    “Superb Trip”

    We are just back from a 2 week stay in the Barcelo and we can only say WOW! What a fantastic holiday and trip we had. This is the fifth time we have been back to hotel over the last number of years but it is the first time we have stared for 2 weeks. We went with our son (10) and our daughter (7) and they had a ball. We were in a superior room with a beautiful view of the cold pool and sea but spent very little time in our room as we spent most of our time in the hotel grounds or by the pool. On the first day our son went straight to the maxi club and was introduced to the legend that is ‘Martin’ – I can honestly say Martin is the best hotel entertainer we have ever experienced or met in any resort, not just the Barcelo. Our son hit it off with Martin straight away as he is so nice and we can only say this made all of our holiday. Martin is such a fun, wonderful, caring and kind person which we also both had great fun with over the 2 weeks and he is worth his weight in gold, an absolute gent! He is a friend now for life  Not forgetting Tommy either who was brilliant in both the maxi and mini club and our kids also loved! Tina who was wonderful in the mini club with our daughter and also Ivo who was a brilliant entertainer for the adult activities and a super footballer! The food had a good variety in the restaurant but when staying for 2 weeks you can get bored of the selections so we did drop out a few nights to a couple of local restaurants for food. The Fado Rock restaurant was our favourite and the steak on the stone was gorgeous. The beach has been improved since the last time we were there and it’s great fun with the kids trying to catch the small fish who swim close to the shore. On one of the days my wife’s phone went missing in the hotel and luckily enough we were able to track it (find my iphone app) to the laundry room at the back of the hotel. We informed the guest manager who was so helpful and she organised 4- 5 staff to root through huge buckets and bundles of laundry for a whole morning and eventually found my wifes phone which had gotten mixed up in the bed sheets when the cleaning staff were cleaning the room, we were so blessed and so appreciative of the efforts the staff went to the find the phone. The waiting and bar staff have also hugely improved since the last time we were there, previously they weren’t the most friendly staff but this time they were so kind and very welcoming any time we were in the restaurants or bars. We will definitely be back at some stage and would highly recommend this hotel for families.

    “Amazing Stay”

    What a great hotel! The rooms were fantastic, big and light, comfy bed and spotless bathroom. We had a ground floor room and it had a lovely terrace to sit out on with its own sunbeds, perfect. The food was superb every day and plenty of space in the restaurant. Wine service was slow but it wasn't an issue. The pools were lovely and the view across towards the beach was great. There was building work going on at the beach which was noisy but not every day and we warned about this in advance. The pool bar was self service with a great range of food and drink, or you could go to the bar for a cocktail. I wouldn't hesitate to book a Barceló again in the future.

    “Good location”

    Hotel was in a good location close to the restaurants, shops, beach and harbour. We had a superior room, second floor overlooking the pool, the bed was huge and comfy, my daughter who is 12, (very big for her age) had a sofa bed, this was fine for just her but if you have older/bigger children it would not have been big enough for 2, got pool towels, robes and slippers for free, also get access to the spa, however no good as you have to be 16 to enter and couldn't leave my daughter alone, so didn't use. Room was an ok size didn't spend much time in it, would have been a struggle with 4. Pools were all saltwater, one in front of the snack bar is heated the other one I could not even get in it was that cold! Plenty of sun beds but if you want a certain spot then you have to be there at 7.30am. Entertainment team work hard but I've seen a lot better, the entertainment is quite low key, especially in the day, we watched a couple of the shows put on by the entertainment team, ok if you like watching them mime to songs, apart from one of them on whites night who did sing live, might have been ok if the sound system didn't let them down. We went all inclusive, they have one restaurant and one snack bar. The restaurant we went for breakfast twice and couldn't stomach it again, there is enough choice just not much quality food, same in the evening, at dinner we went to the snack bar, this is self service and although not much choice was far better than the restaurant, make your own toasties every dinner! The beach outside the hotel is very large but the shell,stone, whatever they have laid on it is terrible, walk further along to outside the Sheraton hotel there is proper sand and the sea is quite calm with coves, if you can get in the sea it's very cold! Look for the wild chipmunks along the coastal path in the rocks, you can feed them they will come to you for food. I wouldn't return to fuerteventura personally it's very quite, not much happening and the weather was not great windy cloudy and cold until dinner everyday, sat on a sun bed wrapped up with towels is not my idea of a holiday in the sun, If you do want to come to fuerteventura then this hotel is ideal for a base.

    “The worst hotel & holiday of our lives”

    I don't like writing negative review about any business establishment, but I am making this an exception, because this place is awful. We are day 2 into our Thomson 7 days family break and every bone in my body regret this holiday and in particular this hotel. The staff are nasty, the hotel is nasty, dirty and very over used, grubby and crawling with cats. To call this a 4 star hotel is a complete fabrication and a joke. So we arrived yesterday on a half board holiday, the children were really excited, so got changed and ran down to the ramped poolside with their father, they told me they were going to check out the place. I on the other hand attempted to unpack our stuff with the plan to join them later. The first thing I noticed was that our standard room with sea view as promised on the Thomson's website was substitute for a view of kids play area nowhere near the sea. The room was dirty and grubby all over, the thick limescale inside the toilet bowel was enough to make you physically sick. There are broken floor tiles all over the hotel, and I recall while waiting to check my family in that the hotel smell of sweat and mould. This was no 4 star accommodation, it would be lucky to get a 3 star. I was disappointed, which is not a good start to any holiday as the reason for the booking was the pretty pictures on the Thomson's website & the trip-advisor rating, I felt conned. We have been to a Barcelo complex before south of Fuerteventura & had a lovely time, this also was a factor in our booking. I went to reception to complain, I was promised that a cleaner would be sent to the room and that I had to show them proof that I had booked a sea view or otherwise pay additional for a sea view. I tried calling Thomson's in the UK and had to give up after being left holding for such a ling time. It was while on the phone with Thomson's the cleaner came into the room & ushered me out so that she can clean. I was on the phone holding as I went to meet my family by the poolside. When I got there, my husband had got food for the kids from the buffet bar nearby. I told him that I wasn't sure that lunch was included in our package, but he said that he had spoken to a member of staff who told him that it was fine. So my daughter had a ham/cheese sandwich, son had some pasta, sausage and chips combination which was pretty awful to look at. I was afraid for him as he had very delicate stomach. My husband had wondered off to see where he could get drinks for the kids. I then decided to grab myself something from the buffet counter. I hadn't sat down when a waiter steamed over to our table, grabbed my plate, my son's plate with his fork & knife in hand & chips half way to his mouth and my daughter's empty plate screaming at me that he had told my husband that these were not included and steamed away with our plates & food back to the kitchen. My young son was in dismay and said how rude the waiter was. I was in total shock, ashamed, embarrass and couldn't speak, this was done in front of other quests. It was so disrespectful that it left me breathless. We decided to go to the beach afterwards as the pool area was ramped. The beach beside the hotel which looked picturesque in the Thomson's website is actually really awful, the worst I have ever been on, awful. The kids attempted to build a sand castle and there was no actually sand just gravel. After a couple of hours we decided to return to the hotel. While in our room and getting ready for dinner, the phone in the room rang & it was the hotel Guest relation officer. I took the call from my husband as I was the lead on the booking. She began by saying she had left messages & we did not return her call, I had not seen her message (turns out it was paper pushed through underneath the door, which we did not observed as we walked in). She began saying that an incident was reported to her and that she had contacted Thomson. The assumption from what she was telling me was that we purposely knew that lunch was not included in our package & tried to get away with having a free lunch. This is after paying near to £2500 for a 7 days holiday. She said that the waiter & a bar staff told her that they had warned myself & husband several times that lunch was not included. The only interaction I had with any waiting staff was when they grabbed my plate, screamed at me & steamed off. So I felt the need to correct her, it was obvious that she did not believe us but believe the story of the waiter & the bar staff. I asked if there was CCTV camera that can be reviewed & she then soften her accusing tone. She then says that all 3 meals will be charged to our room, I told her that we did not come to her hotel for a free lunch & that I was more than capable of paying for lunch for my family. She said she will need to speak further to the waiter & bar staff. I reiterate again that nobody spoke to me except for the incident described and that it should be easy to erase the confusion of the staff as I was an ethnic woman & my husband was white. It should be easier for them to be able to described who they spoke to. The call was ended with her saying she would investigate & come back. I simply was not bothered but wished we could be somewhere else far away from this horrid place. We went to dinner and realised that we have to pay for water with our meal, these water bottles are small so you have no choice but to order multiple. At this stage I have no idea how much this cost, we were told that they will be charged to our room. Day 2: We quickly realised that we needed to grab a sun lunger after breakfast so we did, this place is ramped and feel so unhealthy. We were by the pool all day. After 5pm we went up to get dressed for dinner. Upon arriving at our room, there was a note through the door, which we now recognise from Hotel Guest relation asking us to call but left no number. We got dressed and went down for dinner, there was a different person at the entrance today, I assumed he is the restaurant manager. He asked for our room number and I gave it to him, then he said he needed to see confirmation, some sort of piece of paper with the room number on it. I fail to understand what he was talking about and looked at him questionably, certainly we were not asked for additional proof on day 1 at dinner and showed him our room key. He then said we will need to provide proof tomorrow. Upon completion of our meal, we walked back to the entrance with our water order form. I had assumed this would be charged to the room and strangely enough I asked the lady who now appears beside the restaurant manager, I asked what we were to do with the paper. She said we have to pay the bill now, my husband said he had already paid & whether we needed to pay again? He then took the paper from me. The lady who now turned out to be the Guest Relation then appeared surprised (not convinced at all that was genuine) saying "oh you are in room xxxx, I have been trying to contact you". So I asked what was the outcome of her investigation. She then said as we said we don't want any disruption to our holiday (we never said that) lets just wipe the slate clean & start again. No word of apology, what caused me then to be so infuriated was that she said the waiter & the bar staff maintained that they had spoken to both of us and warned us- this was a complete lie. This hotel & its staff are truly deplorable, please avoid this place at all cost and please don't fall for the airbrush pictures on the Thomson's website. I feel my family have been victimised and disrespected, it is really beyond comprehension to think that in 2017, these things continue to happen, I really cant wait to go home.

    “Family holiday”

    Our family group of twelve have enjoyed a fabulous week at this hotel. It's a great place to suite all ages, there's always something happening somewhere as well as lots of peace and quiet too if you prefer it. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Good facilities. Great restaurant. I'd definitely stay here again.
