    “Great Vacation at the Barcelo”

We got the Premium package and glad we did. Had a well stocked mini fridge everyday and quick check in. Nice clean room and love love the shower and had lots of body wash and shampoos daily even though we didn't need it as we always bring our own they were restocked. Thought it was a great idea to have housekeeping come in the evening with fresh towels since everyone seemed to shower after a day around the pool. Our room was spacious and very clean. Great entertainment each evening and we went on Thursday being into San Jose for the art and music Festivel, well worth the 20 min walk or quick $1 bus ride. The 4 pools were clean and the guys at the pool bar were awesome. Loved the hot tub which seems to be popular when the temps cooled down. Nice variety of food at the buffets. Super friendly staff, shout out to Karen from the restaurant who gave us lessons in Spanish, she is a sweetheart. Also to Oz and Danny for the great music entertainment by the pool and their band that played some great rock music. To Jorge who always had a big smile and hello and so helpful with organizing our transportation and such. And to Jared who spends days on the phone to the airport trying to find my husbands luggage that was missing from Air Canada for 5 days. Jared a big thank you for all you did for us. We had a great relaxing vacation and would recommend this resort to our friends. We will be back.

“Quick get away from rainy California.”

Last min decision to go to Cabo to get away from all the rain in Northern California during Feb. Barcelo Grand was somewhat mediocre compared to some of the resorts we’ve been to in Mexico. The place looked like it needs some refurbishment, upkeep. We had a beachfront junior suite on the fifth floor overlooking the Sea of Cortez, beautiful view. Room was spacious and very clean. The dinning was somewhat sub par, again compared to other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico that we have been to. The selection of “A la Carte Dinning” restaurants was also limited to “La Gondola” - Italian, “Las Jicamas” - Mexican. The location is ideal, walking distance to old town San Jose and approximately 30 min from the airport.

    “DID NOT honor our reservation”

Tried to check in on Friday Feb 10 and they would not honor our reservation we had since May 25th 2016. They said because it was for only one night (cruising on Saturday) they needed the room for people that were staying four days. They accepted our reservation online. They confirmed our reservation. Really? But the kicker is THEY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD for the night. They graciously drove us to the the Holiday Inn. I did not come to Mexico to stay at the Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn does not charge the same rate as a night at the Barcelo. Funny thing is, we met a couple (on our cruise) that the same thing happened to them. Their lie to them was that their room had plumbing problems. Another couple at the Holiday Inn said a similar thing happened to them. Barcelo called them three days before they were suppose to arrive. Said they needed their room for a conference. At least, they stayed at the Dreams hotel. The Holiday Inn staff was very nice, and the place was clean. It did not have the same facilities as the Barcelo. Take a chance it won't happen to you. Good Luck

“Wish I could have rated below average, but not poor”

Seemed understaffed compared to other resorts in Mexico. Also seemed to be fewer employees who who had very good English skills. Not as much to do either. There were 2 choices only for beer, and the food was skimpy at the snack bar. One pool table was broke for half the week, and our a/c never dropped below 24C (75F), but was considered fixed. Ground floor room, so opening patio door not an option. The buffet foods though were very good. It is also a long distance from Cabo San Lucas where the nightlife is. It doesn't make sense either to see blue, red and silver bracelets come from an ocean front room when golds are relegated to 4-6 rows back and on the ground floor.

    “Know what to expect”

We just came back from Cabo two days ago with a lot of good and bad experiences. The Barcelo hotel is ok, not great, we were a bit disappointed. The pools were nice, clean and heated, which is a big plus in the winter. Mornings were the best. Most people at the pool were nice and polite, but there were groups that were drunk, loud, swearing and smoking at the pool, or playing loud music. The gardens are very nicely maintained, the walkways clean and swiped regularly. The shower near the beach often did not work. Most of the toilets near the pool did not have seats. The beach is very nice and clean. Not swimmable, but our kids had a lot of fun in the sand anyways. There are people trying to sell you stuff but it's not too bad. The food at the hotel is ok. Lots of great fruit, vegetable and juice options, but most meat dishes were a mediocre at best. Pork and beef generally were tough, "enhanced" chicken meat tasted gummy. The low point were the instant mashed potatoes. One morning when they ran out of orange juice so they put in some artificial powder drink. On the other hand my husband really liked the freshly grilled squid or fish and the freshly made omelets for breakfast were great too. The drinks were good if you get the fresh stuff - like mojito. Pina colada and such tasted artificial. I guess that's what most people are used to. Most of the staff we interacted with were nice and courteous. Many of them did not speak more than a few words in English but were trying and working hard. One lady manager seemed to be genuinely interested in improving things and asked us several times how do we like things. We booked the Premium Level as recommended on the reviews. We were happy with our room - nice and clean, great shower, good view, wifi worked great. The Premium Level Lounge was very nice too. We were supposed to get a bottle of champagne and some petit fours upon checkin and a bottle of Tequilla later on - we got none of it. I assume we would get it if we asked for it but we just did not bother. It should have been there. One day my daughter forgot her snorkeling gear at the pool. Nobody turned it in. The restaurants at the hotel were quite booked. The one time we made a reservation it got lost and we had to go back to the room and search for the reservation paper to actually get us in. I needed some antibiotics for a tooth that flared up (I had a root canal few days before). The nurse at the hotel charged me $50 just for a prescription. She could have just told me there is a pharmacy across the street that sells anything without prescription. We were trying to be nice and tip everybody - the waiters, bartenders, the cleaning maids. One time we forgot and left the envelope with money for tips on the safe. When we came back it was gone! It was only about $30, but it was just another thing that negatively affected our experience. Combined with some other rip-offs outside of the hotel I am not sure I will be coming back to Cabo anytime soon. I really don’t like feeling like a walking wallet. If you do go to Cabo and want to get outside of the hotel, here is what I recommend: - get a taxi and go to a nice beach like Playa Palmilla ($15/10min. ride). Especially in the morning there are very few people, no salesmen, the beach gorgeous, swimmable, decent snorkeling. You can see fishermen gutting the freshly caught tunas and a bunch of pelicans and seagulls waiting nearby for the scraps. - we had a wonderful kayaking & snorkeling experience with Casey from Cabo Outfitters
