    “Reaching for four stars”

    We stayed in a comfortable, good-sized room with a balcony and pool view. The bathroom decor was a bit jaded and dark but generally kept clean. At check- in we were given no information about the hotel other than the times of meals. We were sent off to find our room on the second floor without any offer of assistance with luggage( I am 70 and my wife is 66). After several failed attempts to get the room safe to work I returned to reception to then be told that a key is required before the printed instructions on the safe will work. We were not charged for the use of the safe which I believe may have been an oversight as I understand there is normally a €4 per day charge. The next morning on arrival at the pool I was advised by pool attendant that if I required towels a €10 deposit had to be paid and once again I had to return to reception to pay the deposit. We were booked in on a half board basis and while breakfasts generally offered good choice, dinners were in the main disappointing. The dinner buffet on paper looked good but the general quality of the food presented was not particularly great. For example, Spain is a country well known for its hams and cheeses but when any cold meats or cheeses were on offer they were in the main poor in quality and limited in variety. The chef's pasta, a regular on the dinner menu, was stodgy and the accompanying sauce lacking in any real flavour. The fruit available on the other hand was excellent. There appeared to be a shortage of waiters in the dining room at times making it difficult to order wine or water. To be fair many guests were on all inclusive deals and could serve their own wine. The outdoor pool is very good but the hotel needs to put a stop to guests listening to music without headphones as there is a great peaceful and relaxed atmosphere around the pool. Sun loungers are readily available. Other facilities included a fitness suite but unfortunately there is a charge of €10 per hour to make use of this. Similarly the indoor pool and the wellness area attracts an hourly charge. Our stay was enjoyable overall but I think this Barcelo hotel needs to improve in a number of areas before it can truly merit a four star rating.

    “Fabulous April break”

    I would like to thank the staff in the restaurant and the waiting stuff who coped so fantastically with my really bad allergy to gluten. They went out of their way to ensure that I had safe and tasty food to eat. I can't thank them enough and would like to commend Sara in particular who went above and beyond to help me. To any coeliacs out there who may be concerned about about travelling I can't recommend this hotel strongly enough.

    “restful holiday”

    This was my second visit to the hotel and I love the area especially at this time of year. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much bother. I would definitely visit again. A restful and revitalising experience. You can do as much or as little as you want.

    “Wonderful location, Amazing bird wacthing!”

    Wow, what a week! We had an amazing holiday bird watching with Manu and his assistant Maru....thank you both! So pleased we stayed in this lovely hotel. Wonderful location, right on the beach. Friendly staff and lovely food too! Thank you we will be back!

    “One of our best holidays.”

    Where do I start, the hotel is beautiful, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food in the evening is delicious and very plentiful with a buffet to suit all tastes, breakfast is buffet style also and was a great start to the day. The pool is great with games poolside most days, the beach is a short stroll through a gate on the hotel grounds, there is a supermarket just a short walk from the hotel, plenty of places around the area for snacks and drinks if you fancy a ramble. I must say it was a great stay, thanks go to our Travel Dept., guide Alex great job my friend looking forward to our next visit to Barcelo Punta Umbria Mar, thanks again to management and staff, see you next year, our kindest regards, Gerry and Mary.
