“Mostly Excellent BUT a Few Niggles”

Hope you’re sitting comfortably as this is a long one… We stayed for a week in March for our wedding anniversary. Check in was nice and easy and were glad to be given 2 room keys straight away which was a good start, and I'll add here that the key cards worked fine for our whole stay with no technical issues at all. The room on the first floor was pool facing and we it looked spotless and new (which obviously it was - we specifically chose the hotel due to having been newly built in 2016). Not sure about the bright orange curtains. The balcony facing the pool had a table and 2 chairs. The storage space for clothing was limited. If we had been staying for 2 weeks, we would have even more disappointed - we like to dress up every evening so had outfits for each night of our stay - requesting extra hangers was easy enough and requesting an iron board was very easy too and they provided a fabulous iron too. A bottle of chilled cava was waiting for us with a small fruit platter and a card from the hotel wishing us a happy anniversary which was a nice gesture. We stuck the cava in the fridge and it was still there unopened on our last day. There were 2 bottles of water in the fridge and we were able to bring back extra bottles from the bar whenever we asked during our stay. The toiletries provided were a bit lacking. I had contacted the hotel in advance to check that they provided conditioner (other hotels we've been to have shampoo but no conditioner) and I was assured that there would be conditioner. So I was a bit puzzled that there were 2 shower gels and 2 shampoos but no conditioner. It was an oversight as it was provided within minutes of calling reception but it's something you don't expect to have to call reception about when you've asked about it in advance of your trip. The shower in the bathroom is the BEST we've experienced on holiday BY FAR! We enjoyed every day (and several times twice) the most fabulous power shower one could wish for. Really! Extremely highly recommended! The free wifi is only seems to work in your room and near reception. It doesn't seem to work anywhere else in the hotel grounds. Several other people mentioned this to us during our stay too. Now to the facilities... We were all inclusive and had to wear the obligatory band to prove this. No problem with that as there were people in the hotel who were half board too. Breakfast and dinner are in the buffet restaurant which we thought had a lot of character and had a good variety of dishes available throughout our stay. Saying that, many of the hot dishes were not hot but often just lukewarm and we couldn’t understand why they couldn’t get this right. This was the same whether you went to eat at the beginning of the shift, in the middle or towards the end. We had read about this before going and thought it couldn’t be true but, sadly, this was the case at every meal. At breakfast, you help yourself to everything including tea, coffee, etc. As I’m not a tea or coffee drinker so I can’t personally comment but hubby didn’t enjoy a single cup of coffee during the week we were there. The milk was just odd and made the coffee almost unpleasant in taste for him. As with most other European hotels we’ve stayed in, the toaster was just rubbish. You have to put your bread through 3 or 4 times to get it anywhere near toast-like, and I didn’t want to mess around with the settings on the machines. I gave up on the 2nd or 3rd day as the rest of my breakfast would get cold(er) if you had already filled your plate or (and this was quite weird), the toast got cold by the time you walked the short distance to your table! In the evenings you are served drinks at your table, even if you just want water and this is a bit of a hassle as sometimes you have to wait ages for someone to come and take your drinks order and at least 3 evenings we were halfway through our meal before our drinks were brought to us. I would also mention here that the glasses available for water or fruit juice at breakfast are really small so you have to keep going back to get more. We were told NOT to bring a water bottle to our table by a waiter one morning, which is fair enough, but we were getting sick of having to keep getting up 3 or 4 times during breakfast to top up our water (yes, we do drink a lot of water)! We also thought it would have been helpful to have clear signage for the yoghurts to mention which ones were fat free as this was not indicated anywhere that we could tell. Most of the restaurant staff were very friendly and approachable and the chefs we met during the week were lovely too, although we found Laura (who may be a supervisor) to be quite stern and we didn’t warm to her at all. The lovely Susana in the restaurant made the best impression on us. NB: we thought the breakfast times were quite generous from 7.30 to 10.30 but check when you’re going as times may differ in different seasons. Dinner was from 6.30 to 9.30. We didn’t use the gym during our stay, we had had good intentions but it looked small and pokey and not very welcoming. The spa also looked small and uninviting so we didn’t even enquire about prices. The entertainment team of Beatrice and Petra were just adorable. These two young ladies work their socks off day in day off to make guests feel welcome and included. They seemed to work REALLY long shifts as they’re around from mid morning till 11pm every night which I thought was quite unfair, especially when there are just 2 of them. They were not intrusive to those who showed no interest in joining in activities but they were very warm and welcoming to those who joined in and we really have to give huge credit to them for being such bundles of fun and energy! Well done girls! The pool bar is open though to 7pm (note – there was no bar open between 7 and 8pm during our stay – first time we’ve experienced this at an all inclusive hotel). Lunch is available at the pool bar on a help yourself basis from the fridge or buffet area – sandwiches, fruit bowls, burgers, hot dogs, pastries – with a microwave and self-service grill available. Also soft drinks, beer and cava available here to serve yourself, which was handy for when the staff were very busy. Here you get to meet the wonderful Noelia; she is a superstar waitress! Not forgetting to mention the fabulous Driss (so charming and friendly) and Rafa, Rene and Jorge. At the pool bar you can also order a freshly cooked meal from an a la carte menu. We thought this was a fabulous offering and my husband worked his way through quite a few dishes on the menu. Good quality food and very well dished up. Full marks for quality and service at the pool bar. The pool itself was average. The same old issue with your typical selfish holiday makers reserving their sun beds with towels from early morning and not turning up to use them till later in the day and nothing was done about it from what I could see. Not an issue for me personally as tend not to be out sub bathing till later in the afternoon but often noticed people walking around trying the pool several to find 2 sun beds next to each other that hadn’t been reserved with a towel. To get a towel you pay a 10 Euro deposit which is returned when you leave. Now to talk about the evening bar! This opens from 8 til midnight and most of the time we were there it was manned by Guillermo (apologies if spelt incorrectly). This guy is a little dynamo! So very friendly, polite and efficient. A real credit to the hotel! There is a good range of drinks available on the all inclusive, better than some hotels where you only get local spirits, and also a good variety of cocktails were available. The bar is rather bleak in lighting in the evenings and there is some form of entertainment on even evening. Till 9pm there’s something for the children which is ok if you don’t mind kiddie music blaring at you whilst you’re having a drink and then some grown up entertainment from 9.30 onwards with a quiz or some other internal entertainment from 9 to 9.30 by the animation team, such as quizzes or bingo. Every night we were there they had outside entertainers come in and do a show, some of it was good/ok (e.g. Abba Mania), some of it was dire (e.g. a German couple on our last night there – no charisma or stage presence at all and we felt so sorry for them as people just openly got up and left the bar during their show)! As this is the only bar open in the evening we really wished that there was another bar available to spend time just relaxing and having a chat rather than having this forced entertainment every evening till 10.30 or 11 and most of the time it was too chilly to sit outside the bar and drink where most of the smokers congregated to get away from the noisy entertainment. The (sandy) beach is a short walk away and minutes from the resort is a main shopping strip with a plethora of perfumeries (huge discounts available if you can bargain), bars, restaurants, clothing stores, etc. A supermarket is a minute’s walk away for your every day items and tobacco and drinks, etc. The hotel also organises walking tours of the area and to the Sand Dunes which are about 3km away (the animation team organise these walks). So, generally, it was a good experience at the resort and we were still deciding between giving a 4 or 5 star review here until our last day. We reported the evening before we left when we were going to dinner that the a/c wasn’t working in our room. I went back to the room later to grab something and it was clear someone had been up to the room to check the a/c as they had left their key in the electric slot. Nothing was done for the rest of the evening and then someone turns up at the room at 11am on the day we’re leaving and due to check out at midday, who was in the room fixing the a/c for 50 minutes! When I called reception to say we would be a bit late checking out as we were unable to shower and get ready with the maintenance guy there who had turned off the electrics, we were told quite bluntly that we had to leave by 12.15 at the latest or we would be charged for over-staying. I was rather annoyed about this especially when the receptionist said he would get someone else to call back. I jumped in the shower and left hubby to deal with them when they called back – whoever it was that called back was not helpful at all saying we should have reported the a/c issue earlier to get it fixed (hello, we reported it the evening before and were out of the room the whole evening so they could have sorted it then). We were then begrudgingly told that we could check out at 1pm but not to make it a minute later. We were out of the room by 12.30 as they were being so weird about it all and when we handed our keys back we were told that we could store our luggage in the luggage room and could keep our all inclusive bands on till we left as if they were doing us a HUGE favour! This really put a sour taste on our last experience at the resort. We holiday 3 times a year and have never stayed at an all inclusive hotel which DIDN’T have luggage storage facilities or where you COULDN’T use the all inclusive till you left for the airport. Overall we enjoyed our stay but the last experience regarding checkout nearly made me give the hotel 3 stars overall! They need to work on keeping the hot food warmer in the restaurant, sort out the bar situation and make their minds up about the late checkout situation. We had asked for late checkout the day before we left and would have been happy to pay for a later checkout but we were told we couldn’t as people would be waiting to check into the room. Yet when they took an hour of our time on the last day sorting out the a/c they were asking us to pay 20 Euro to stay for an extra hour which we had no intention of paying as they should have just sent the maintenance guy after we checked out!

“Just go and see for yourself, its brilliant”

Amazing hotel, the food is so good you won't be able to stop eating all week and staff are absolutely amazing. Also, the spa treatments here are of a very high standard and pretty much everything you could want from a holiday is covered. The only thing I would say that if you want to be very close to the beach then it is about a 5/10minute walk through the touristy bit of town.

    “Great value and excellent location”

A new hotel in a very good central Corralejo location, only a short walk to the beaches and the town centre. We were all-inclusive which worked really well but with a few niggles stopping a 5* review. Reception staff are friendly helpful and efficient. The reserved bus to the dunes is recommended. We had a late departure and the provision of a room to shower and change was really welcome. Wifi is free and worked well although no reception at all in the restaurant/dungeon area. Our room was ground floor opening to the pool area and not being directly in the sun kept the room cool. Cleaning was very good. Overall the room was well equipped apart from a lack of drawers for clothes storage. Room safe is charged for even on all inclusive - why? The aircon was quiet and efficient. Beds very comfortable. Most meals were in the main restaurant and generally good and varied. Only criticism was that hot meals should be hot and available on hot plates. Far too much ended up lukewarm only. Restaurant staff were very good. The pool bar was good for the few days it was open before refurbishment. This was noisy at times but not all day and ALL dust was contained to their work area so no inconvenience there. While shut, the service was transferred to the kids pool bar and worked ok. Daytime activities were organised by Beatrix who was brilliant. The downstairs 'Theatre Bar' was simply awful - terrible drains smell and a bad location. The evening 'entertainment' was well suited to it. Why is there no outdoor bar/cafe style facility at all? The dungeon was the only place to get a drink after 7 pm. The attached Bistro is not part of the hotel and everything is chargeable. This was not made clear. All inclusive should mean just that. A room safe is €3 per day, the spa facilities (sauna, steam room etc) are €10 per visit, ice creams at the pool bar are free unless you want to upgrade to a Magnum - €2.40 extra!!! Overall, we would recommend it and would return but please sort out a few issues first.

    “My Weeks Stay”

Fab hotel, we got upgraded to a suite which consisted of a room/bathroom & a lounge. Massive bed, large wardrobe but no drawers only shelves which could've done with at lease one more shelf, fantastic shower & hairdryer. Towels changed daily, tea/coffee facilities, chiller for drinks & a safe which is payable. The only downside of the hotel was there is no bar/café to just sit and have a drink & even the pool bar only has table & chairs inside none outside. I think this is why they provide the kettle & fridge. Wifi throughout which works all the time, plenty of sunbeds. Also have 2 USB's in the socket so no need to take a USB plug with you. " Pools one adult & one children's Entertainment in the club for adults was good with a Rock Band, Jazz Band , Opera singer with musicians who was fantastic & Abba tribute we went out the rest of the week. Food was reasonable could always find something to eat. but reception lacks warmth as it's very modern but only tub chairs to sit on...no settees! Location brilliant for bars & beach. etc Seven Pints Bar was a big pub with entertainment.
