    “All inclusive Not really”

My family and I, my husband and 2 kids ages 10 and 4 traveled to the Barcelo for a week starting Nov. 9th I will start with the Pros; -Never had a problem with finding chairs by the pool or beach -A la Carte restaurants were surprisingly good. Especially the Seafood and Steak Restaurant -Restaurant by the pool was opened from 10:30 to 6:30 offering breakfast items when they first open. -Sergio from the Entertainment team was very fun. -Nice big pools right by the beach Cons; -Rooms are dated, first room we were given was very dirty with what looked like rust stains on the floor and it only had 1 bed for 4 people. We were given another room upon entering our new room we realized that it was still occupied. 3rd was given was a good location and had 2 beds and was clean. All good until one morning we woke up at 4:30 to the ceiling leaking right on my 4 year old. -Alcohol is not available until 11am, so no morning Mimosa’s. Pool bar does not serve alcoholic drinks until Noon. If you want a alcoholic drink you have to go to the bar in the restaurant by the pool. (Mexico recently was passed a new law regarding serving alcohol at certain times of the day. Special permits are needed to serve earlier then 11am and Barcelo chose not to apply for these permits). When on vacation one would expect to be able to have a drink poolside before Noon -Towels, only 1 location to get towels. Barcelo does not have towel cards BUT if you want to pick up towels for your family you are given a hard time they only want to hand out 1 towel at a time. They require all family members to be there not great with small children. -wifi - There is a charge for wifi, $40 for the week. I haven’t been to a resort in the last 5 plus years that charged for wifi -room service - that’s extra too -want to go bowling with the family that is extra too -water park that is extra as well. ($20/day/person) We just went to the resort next door and used their water park, no extra charge -want a ice cream at the ice cream shop? That is extra too. -Poolside drink service, almost non existent (my husband said he has never drank so little on vacation, just wasn’t always available) -Buffets not up to par

    “Heaven or hell”

There are a number of people here who seem to be slowly eating / drinking / sunbathing themselves to death. However, with careful selections at the buffet, shady loungers on the beach and a beautiful, well equipped gym, it is easy to use this place as a health farm. The beach is glorious and there are parts of the beach and times of the day when it is possible to enjoy peace and quiet. Because the buffets are so good I recommend checking out individual restaurant menus before using your vouchers to book. I really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant but the other menus couldn’t tempt me away from the buffet. There are a few optional extras. Some of the rules around spending “resort dollars” are a little unusual so please read the small print!

    “Nice Vacation”

Greetings! As a seasoned Caribbean traveler, here are my findings:The food at the buffet was ok. Typical buffet food. Some days my youngest had a hard time finding stuff to eat (he's a picky eater so not the resort's fault). Breakfast at the buffet was good but some days the service was a bit slow. Since I was alone with 3 kids, we did not try any of the a la carts. The "compound" is HUGE. Our room was at the Caribe but the water park for the kids is at the Colonial so each day we had almost a 10 minute walk to get there. There is a shuttle but during the day it takes way too many stops (mall, bowling, other resorts, etc). The pools are great. Clean and a nice temperature. The waterpark was a hit with my kids. Kept them entertained. There is a lifeguard but I wouldnt rely on them too much (water park is big and impossible to see all sides) so I kept an eye on my boys. The room was fine. Clean. The nightly entertainment wasn't too bad. The effort was there, just not my thing (Mexico night, Circus). My BIGGEST disappointment is you have to pay for wifi. When we were back at the toom, the boys wanted to use their Ipads but here is where we learned only 2 devices can be used at a time. This was a problem since 4 of us had devices to use. And to switch from one to another took hours. Its a ridiculous set up and from now on I will never go to a place with this offering (not if traveling with my kids). All in all, it was a good vacation. Still mad about the wifi, lol.

Recently stayed at maya caribe and had a wonderful time despite the rain. Had great service all around but must give a big thank you to Maria Garcia at Captain Morgan grille, she gave us excellent service on a rainy afternoon.

    “Perfect Getaway”

If you're looking for a perfect getaway with lots of options to just relax, keep busy, or be somewhere in between that, Barcelo is the place to stay. This was my second time at Barcelo Maya and I brought my partner who had never been to an all-inclusive resort before. He was hooked in two minutes. I stayed at Tropical last time but prefer Caribe because of it's location and beach. The specialty restaurants are 5*. We recommend Tokyo, La Trattoria, and Mexico Lindo (our favourite). We loved learning how to sail the Hoby catamarans, swimming with the turtles near Palace lobby, and aquafit with Brian the Mayan in the Tropical pool. We'll be back - highly recommend!
