We did not buy the premium package of $35 US extra a day. This would have given us access to premium alcohol, and slippers in the room... Rating: 5

    “We Enjoyed our Stay!”

    It is our first time ever to Mexico and we were very pleased to have chosen to go to Huatulco. We stayed at the Barcelo for one week and here are our thoughts: Transfer to Hotel and Check In: Our Sunwing Reps Jonathan and Rafaelo were great. Checking in was a breeze; we were greeted with a refreshing drink. Room: Very pleased with the location: third floor facing the pools and good view of the ocean. Very clean, and the bathroom facilities were all functioning well. No problem with the air conditioning. It had 2 double beds which we didn't have a problem with, except that it is too small for a couple to sleep on. Food and Drinks: Not great, but not bad either. 3 stars out of 5. Ate at the Mexican, Spanish, and Italian restaurants; satisfied with our meals, but the pizza needs improvement. The buffet was good. If you want to taste the alcohol in your drink, ask the bartender for "double" and he gladly obliges. Housekeeping: Excellent. Very, very clean. The employees work very hard to keep everything clean. Wi fi: Very spotty in room. Should be included. Staff: Special mention to Ricardo Morales, Cirilo Martinez, Celso Bohorquez, Marbella, Hernan Perez, Bibiana, Mayren C. They all did a great job serving us with a smile and a warm welcome everytime we encountered them. If I may give suggestions, please relax your pool policy so older teenagers who are too old for the Kids' Pool are able to swim in the Adult Pool. Also, please stock your First Aid kit adequately. I needed a tensor bandage and the kit does not have one. Consider having 2 Queen beds instead of Doubles. We enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo and would recommend it to our friends and family. Please commend your staff accordingly as they are a valuable asset to your establishment.

    “Huatulco Fun”

    We enjoyed our visit, friendly staff and wonderful restaurants. Housekeeping, bartenders, and wait staff were awesome. The pool, grounds,and beach were on point everyday. I have never seen such a hardworking staf.

    “Very good, with some issues”

    With some 25 visits to Mexico over 20 years, you will appreciate wife and I love Mexico and (most) of the Mexican people. We typically do 5 star or 4.5 star packages. We are not difficult to please. First time to Huatulco, and Barceló. Rather than repeat at length what many have stated, here is a quick summary: Positives: As usual, staff were friendly and helpful, going the extra mile when necessary. Room: excellent, thank you to our maid Lucretia. Premium Lounge: small but well stocked, thank you Pablo! Entertainment: Very good and real talent shown. Negatives: Towel game played to the max, but management have made strides in providing more shade adult pool- no effort at all to keep kids out of the pool. Screen of smokers at the swim up bar - yuk. Food: Thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish Restaurant, the others were OK. The Main Buffet was dreadful. Went for lunch one day, 2 minutes after they opened, and the food was already cold. Left immediately. Would we return? Perhaps, we really enjoyed our vacation, met some awesome people. Weather fantastic. It will depend on what is available when we travel next.

    “After vacation hotel contact”

    Great vacation, one week of total beach time, good food and drink, but when we returned , I realized that I lost my cell phone. Thinking I might of left the phone in the room safe, I sent four emails requesting that they check the safe and with house keeping , no response , left me frustrated , all the staff there where friendly when we where their , but once your gone, out of sight out of mind.

    “Amazing First Visit”

    We went to Huatulco Feb 7 till the 21st. The weather is fantastic perfect to say the least. The location is wonderful. Our first room faced the resort next door we had a view of the garden we were happy with the look of the room the only problem was the smell of smoke. We complained to each other every time we were in the room so we decided since we were staying 2 weeks it was worth it to ask to change rooms. We were told we could change rooms the following day. Our second room had a better view pool and ocean and our maid Graciela was wonderful every day she had a different towel animal made for us. She was also very good at putting our items away. Our shoes that we left by the door were even put away. She is the best room maid I have ever had. The mini fridge was stocked well every day. Always with some extras. We tipped the fridge and the maid every day. The beach is beautiful I loved going out in the water it can be a bit ruff at times. Loved walking up the beach to feed the fish and have them swim around my legs inthe morning. It is a quick taxi ride into town we gave 60 pesos. It feels very safe and its great to have a meal and walk around. My husband even walked to town in the mornings to get some exercise. I am going to mention what my husband called towel gate. So our first few days it was so busy that we could not find a chair to sit on we went down and every spot had a towel on it. I was sad that I had paid for a 2 week vacation and I couldn't even sit down other than in the restaurant. So then my husband got up went down put 2 towels on chairs we went for breakfast and would be at our spot by 8am. There were only a few people at that time out on the chairs but most spots would have towels on them. Then security started to remove peoples towels and items, So a person would come down to find someone else in the seat they thought was theirs. This caused many people to be upset. I am not sure what to do about this I think that if a person is planning on spending the day at the seat they should be allowed to keep their items there but if you don't plan on using it till after noon its rude. Next the food you won't go hungry but by the second week I did want to have something hot. The Mexican restaurant had the best staff. I really enjoyed the entertainment crew I loved that the some of the band and singers would be out at the outside buffet I would often go to listen to them even if we ate at a ala cart. The drinks at the bars are fine. The wine isn't very good which made me try some mixed drinks so that was fun. They also have what they call top shelf. I think we pay enough to have one shelf. We didn't pay extra to use the hotel wifi we decided to pay $10 a day to Telus to keep our plan from Canada it was well worth it. We also tried the fish spa the young lady came with a pamphlet to introduce us to the fish spa so we went and tried it out her English wasn't very strong but she was really nice and it was a new experience. I want to say that Fernando the waiter was awesome he always had a huge tray of drinks and managed to keep up serving everyone. I want to give a huge shout out to some other workers. Ivan Estrada, Jenny Ruiz, Luis Orosco, Minan Mtara, Luis Figuero,Jose Flores, Luis Fernando, Ceballos Diaz, Bibiana Gabriel. I am sure that their are many more that should have been mentioned but I just don't have all of their names. Overall great resort wonderful location I understand why so many of our friends recommend this area.
