    “Couples Only Trip 2018”

We arrived to Barcelo later in the evening, which seemed to rob us of it's vibrant beauty that is noticeable during the day. The architecture is amazing and the resort is tucked away in a secluded quaint little cove away from the hustle and bustle of the heart of the city. All inclusive is the way to go considering that this resort is further south than most resorts (30 minute coastal drive from the airport). It is located near the Casa Iguana Hotel sparking the popularity of Puerto Vallarta, made famous by the 1960's film. I heard Predator was also filmed in the lush jungle just inland of the resort as well (cue Arnold roar). The Botanical Garden is a little ways more South and is home to one of the best restaurants we tried, El Hacienda. The Malecon is 15-20 minutes north where there are tons of things to do. Vallarta Adventures offers a lot of tours, ranging from outdoor adventures (ATV, snorkeling, diving, zip lining, canyoneering, water sliding, kayaking, etc.). Must try Savia a.k.a. Rhythm of the Night... Trust me! You may be able to get a good deal if it's the slow season. Truly, you may not need to ever leave the resort with it's fun pool experience, nearby amenities (got a massage on the beach daily), several fine dining restaurants, 24-hour room service, unlimited top shelf spirits (Tres Generations, Johnny Gold, Buchannans, Patron, etc.) and finely crafted snacks (premium access only) and all day buffet (food was better than Cabo offerings and never got sick once). There we also daily taco bar and nightly themed activities. The Cantina is open until 1 a.m. if you manage to delete your mini bar that is replenished daily. The only things that need work is the wording on the $500 Resort Credit, which is poorly worded and pertains to resort discounts up to $500 US (Very misleading). Also, due to the humidity, the sheets can take on a "moist smell," which was easily remedied by a quick call to housekeeping. The good thing is that you will get your money's worth regardless of the discounts, but I feel it is better for Barcelo to just leave this "incentive" out since it appears to be more damaging than beneficial. Everyone is friendly for the most part, can't speak for the local guests though, but it just may be a cultural barrier. Oscar Martinez was extremely helpful and super friendly. The place is pretty safe and after a drunken stooper following a day at the swim-in pool bar, we lost my pair of Oakley's, wet shoes, Paid Dues shirt and slippers. Staff is always on their P's and Q's and you don't have to worry about them jacking your stuff. Concierge was more than helpful with recovering everything the following day. Overall, the resort is gorgeous, rooms are huge and can accommodate a whole family if needed with ocean front views. The place feels a little more upscale and but your Spring Break party destination, aside from the lively pool atmosphere (There is and adult, sport, kiddie and old folks pool). I highly recommend this place and give it four stars and would easily give it five if their marketing guru did away with the"Resort Credit" deception.

    “Great experience!”

We came in January with our two small toddlers and my parents; our room was amazing and perfect for vacationing with small children. As soon as you entered the unit there was a bedroom; this is where we kept the kids. Then, you walked down a short hallway, passed by two bathrooms, and entered the main room with a king bed, balcony, TV, mini bar etc. So we could still stay up and have a nightcap on our balcony without worrying about waking the babies. It was perfect for us! We loved the view from our balcony - it was magical to wake up to. You don't go to Barcelo PV for the beach - it's small, and the red flag was waving every day we were there so we didn't dare bring the youngsters in. The pools are wonderful and clean, and it's a real treat to get drinks ordered in through the pool staff. The a la carte restaurants are fantastic. We ate at the Italian, Spanish and japanese restaurants and loved them all. My two year old got sick one night all over the bed and in a panic I called the front desk - they sent housekeeping over within minutes and she was so lovely in changing the sheets for us. The staff at Barcelo PCV are truly lovely. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

    “4th Time...Perfecto!”

First and best part of Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is the staff. The ones I remember most are Christian at the front desk that got our family room changed to 2 queens, no problema! Oscar Hernandez in the buffet restaurant that manages to do the work of 3 people with a friendly smile always! Also Ms. Rodriguez making the best tacos al pastor at the lunch bar. (Tip the staff people, they work hard to please the guests.) The room: Very spacious, 2 kings with separate bedrooms, tv's in each, room safe, a fridge with drinks and snacks left daily (just leave a note with the items you prefer) and a balcony with an amazing view. Cleaned perfectly daily! The 3 pools were a perfect temperature. The main pool with a swim up bar is very large with a nice swim up bar. The busy bartender will make drinks as strong as you want, just ask. Iguanas if you look closely on the other side of the pool. Quieter pool on the north side with a hot tub that is actually hot in the middle (rare find in Mexico) We had a 3 year old grandson so a lot of time was spent at the separate waterslide area for the small kids...perfect. They also have a volleyball pool and another hot tub that we never used. The entertainment staff did a good job without bothering those that didn't wish to participate. Ping pong table by the kids pool. We haven't tried the specialty restaurants, as we enjoy the buffet with the view of the beach. Plenty of selection with a different theme daily. They always have chefs in the center of the buffet that will cook things to order. The breakfast buffet is the best, especially with the fresh orange juice squeezing machine! The poolside taco bar was great for tacos or casual dining from a menu if you prefer. Ice cream machine there. If you desire a change of pace, there are several local restaurants right outside the hotel, El Jacalito, Tony's, various beach restaurants and our favorite this time was Ramada Miramar that I did a separate review on. The beach is fun, plenty big enough for us, with a short walk along the shoreline that is paved and an easy stroll. There are $20 massages just down the beach for a whole hour. It's nice to be away from the crowds, yet it is only a 20 minute cab ride to the Malecon in PV, or a cheap bus ride for adventure. Another fun part of this hotel is all the available activities you can do yourself without the expensive tours. I recommend the zoo where you can pet baby tigers etc (expensive) or just tour the zoo for $10. Bring your bug spray, it's in the jungle. Spend the $3 for the cab instead of walking. El Eden is about a 3 mile cab ride up a dirt road, where you can slide down a waterfall for free and see where The Predator was made. They also have 13 ziplines up there. Avoid the restaurant there. Bungee jumping is right before the hotel if you want a thrill. Botanical gardens is not too far south of the hotel. You can hire a boat on the beach to go to Los Arcos for $50 an hour. We always book a day with Sergio Lopez of Galilea Tours. He has the nicest boat there, twin engine with a toilet etc. He'll customize a day for Yelapa, Quixmoto Falls on horseback, snorkeling, remote beaches etc. I posted a few activity pics from around the Barcelo, since others have posted all the beautiful views around the hotel. Our 3 year old enjoyed the game room, get tokens at the gift shop. Barcy kid's club was fun for him too, for a couple of hours. The souvenir shop is very inexpensive, unlike other hotels. Bring your pesos for the shops (they don't exchange dollars) or just charge things to the room. We didn't have bug bite issues in April, but there is free bug spray at the cantina bar. Towel cards are used, plenty of chairs, so no need for towel games. I tried to cover it all, but feel free to message with any questions.
