    “Even Better”

    We have stayed with Occidental Allegro many times and still enjoy everything they have to offer. In the near past there have been lots of improvements made to the resort, some of them are physical property and some with the staff. The buildings have been refurbished with new concrete and steel stairs. These stairs and railings fit in nicely with the architecture of the buildings and grounds. The rooms now have new AC with digital ATC. The units run quietly while reducing the humidity for comfortable sleep. Other physical changes were the widening of the walkways and new appliances in the buffet restaurant to keep the food warm and comply with "Serve-Safe" standards. Many new palm trees have been added on the beach to replace the palapas. You will also find lots of shade alongside of both pools with the addition wooden structures that have fabric woven among the horizontal supports to help with the shade and air flow. We were told that other planned additions were a water park area similar to the property in Cozumel and a fitness center. We have always found the staff at the Allegro to be very attentive, polite and professional. With the new ownership we still received the same great service plus a little bit more. There were more people helping to manage some of the very busy times. Adrian Sanchez Hernandez was always present to help insure that the well trained staff had everything they needed to make your time spent with them enjoyable. He accomplished this in a very quiet manner. Some of the staff that we have met in earlier visits were still there and would like to thank Isaac, Juan and Ricardo for making us feel very welcome and comfortable. Another addition to the staff was Claudia. She would help manage the noon buffet area and calmly remind some of the guests of the dress code in the restaurant by explaining the code and also showing them a picture of what was expected. Thank you to these members of the Occidental Allegro staff, along with all the other Occidental Allegro staff members for making our visit so comfortable. We stayed in our Occidental Allegro First Club section of the resort. All the rooms were very clean, comfortable and well cared for daily as well as the grounds. We did notice that many of the newer service carts had pneumatic wheels to help with any noise issue of transporting food and materials. We did get to see German, Kinga (with Nikko) for the first time in about three years and it was a happy reunion. They make you feel like friends that you haven't seen in awhile and glad you are seeing them again. In the First Club area one thing has NOT changed at all, and that is the professionalism and feeling of friendship extended by Jessica, Saria, Santigo, Jose and the new additions of Elizabeth and Julio. We have to thank these people for all their help in making our stay to be so warm and memorable. We are looking forward to seeing you again next year and hopefully having a longer time to stay.

    “A fantastic overall family holiday”

    From arrival to departure the staff at this hotel offered excellent, friendly and helpful service. The entertainment/animation staff were outstanding, especially Alejandro, Fernando, Mario, Victor, Miguel, Roberto and Zamba, providing non stop activities for the whole family. Overall the buffet food was good but trying to book at the a la carte restaurants was time consuming and seemed disorganised with ever changing rules. However, the staff by the poolside and lunch buffet seemed to work tirelessly.The rooms were immaculate and cleaned to a high standard everyday. One thing that really needs to be addressed is the way in which people are approached by the 'Occidental Vacation Club' which in fact is just a timeshare. Advice : do not go for the complimentary breakfast as its just a presentation to join their 'first club' (timeshare). If you do join and want to cancel you must do so within five days of starting the contract, put it in an email referencing cancellation clause 29 and personally deliver it to the operations manager of the occidental club and copy in Profeco (Mexican legal support). Overall our stay was extremely positive and we had an amazing time thank you to all the staff, we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel!

    “Overall, disappointing resort although most staff tried hard to offer tourists a positive experience”

    We stayed in this resort for 14 nights over Easter and prompted this review - first time ever I have written a negative report. Rooms very small and thatched roofs leak when rains, bathrooms need upgraded! Beds comfortable but same duvet for 2 weeks, sheets changed daily. No Wi-Fi in 4* accommodation so require to pay even to use in public areas and only allowed 2 devices! Food in buffet restaurant poor and same thing every night, breakfast and lunch acceptable. A La Carte restaurants average (best one Oriental, worst Mexican). Staff on reception require to go on customer service course, however worst scenario for us was being pestered every day for 2 weeks to attend a "1.5 hr breakfast which was actually a half day timeshare presentation by Barcelo hotels" - atrocious that the hotel allows this to happen in the reception area. Golf at nearby Hard Rock was prohibitively expensive and did not welcome tourists. Animation staff, especially Fernando and Roberto were excellent and waiting staff also friendly. Location good/close to 5th Ave shopping which is mediocre and right on the beach if you enjoy watersports. All in all, we were not impressed at all with the Allegro so my advice is choose an alternative. No one asked for feedback regarding our experience there and I suspect I know why!

    “2nd visit to the Allegro Playacar.”

    This was our second stay at the Allegro Playacar. We stayed from April 14th till the 21st. Our overall review is very positive with one or two exceptions. The staff again were wonderful and friendly and the resort is very clean! There is always someone cleaning. Our room was 4304 (a wonderful spot) We sat by the front pool most days and enjoyed watching all the activities. They keep the people very happy and busy with sports and games and music. If you are active , this is the spot for you. You will not be bored. The beach was clean besides the seaweed (which cannot be helped). They do their best to keep up with it , but some days it is better than others. We still had lovely beach walks along the shore everyday. The food was good , but your basic for buffet. We did not do the a la carte. The rooms were clean , our only real complaint was that the beds were very hard. The air conditioner worked great!! We enjoyed the shows in the evening also. The Barceló representatives in the front lobby can be overly aggressive , yet friendly and not take no for and answer when dealing with them. The resort is easy to walk to Play Del Carmen's famous 5th Ave and is very safe. We never had any problems when dealing with taxi's or people. Overall we had a wonderful vacation and we would recommend this resort to others.

    “Unbeatable Customer Service/Great location/Beautiful Hotel”

    I loved everything about this resort. The customer service is amazing. It seems like everybody love their jobs: room attendants, waitresses/waiters, front desk attendants, entertainment personnel, etc. It is a beautiful resort, with a private beach, with breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks all included, for an affordable price. I'm looking forward to going back next year. There's no need to look for another place to stay in Playa del Carmen.
