    “Excellent hotel”

    The hotel has raised it's standards yet again; this was our 10th holiday at this hotel. We have always been impressed by the high standards of every aspect of the hotel, fully deserving of the 4-star status. The variety of food at the buffet was superb and the salad bar in particular was outstanding. The availability of bottles of wine in the restaurant was a vast improvement on the previous 'on-tap' wines. All the staff were most attentive and helpful, with nothing seeming too difficult for them. Overall, a great hotel and fully recommended!

    “Wonderful three days”

    Everything was perfect from arrival to departure. The staff were friendly, the room large and spotless. The availability of water each day, coffee and teas was a great feature. I would stay here again without hesitation.

    “Very dissapointed not to Barcelo standards and we know Barcelo standards”

    Check check check what you are booking you do not get everything you book. We booked this hotel last October on the Barceló web site and upgraded to superior rooms as the additional extras were what we were looking for. We chose this hotel because it had a SPA this is one of our holiday must haves, the web site also boasted 2 al a carte restaurants. Well that’s what the website boasted when we booked. Our room upgrade to superior had the advantage of free use of the SPA and choice of buffet restaurant and al a carte restaurant. Making our way to the spa on day 2 we found it CLOSED empty and covered in a thick coating of dust, inquiring at reception we were told that the spa was closed for renovation. We were never informed at time of booking or anytime later that the SPA would be closed, to date 9 Feb there is still no reference to its closure on the web site. Reception said as compensation we could use the sister hotel Jandia Mar SPA for 1 hour but any other usages would cost us 10 euros per hour each, we did take up the offer of the free hour but were very disappointed the SPA only consisted of a sauna and a heated indoor pool. Looking around the hotel we found one al a carte restaurant CLOSED the second one only available to two times upgraded clients . So no spa and no al a carte as promised. I urge you to take screen shots of all the facilities listed that have relevance to your holiday needs you will then have evidence of what you have booked. Arriving back home and checking for evidence lo and behold the web site has completely changed and the hotel has dropped BARCELO for OCCIDENTAl. Best likes:- friendly staff, in restaurant and reception, heated pool lots of sun beds, mini fridge, kettle. English TV channels Least likes:- Cold food ( all 14 days ) undercooked/overcooked food, waiting in queues for food to be cooked. Poor quality food.( although you will never be hungry salad and bread ok ) Overall cleanliness poor ( see photos ) Rooms a little on the dark side and cold during the night.

    “Recommandeble hotel”

    nice hotel, good food, very nice view at the ocean from the hotel. The staff was very helpfull. near the hotel nice shops, and you should only walk about half an hour then the city with many shops, restaurants and caffes

    “Excellent hotel”

    We stayed here for one week in February with our two children, ages 7 and 4. The hotel is set in a steep hill overlooking the beach and consists of a main hotel building (mostly premium guests) and 9 smaller separate stand alone blocks with 30 or 40 rooms in each (mostly families stay here). The hotel grounds are very pleasant and well maintained with shrub borders, pools, an outdoor theatre, football pitch, tennis court, and children's play area. The hotel reception, bars, restaurant and entertainment are all in the main hotel building. The outdoor heated pool was a big hit for the children and easily warm enough to swim and lounge in, after you get over the initial chill feeling. Many of the hotel activities organised by animacion staff happened at the swimming pool or were arranged here before moving to another location. Our children particularly liked the archery, football and mini-golf all organised and supervised by animacion staff. The kids club was a separate facility that was mostly indoors (drawing and playing with blocks etc) and was mainly used by children aged 3 and under from what I could tell. The animacion staff also organised activities for adults and were very friendly but not intrusive. The mini-disco at 8pm every night was also a big hit for us, although it only seemed to last for 20 or 30 minutes - they could extend this or introduce some games for the children after the disco. We generally found the buffet food to be pleasant, but a bit repetitive after a few days. The snack bar seemed to serve fast food with burgers and chips etc. The bars were a bit crowded and pressured as other reviewers have mentioned. Our room was on the ground floor in block 6, a five minute hilly walk from the main restaurant etc. We had a few issues with cockroaches but nothing too serious, apart from that the room was clean, quiet and spacious. The reception was always busy any time that I visited and you had to queue for some time before getting any service. All in all we found Jandia Playa to be very pleasant for a young family. We also visited the sister hotel next door (Jandia Mar) to use the 18 hole mini-golf facility there (for a small charge). This hotel also looked pleasant enough and had a similar layout to Jandia Playa in many respects. It was unfortunate that Jandia Playa guests had to pay 5 euro per head to dine at Jandia Mar, given that both hotels are part of the same group. This would have been one way to get over the repetitive feel of the buffet food at Jandia Playa.
