Barceló Huatulco reviewed by Amy G on . Would definitely come here again - but free wifi would get me there faster Resort - clean, well maintained, lots of staff working hard. We did not buy the premium package of $35 US extra a day. This would have given us access to premium alcohol, and slippers in the room... Rating: 5

    “Fantastic Week”

Just got back from a week at Barcelo. Not sure it could have been better. People were fun, kind, and tended to every need! Entertainment was enjoyable. Accommodations were great! I hope another trip to Barcelo is in our future!

“Hot Sun, Beautiful Area, Nice Facility, Great Hardworking Workers including Fernando C!”

We just spent a great week (3/11-3/18) in Huatulco, Mexico at the Barcelo. Upon landing, we were on our bus in 25m after going thru customs and getting our bags. The ride to the Barcelo is about 20m. We did Club Premium which provided some value to us. PREMIUM- When you enter the lobby at the hotel, go to the left to the Club Premium room for check in(very easy). Oscar and Claudia did a great job at the desk in taking care of all of our needs during the week. Claudia even showed me a suite for future considerations. We were provided Wifi pass codes for all of our devices and made unlimited reservations at the Spanish and italian Restaurants. I have been to most resort destinations in Mexico and this was the best Wifi I have had to date. Jayme Ramirez was there to assist with beverages and did a great job. LOBBY- Nice area with a lobby bar. There were nice breezes flowing thru during the day and live music in the evenings. Great service by Bibiano. Nice artwork in the lobby area by Susan Rubin. ROOM- Our room was an Oceanfront ground level (133) just steps from the pool and the beach. Everything was great with our room but one thing was odd....even if the shower door was perfectly shut, water would still seep out to the bathroom floor(no biggie, there was a drain to dispose of it). Vero Jimenez took care of us all week. Her service was great and she was very accommodating in cleaning at different times of the day based on our activities. She and the beverage cart guy kept our fridge well stocked (water, reg and diet coke, reg and lt Corona, chips, etc..). BEACH/Activities- Nice waves rolling in. Fairly steep down to the water and sand is pretty coarse and can be pretty hot. Water activities house is to the left at edge of the property. We did the free Catamaran out to the end of the bay(25M round trip). Also, Dreams Resort is to the left of the Barcelo and can feed the fish over by the rocks. To the right, a small property right beside the Barcelo and Quinta Real(timeshare) by the rocks to the right. RESTAURANTS/BARS- Breakfast/Lunch, we always ate at the Tortuga which is out by the beach area. The restroom part turned in to the Italian Rest. at night. The bar part is accessible from the restaurant side with a few bar stools, on the sides by the pools( and has water and virgin flavors), and from the water as a swim up bar. Also, there are tables/chairs right outside the restaurant that are shaded. BREAKFAST- Ommelettes/fried eggs at the grill are were good. Great fresh fruits. Most of the other just ok. LUNCH- Mostly ate fresh grilled with choices of chicken, pork chops, beef, and fish. Also, can get tortillas and grilled veggies. The fried, breaded fish was good in the buffet too. I don't have the names of the gal at breakfast or the two guys at lunch but they do a great job at the grills. DINNER- Only did the buffet the first and last night. Struggled with it the first night but the "Fiesta" was great Friday night. Location is right below the lobby with indoor and outdoor seating. SPANISH REST.- Good both times. Great service by Fernando Avila. ITALIAN REST.- Good both times. Great service by Alexander, Victor Leon, and Edwardo Aquilar. POOL AREA- We hung out in the two rows close to the beach but still on the pool deck. The seating goes all the way from the left at the Tortuga to the far right. You are looking at the ocean waves crashing. Right behind you are the pools. Both are just steps away. The best part about this area is the guy that works this area. His name is FERNANDO CATALAN. He always has a smile and checks on you constantly. His service is outstanding and I believe my favorite in all the years we have visited Mexico. Also, Benjamin was great in the area by the family/adult pool areas. GYM- Attached to the spa area. Fairly well stocked with free and machine weights. Also, had treadmills and 3 ellipticals(crammed in a corner). Had a nice locker room with sauna and steam shower. Tennis courts right outside the gym. HUATULCO/LA CRUCECITA- The area is beautiful with beaches and ocean on one side and mountains on the other side. The area is very safe and the people very friendly. We did go to La Crucecita one morning. There is a cute town square with restaurants and shops and also shops if you venture out a couple blocks in the different directions. The cab ride was $3 or so from the Barcelo. Also, we walked across the street from the Barcelo where there is a coffee shop, a few gift shops, a c store/pharmacy, hotel plaza, and three restaurants. We ate at the Alibrijes on our anniversary the 16th. Isreal had a welcome sign acknowledging it and we had a great dinner of ribs, steak, and shrimp. Thank you all for a great week. I look forward to returning to the Huatulco area and would be glad to stay at the Barcelo again too.

    “Awesome Vacation”

Stayed at Barcelo last week. The place is beautiful, clean and the staff was amazing. The hotel is the perfect size, got to meet a lot of super nice people. The food was very good, always hot and so much to choose from. The Spanish restaurant was amazing as well as the sushi. Our room was cleaned beautiful every day. We were in room 331, and had a beautiful view of the pool and ocean. The red and white wine was very good unlike the reviews I read. I personally do not see the need to do the up grade for $70 a day for 2, our room was awesome, and our drinks were just fine. The free wifi, kayaks and hobicats are a nice perk. We are definitely planning on coming back!!!!

“Great beach, not a massive resort”

We enjoyed our stay at Barcelo. The beach and island views were beautiful. Several staff stood out. Jesus Matos on the beach worked hard and steady, always happy and took care of a huge area. Our housekeeper, Liliano Garcia, kept the room beautiful and organized everything and always left a folded up swan made from towels as an extra treat. Finally, Lucero in the Don Quijote Restaurant, always fun, informative and just the right level of attention.
