and then a knock at the door. They had sent our dinner to the wrong room despite me confirming on the phone that it was for ours. The next evening at dinner at the pool bar my partner's rabbit arrived cold. I then ate my dinner alone and once I'd been finished a while my boyfriend ate his. Without the vegetables we'd asked for twice and with the side of fries also now cold. We turned to get help and found out that the 'sub-director' was in fact standing at the back of the restaurant. We tried to get attention of the staff which we could not and were also ignored by him. To finish the night off we were brought the wrong bill and charged for the whole meal including the water that they removed from the table even though we weren't finished. I reported the appalling stay so far to the night manager and went to bed. The next day cocktails arrived wrongly because 'the girl on the bar doesn't normally work there' unacceptable if you are still going to charge me 14 euros. I then try to reserve a table in the buffet for dinner and the maître d dismisses me rudely and informs I'll only be given a table when I arrive for dinner. We later arrive, no suitable table available - surprise. During dinner later, the sub-director stood in the restaurant. Final day at lunch we are spoken to by one of the managers and inform that we will discuss our stay once we check out later this evening. At this point she informs that someone had been trying to find us for 2 days...odd. The sub-director knew where we were and we are staying in one of their hotel rooms after all. We were given a free late check out and the bad dinner removed from our bill. Not really sufficient compensation for the stressful break in such a highly recommended hotel. Made worse by the fact that it wasn't fixed immediately. The isolation means they can get away with charging extortionate prices for something average in service and quality. The best thing - the view and some staff members - Paola, Rosa, Maria Jose x
