Occidental Aurelia reviewed by wenche48 on . 3 Nights in Rome - absolutely wonderful. The accommodation was lovely, nice high ceilings, loads of room. The room was very clean and tidy, although after the first night no further tea/coffee was supplied. The towels for some reason... Rating: 4

    “Worst experience ever!”

    I never wanted to leave a bad review on anything, like ever, but this hotel has simply left me speechless, in a bad way. Ever since the first night they gave us something bad, i wasn't to angry about it but what followed simply disgusted me. On our first night/morning we got woken up by the maids at 6-7 in the morning, they were YELLING on the hallway, we didn't say anything. Then, it happened every single morning, they were laughing, probably gossiping, i don't know since i don't speak italian. One night we went at the hotel bar/restaurant and asked for a tiramisu and panna cotta. They only brought the panna cotta, which was totally something else than we expected, since in the menu said that it was going to have a wild berry topping and it was plain chocolate, something completely else. The wifi does not work, we called at the reception for it to be repaired, nothing happened. The AC was going completely crazy, it was either too hot or either too damn cold, and since you couldn't control it from the room it was horrible, no one likes to call in the middle of the night for the AC to be turned off. On our last night other tourists were talking very loudly in the hallway, no one made anything about it. The hotel is situated in a very suspicious part of the town, where apparently the streets are never being cleaned. If you lose the bus you might as well go back in the room and take a nap, cause the next one will come in about 30-40 mins. Even after all of this, we were not about to leave a bad review, but our check out went incredibly bad! We checked in on august 3rd and checked out on august 10th, on our first day we were charged or the money was put on hold for the whole journey. Now when we wanted to checkout they asked for the whole amount once again, not assuring me that i ll get the initial money back. The lady on booking was very helpful and she assured me that if i pay one more time, i ll get the initial amount one more time. When we told them that we don't have that much money anymore to pay once more, they arrogantly asked like "what, you don't have more money on your card?", like really? Why would I come with 500€ more money since i only booked a room. When asked about the money that was taken from my credit card, they blamed it on booking, but when we got in touch we the lady he changed the story into "i know booking didn't have to do anything with this". At first he said we booked one more rome and cancelled it and we have to pay for both rooms, and that's why the money from the credit card went away, but once again the lady from booking said that the other reservation was cancelled just in time for it not to be paid, and once again he changed the story. At one moment he took my card "to check" if it s the one in his system and thanks God I realized he made a copy of the card on both of its sides, and we all know the code on the back is not allowed to be accessible for everyone, since you can make any online payment with that. When my boyfriend asked about it, he didn't even make an excuse he gave it to us, i mean why would a big group of hotels do that. We wanted to talk to someone on higher position but never got the chance. I need to mention that we had a receipt from the bank showing that we have already paid once. At this moment we arrived to late for our flight and we had to pay twice, booking.com assured us that if the hotel doesn't give our initial money back, they'll give it to us. Even if on the bank receipt says black on white that the money went to BARCELO GROUP OCCIDENTAL AURELIA. Why would u even take the double amount of money with you? I wouldn't recommend this hotel not even to my biggest enemy. This hotel made me not want to come back to ITALY ever again.

    “Good value”

    Good hotel, but it is far away from Rome’s attractions even though there is a bus stop in front of the hotel and you can directly go to the Vatican City within 10-15 minutes. Need to walk 10-15 minutes to the nearest Metro if you want to go other Rome’s attraction. If you take the bus outside the hotel, you can get it down near to the Metro.

    “Excellent”

    Beautiful hotel with a very good location and very friendly staff. Breakfast was ok but staff are very helpful. Cleanses is amazing and very good. We are pleased with every thing , only a bit concerned as we vegetarian and more quantities for non veg.

    “Bang for buck!”

    Me and my friend booked this hotel as part of the aim to travel more so weren't expecting anything too special. However it was a brilliant stay with fantastic service. Rooms were very nice, service was more than happy to help and always friendly (shout out to Sahid at the bar!) Couldn't have really asked for more from a 4* hotel!

    “Lovely Setting”

    Great setting in gardens. Modern hotel with good facilities and great buffet breakfast. A but out of the way. 1km to nearest metro station but easy to access all parts from there. Not much around the hotel for eating out and hotel restaurant fairly limited but good quality. Lovely outdoor garden to enjoy in the evening. Breakfast room was too warm could do with upping the aircon a little. Overall a nice modern hotep in a pretty good position.
