    “Great place”

Excellent and clean resort. There is also a water park (extra cost), shopping mall with many stores. bowling place, haunted horror house (extra cost), and a disco. There are other Barcelo hotels located in one property and you need to take bus transportation to move from one to another. This is my favorite resort, we definitely will go back there. Everyone is very friendly.

“Amazing beach, access to activities, and non-stop guacamole...but Barcy (Kids) Club needs improvement”

We were on a family vacation with two young kids. Our room was good, always clean with unlimited peanuts provided if asked. The only thing is two adults sleeping on a double bed is a short term thing and would have like to have the option to have a queen size bed, with two single beds for the kiddies (we stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Coba last year and they got that down - king size bed for the parents, two singles for the kiddies). The resort is amazing in so many ways. The beach is wonderful, always clean. The beach side restaurant is good, and one can go to the Colonial and Tropical parts of the resort. There was always amazing guacamole at any of the restaurants. We had dinner at the buffet every night and it was different themes every day: Asian, Mexican, Spanish, etc. All of the food that we tried was great. Plenty of selection. Including fruits (papayas, watermelons, guavas, etc.) The kids loved the food. The Colonial part of the resort has a great waterpark for kids, it was amazing. The one on the Caribe side is a good size too, but the Colonial is larger. For the Pirate waterpark, the kids have to be 7 years old or older and it is an additional fee of 20US. If you want to rent snorkeling gear (no additional fees), bring 50US or your credit card with you before heading out for the day. They won't lend it to you without the cash or cc. Overall, amazing experience, and would go again. Now the down side: the Barcy (Kids) Club is (in my modest opinion) extremely disorganized: don't get me wrong, my kids loved running around the beautiful indoor facility with 4 huge tv screens, videogames, while being offered candy, but my idea was that if there is a program (which there is), that the Club sticks to it (again, we had an amazing experience with the kids club at the Gran Bahia Principe Coba last year, where everything ran like a German train and the kids were engaged and always had an amazing time). Staff didn't really know what was happening during the day without consulting the program that I was given when I was first approached about my kids joining. In fact, out of the three caregivers there only one looked like she enjoyed what she was doing. Two incidents bent the camel's back for me: when my kids were first approached to join the Club they were told that they would do a scavenger hunt which they were really excited about. When i came back to get them, they told me they didn't go because the list was full. When I asked what happened, I was given the answer that my kids gave me. So why did you encourage my kids to come in the first please? Second occasion, the kids were to go to a waterpark. I came back a half an hour early before they would come back from the waterpark, and my kids were still at the Club. I thought they didn't go, but the caregiver told me that I had not signed a consent form and therefore my 7 year old did not go. i was not informed that they were going to the Pirate waterpark, that i needed to sign a consent form, and that my 5 year old couldn't actually join them. That would have been good to know when i dropped them off :) When I dropped them off, they didn't forget to mention to me a paid activity that evening for the kids though :) Just felt a little disconnected and disorganized. My kids still loved it, just felt disappointed those two times especially and just overall, didn't feel like the caregivers cared to be engage the kids and have a good time. There needs to be some improvement in that Club. Message to the readers of this review: your kids will love it, but don't tell your kids what the plan is for the day at the Barcy Club :) Next time maybe we will try the Colonial Barcy Club. Overall, the resort was beautiful, relaxing, the beach was clean and everything was close to it. Loved the guacamole, and the mango daquiris :) Next year maybe we will book on the Colonial side.

    “IDEAL RESORT FOR FAMILY VACATION”

Excellent resort with unbelievable facilities. Includes a water park (extra cost), shopping mall with bowling, video games, haunted horror house, disco and many stores. 5 hotels located in one property with bus transportation to move you from one to another. The rooms are spacious, clean and the perfect choice to bring your family to mexico for a unique experience. Food in the restaurants are very abundant and very good. Will certainly return,

    “Overall Great Resort!”

My husband and I stayed here with two other couples for four nights, three full days. Overall, we had a fantastic experience! Grounds- The entire resort was very clean! The grounds, including the beach and the pools, were very well-kept and SO beautiful! This is kind of random, but watch out for slippery tile near the rooms! The buildings with the rooms are open-air but covered, and the hallways and staircases are all floored with tile. Because it was open-air and it's really humid, the floor is kind of slick. Someone in our group slipped and fell going down the stairs, and I found that I had to be really careful when walking on the tile! Be careful! Staff- Every staff member that we encountered was extremely friendly, kind, and helpful! You can tell that all of the staff worked hard to make sure that all guests had a great experience. We received excellent service the entire time we were there. Rooms- Our room was great! There was nothing super special about it, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the A/C worked, and that was all we really cared about! When we booked, all that was available was a room with two full beds, but we requested a room with a king bed if there was one available, which we did get. I also loved the mini bar with complementary drinks that was re-stocked daily. Restaurants/Food/Bars- The food was not wonderful, but it wasn't terrible either...it was pretty average. If you are looking to stay somewhere with fantastic food, I would not recommend this place. However, there was a HUGE variety of food at the buffets for every meal! The only big complaint I have about the restaurants are lack of choices. We got two "nice dinners" and it seemed like we had several restaurants to choose from....but we went to go book our dinners right after we checked in, and although there were about 8 restaurants, we had 3 or 4 choices of times/days and places for our two meals. It wasn't a huge problem, but it seemed strange that our choices were so limited. Maybe we could have made reservations before we came? I'm not sure. It would be worth looking into. So again, if amazing food is your priority, I would consider staying somewhere else. The bars were all fantastic! Drinks were really good, bartenders were awesome! Entertainment- We only went to one show, and we all enjoyed it! At Caribe, there was a small "mall" with several stores and vendors, it was fun to walk around and shop. There is a nightclub that we spent like 10 minutes in and left because that's not really our thing, but it seemed like an average nightclub. You also have access to the other hotels/sections of the resort, and we could have spent a ton of time exploring those areas. I would warn that bowling, mini golf (after 7pm), the water park, and a few things cost extra, and we were under the impression that they were included. Another warning was that the only free wifi was in the lobby from 10am-1pm daily...not a huge deal, but something that we were not aware of. We booked an excursion through guest services with Adventuras Mayas. They took us zip lining, repelling, snorkeling in a cenote, and to the ruins at Tulum. I would HIGHLY recommend this excursion! They also fed us lunch and our guide was amazing, and it was fairly inexpensive. Transportation- The only transportation we used (aside from the excursion picking us up and dropping us off) was SuperShuttle to and from the airport. We received great service from them. Be aware that the resort is about an hour away from the Cancun airport, which we could have figured out if we had looked more closely at our location. It wasn't a big issue, we just weren't aware of it. We had an amazing vacation overall! If you're an extremely picky person, you might not love it, but we had a great experience and would definitely go back!

“Overall an Excellent Vacation for Family”

The Great, The Look Fors and Overall... The Great Fantastic facility. Our rooms were clean and exactly what we needed. We got exactly what we asked for. Friendly Staff - bartenders and servers were very friendly and tried to speak English if you tried to speak a little Spanish :) AMAZING FOOD. The buffet has a lot of options. Something for everyone from senior to children. A LA CARTEs were dynamite - we did 4. Our favourites were the Spanish and Japanese...again, these were loved by all 6 of us. Great beach. Another Canadian who has been to mexico 10x told us it's the nicest one she has been too--sandy rather than rocky so we hit the jackpot Great pool- great size, nice environment Lots of things to do for kids --child painted some ceramics (additional charge but it got him out of the sun--supervisor didn't do much other than just supervise though --no helpful tips or interaction with the kids), kids activities available every day but he stayed with us at the Beach. Perfect environment for fun family party atmosphere. The Mexican folk dancing show was awesome. Nice to see the different dances from different parts of Mexico. My child liked the Michael Jackson show and the circus show. Excursions - Do the Dolphin one through travel provider (for us it was Nexus) rather than the one at the resort --my child said it was the highlight (it was also less expensive and a better dolphin to group ratio). Snorkleing to see turtles and swimming in the Ceynote was amazing - got some great picts. Our group leader was incredible --knowledgeable and educated. The private hospital facilities were probably better than our own. The "look out fors" Some of the things they advertise are not really included -eg the water park, bowling and sea dos all have additional charge. The $1000 credit advertised isn't a credit at all...it's $1000 worth of discounts on 40 different possibilities with several stipulations (eg 25% off the $20 water park fee, 10% off the gift shop BUT only on Barcelo items etc). We didn't use this supposed "credit" for anything after we went into several stores and they said they wouldn't give a discount. We put in a complaint with the front desk as for false advertising and they offered us a meal of free room service worth about $15 each The A La Cartes book up superfast--book them your first day there. All of our dinners were pretty early because that was all we can get and we booked on the 2nd day there. This is not Hotel related but just a heads up ---The medical staff can be sketchy at the hospital...they kept trying to get us to sign and pay for services on paperwork written in Spanish. Even the paramedic tried to get us to pay $80 for the ride to the hospital (a $25 cab ride). You have to be insistent and say call the insurance...usually the staff can't speak English so it means back and forth with someone in Administration. One time they us a form to sign and had an English laminated "translation" on a SEPARATE sheet but wanted us to sign the Spanish form that we couldn't read. Shifty. . Had a hard time even trying to call out of the hospital to contact us. The doctor refused to give anything for migraine because they said the headache was due to high blood pressure from the pain due to infection. Blinding pain for almost 6 hours and it wouldn't go away and they wouldn't give a pain killer even after they gave bp medication. Why not just give her the blood pressure medication AND a pain killer?! The doctors at the hotel clinic can speak English but the pharmacist couldn't at all and didn't really look like she cared to help. We had to ask the doctor to be the translator/mediator. The pharmacy also ordered and gave less meds than the doctor prescribed so then she had to go back to the clinic to ask them wth happened. OVERALL The "look fors" were small compared to the overall experience and all the positive memories we have of this vacation. The entire family wants to come back to this resort again! There were 6 of us ranging in age from 10-65 and we all had a great time.
