    “Best Vacation Ever!”

This was our second year in a row coming here and it was even better than the first year. Upon arrival we were greeted at the entrance by Enrique Gomez, the worlds best concierge, he even remembered us from last year. Thanks to Ana Leyva, check in at Club Premium was fast, efficient and fun. We even got VIP bracelets. Our room in the Sayil building was wheelchair accessible, clean, cool and smelled fresh. Throughout our stay the housekeeping services were outstanding. Remember to hang the please clean room sign on the doorknob in the morning. There is a handy clothes drying rack on every balcony, it helps wet clothes from getting musty in the room. There is a Dressel Divers shop on the resort, they also look after the motorized watersports. A big shout out to J, Victoria and Miguel for their awesomeness in helping out my wife with the banana boat ride, jet skiing, and parasailing, she had a blast. We also visited the Barcelo non motorized watersports beach and were treated to a wonderful Hobie Cat sail, thanks to the gracious assistance and support from Francisco Galvez and his staff. They have a beach wheelchair to take you to the sailboat so you don't get sand in your bearings. We ate breakfast at the Caribe buffet most mornings and were honored to be served by Hassim Viana and Leticia Sanchez, both of them remembered our names and preferences from last year, how awesome is that? The variety and quality of food options were amazing and delicious, the coffee hot and fresh, the smiles everywhere. For the a la cartes, we first tried, La Fuente Spanish cuisine. The lamb chops with brandy sauce, cooked by the rising star Desire Ramirez, were fantastic. Our server Victor Torres prepared us a Mayan coffee, with our dessert, what a show to watch and the results were delicious. We can't say enough good things about the staff including Gonzalo Gonzalez who kept us supplied with drinks and laughter. Next we tried Restaurante Brasserie French cuisine. A beautiful restaurant overlooking the Caribbean, the décor and ambience are truly fine dining. Our servers, Nelson Perez and Victor Carrillo were a perfect combination of attention to detail, perfect timing and service excellence. Our meals were beyond compare, delicious from start to finish. Most days for lunch we went to Captain Morgan beach grill. They have the best roasted chicken and caramelized small potatoes, I think I had it 4 days out of 7. They also serve good fries.Obed Jimenez was usually our server and we will never forget him, he is a shining example of customer service/public relations. During our stay this year one individual stood out more than anyone, Mario Cadenas. When we met him last year he was a Supervisor at the Caribe buffet. This year we saw him one evening as the Manager of La Fuente, and on another day as Manager of Captain Morgan. In our opinion he is the epitome of professionalism, you can see the respect and admiration in those working with him. He is very well spoken and always immaculately dressed. It is a genuine pleasure to know Mario. As a wheelchair user I would like to thank Barceló for making their resort so wheelchair friendly. I noticed since last year they have made the beauty services area of U Spa accessible also, bravo! Barceló Maya Grand Resort is our paradise destination and we are already booked to return in 2018.

    “Not bad could be better”

My family and I’ve traveled to Mexico many time. We used all Grand Bahia resorts, Iberostars and this year spring break first time in Barcelo Maya Caribe. I’ll give you honest positive and negative thoughts regarding this resort from my prospective. Buffet: Main buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner)- supper delicious food with good service. Beach buffet just start works at 10:30am, so if you would like to have morning coffee then only main buffet for that or your room. Ground: Very clean, spotless. The sad part that no any animals in this resort. You can ride around those 5 Barceló resorts on Double decker bus. Night Shows: As I said before, this only from my prospective… shows very, very boring. Maybe except Michal Jackson’s show, but been watched that show 20 times. Beach/Pool: Pool – clean, nice and busy with good music and aerobics. Swimming bar/pool bar- drinks awful. Beach- blue clean water, very hard sand, some spots you standing like on the rock. No any activities on the beach- no music, no drinks, no beach cooking Spanish paella, nothing! You on your own. Rooms: Standard room, clean with good A/C and ceiling fan. You have to pay for room service. Please, be aware- WIFI not free, have to pay for kid’s Water Park, mini golf, bowling.... and arcade. Ice cream cart near the beach not free too.

    “Beautiful Resort and Beach”

We visited in April for Spring break and traveled with 3 other families. We were overall pleased with the resort. I would recommend this resort as it is great for families. We did not encounter any rowdy spring breakers as mentioned in other reviews. The resort takes their wristband policy very seriously, everyone under the age of 18 gets a black wristband and they are very strict about that. Below I will review the specifics: Property: The property is well maintained and the grounds are lush and tropical. The beach was beautiful, it was lined with many palm trees if you wanted shade and there were plenty of chairs. We never had any issues getting chairs. Rooms: We stayed in a standard room with two double beds. The room was a little musty but was was satisfactory. The housekeeping staff cleaned all but one day. We had to hang a sign on the door letting them know that we wanted the room cleaned, otherwise they won't clean everyday. A nice surprise in the room was that there was a day bed which was nice because we had our 2 daughters in the room and one of them was able to sleep on that. Food: A La Carte Restaurants - We were able to call before our arrival to reserve our a la carte dinners. They say that you can't but Guest Services was able to do this for us. I highly recommend calling ahead of time, getting confirmation numbers and double checking with Guest Services when you arrive!! We ate at the following a la carte restaurants: La Trattoria - this was an Italian restaurant and I found it to be disappointing mainly because the quality of the food was not what I expected. Maranostrom - this is a seafood restaurant and I would recommend only if everyone in your party likes seafood. There is nothing else on the menu but seafood. Santa Fe Steak house - this was my favorite meal by far. I had the tenderloin and it was excellent. Tokyo - hibachi style restaurant. The food was excellent and our cook was entertaining. This restaurant is a must visit! Only negative was that we ran into a problem with our reservation at this restaurant . We had a confirmation number but it was not in their system. The hostess was rude so we asked to speak to a manager who was able to fit us in at the next seating. Buffets: The food was average, I have no complaints. For breakfast we enjoyed the omelets, fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice. The mimosa and bloody mary stations were a nice touch. For lunch we ate at Captain Morgans and enjoyed the pasta station as well as salads. They also had pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs and chips. I was a little dissapointed in the pico de galo as it was just chopped tomatoes and onions. I would have like something more authentic being in Mexico. Drinks: The house liquor is not so good. We did not have the premium package but learned that we could request certain name brands when ordering our drinks. You would have to watch to make sure you were getting the name brand otherwise you would get the house brand. Also, I think the mixers that they use need to be improved upon, we were disappointed with the taste of the mixers used in the drinks. Lines got long at the pool and swim up bars. We brought insulated cups which they were happy to fill for you and since they are larger, this meant less trips to the bar. Staff: I was not overly impressed with the staff, in particular, the front desk staff were not friendly or very helpful. Activities: Dressel Divers- We booked 2 dives and the staff was excellent. We were very pleased with the service and quality of the dives. We also booked a snorkel cruise which we really enjoyed. We also booked an ATV tour at the resort. I would recommend this as the cost was reasonable and we all enjoyed driving through the jungle to the cenote. Our guide was awesome and very knowledgeable about the culture and history. We did not make use of the waterpark as the beach and pools were enough. We bowled at Strikers more than once, there was a charge for the bowling but it was a nice activity. WIFI: Free wifi is only available at certain times in certain parts of the resort. In this day and age, wifi should be resort wide and free for all guests. What makes any negative in my review all worth it was the beautiful beach which was what I was there for. Would I stay again...yes but we usually like to visit different places each time we travel so we probably will not visit again for that reason only.

“Pros and cons: Family of 4 ”

I am from Miami and came for spring break with my two kids, 23 mo old and 4 yo. Overall experience 6/10, wouldn't return due to lack of customer service only. All 4 Barcelo Hotels are linked. We had upgraded to premium. Pro: 1.amazing pools for kids, 4 of them. Very kid friendly 2. Tons to eat at Buffet all day, with kids buffet as well 3. Hotels and gardens very clean 4. Buffet staff friendly, cleaning always, good hygiene 5. Premium room was clean, nice view, has jacuzzi in balcony 6. Beaches clean. You can do some water activities for free. 7. Babysitting on request. 8. Kids club at night for dancing Cons: 1. They advertise $1000 dollar credit. That's false. It's a $1000 total of purchases you make in hotel where they give you 25 % off, and those 25 % off every purchase adding up to $1000. 2. You have to pay for water park, mini golf at certain hours, bowling.... and arcade. Basically most day activities. 3. Lack of day entertainment specially when it rains. Nothing to do. Specially for kids. 4. They don't make it clear anywhere that for dinner at one of their restaurants, part of all inclusive, man have to wear pants. I say man as women wore dress shorts. I get no gym clothes, tank tops, open sandals for men or bathing suits, my husband had shorts with dress shoes and nice shirts. It's the Caribbean he didn't pack dress pants. We were turned away with kids at 830 pm. They offered to lend him pants but he didn't want to wear something not his, can't blame him. They were rude about it, telling us we should know dress policy! We couldn't eat at any of the dinner sit down restaurants any of the 6 nights. We complaint with Premium staff. Felt they needed to express that to the costumer and make it obvious on their web. There response was only, write up a report. It happens frequently. That's it. Sorry. I spent over $3000 dollars for this vacation, not allowed to go eat at any restaurant bc of "the rule" and all I got was "write it up". Feel that was unfair. I've never had poor customer service like that at any of our other trips. Not worth the premium price, basically "premium" means a more modern room which we did like. 5."premium" means better alcohol. Felt that if you didn't ask, and even if they saw your bracelet, sometimes they served you the lower alcohol. Water down drinks by far. Overall, my stay way ok. I thought I would love this trip, I planned it for months. If u want a get a way and want to sacrifice customer service or don't care, this is for you. If you want high customer service for what you pay, plus the upgrade you pay in Premium level, go else where. I was let down. Even if my husband would have been granted a cheap bottle, a 20 min massage, a dry clean service... Anything! but not a "write a report, sorry" answer from the manager herself I would enjoyed the rest of my week better.

    “Barcelona Maya Caribe/Beach”

We booked the Maya Caribe for the end of March / beginning of April. The resort was lovely except a few things: we happened to be there the same time as Michigan high school spring break which very nearly ruined our vacation. Tip #1 Do check with the resort for any spring breakers. I will say the kids and their parents were pretty awful and I felt for the staff trying to keep it under control. They destroyed property, noisy at all hours, so again ask the resort about timing before you book. We asked to move to the Maya Beach to avoid the kids. The Caribe is central to the entire maya resort which means you are close to the mall and partiers. The Maya Beach resort building is farther down BUT also close to the adult pool which was where we spent most of our time. The buffet food was meh. It was typical resort buffet food. The a la crates we're fine - we went to the Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Seafood, and Spanish. You will pay extra for wine, but it's not really expensive. There is lots do do on the resort - it was a bit too windy to swim in the ocean much but no bugs on the beach, rooms were clean but again unless you want to party book away from the mall between the Colonial and Caribe. We also went to the spa and had an amazing massage. There's a bus to get from one area of the whole resort to another. We loved the Maya Beach, and would book the cabanas at the adult pool for the day ($20USD) which allowed you to have a nice shelter by the pool all day.
