    “Great Bartender ”

    We had about a 30 minutes wait for our dinner at Kyoto restaurant. In the front of the restaurant is a bar. We were served by Rolando C. What an amazing bartender! He made us fantastic drinks and very friendly. As much as we didn't like the 30 minute wait, he made it much better! They need him at the top bar!! Muchas Gracias Rolando!

    “Lovely hotel”

    Stayed for 14 nights, late September,early October. It was a return visit,we stayed at the same time last year. Our room was clean ,and everything worked in it. Throughout our visit the room was cleaned well and the fridge was appropriately restocked. The range of food available is broad,and tasty. We ate predominantly at the Caribe buffet,bigger range of food,very well presented. Thanks to Gilberto for looking after us so well. We had 6 a la cartes, we'd done all available last time and zeroed in on Spanish,Mexican and Fish as our extras this time and enjoyed each one. There was no issue of Sargassum on the beach this year,the workers did a fine job each day clearing what there was but as I say ,the water was predominantly clear. We were able to swim with the turtles again off the Palace beach. The staff were always smiling and helpful,. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and are even planning a return next year.

    “Barceló family vacation”

    On our first night the shower flooded our whole room Took a very long time for the front desk to send anyone check it out Only solution was to downgrade our room type from ocean view to a regular room. Finally they sent one person to clean ... the water was all over our entire room .. me and my husband ended up helping the lady move all the furniture and help dry the floors. It was late at night we had traveled all day. Once it was dried it always smelled musty in our room. We let the front desk know. They never followed up with us. Anyways we didn’t want it to ruin our vacation. The pools were excellent. The kid’s water park was great! The beaches are well maintained. The food was ok .. buffet style. The dinners we enjoyed very much with the upgraded room. Room service was a very limited menu but was nice to have. The spa was fantastic! The shows were entertaining. Overall we had a good time. The staff was friendly, the grounds were beautiful, rooms could have been a little cleaner and nicer beds.

    “Barcelo Maya Grand Resort”

    Barcelo Maya Resort is large; but we didn't find it exhaustingly large!  Easily walkable if you gave yourself the time to get to where you wanted to be.   They could do better with the map they give you; it's not very detailed but I was able to find a very nice, more detailed map online & just made sure to pull it up in our room before we set out to where we wanted to go so we could figure out the location & best route to get where we were going. Great resort for groups; everyone can book in the "level" they are comfortable with for their own budget & then meet up at the Pool or Beach area. The beach is long with soft white sand -  on a calm day the water is very clear & on a windy day it's clear-ish but has a green tone to it.As we were there in the off-season we never had trouble getting beach or pool chair spot!We absolutely loved the clean beach & pool areas!! Of the a la cartes we tried; Mexico Lindo & El Fuente were our favorites; Tokyo was good also (we are from Vancouver so we have many of this style restaurants at home; however, if it was something we didn't really have access too, it would have made the best of list!).We would NEVER return to Mare Nostrum due to the VERY rude server & poor food experience. Leo at the Colonial Buffet was AMAZING!!He always had a big, friendly smile; was always working hard & showed real genuine interest that we were having a good vacation (even if we weren't in his section)!  It was not just about the tip with Leo, he truly cared that we were enjoying our experience at Barcelo & in Mexico. The service at the Buffet & Restaurants was good; nothing spectacular or overly outstanding (other than Leo!!).  The pool bars were TERRIBLE.It took FOREVER to get a drink, even when there weren't very many people at the bar.The bartenders NEVER smiled; it seemed very evident they do not want to be there & do not want you to be there...  They were unfriendly & seemed very put out about their job.They very clearly just want you to give them tip money & go away as they do not want to be there & you are the reason they have to be there.Many times we would be waiting for them to pay attention to us and come to take our drink order standing there for 5 or more minutes & a person who looked or seemed local or at the very least a Spanish speaking patron would walk up & the bartenders would immediately walk over & help them/get them their drinks, even though you know they know you were waiting there & should be served next.  If you are "not their kind" you will be treated as such.The experience at the Pool Bars was definitely a negative one every single day of the 11 days we were there & would be the only reason we would consider not returning to this resort. Overall, for the restaurants/buffets & bars it felt like it was very much just about the tip you will give the staff - not about your experience.   We booked & paid to stay Premium Level & everytime we asked for the Premium end liquors, or purchased something that allowed us a discount because of our Premium Level booking; we had to fill out a piece of paper with Name, Signature, Room Number, Wristband Number...The wristband color indicates your booking level, so it doesn't make sense that we had to keep filling this out every time we wanted a drink; or wanted something our booking level entitled us to - it was just really annoying & inconvenient. Our Premium Level booking allowed us access to the Hydrotherapy Circuit at the SPA; however, for the full 11 days we were there 2 of the 6 parts of the circuit were out of order... We didn't ask but also no offer was made to make up for this paid for service that we didn't get to fully use any of the 11 days. The room was nice & clean; very comfy bed; we LOVED the location of our room!The fridges need to be replaced as they were not very cold at all; the drinks in the fridge we would barley describe as cold.  We were with a group of 20+ people all in various rooms in various sections of the resort & everyone felt the same about their fridge. There was a very bad mildew/mold smell when you moved the pillows; like it was coming from behind the headboard or under the bed... I've seen other reviews that people say when they walked into the room they could smell this; but for us it was only when we were in bed, relaxing or sleeping & moved the pillows around - the smell was very strong and it was kind of gross... The room was always refreshed/cleaned nicely when we left & put up please clean signage (floors cleaned, toilet/sink cleaned well); however, they did not always fully replace or restock everything that was used.I would recommend every day leaving a note to tell them EXACTLY what you want to be fully replaced or it won't happen (i.e. if we dirtied 4 towels,  many times they would only be replaced with 2 or 3 towels... Or, we made the in-room coffee & if we didn't leave a note asking for them to leave water & coffee packet again, it would not get replaced).. Not a huge deal, but when you're on vacation, and paying for Premium Level service; you shouldn't have to take the time out of your day to tell you how to use common sense to do your job. The vendors in the little outdoor-style market are A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E!!!They made it VERY unpleasant & near impossible to shop at their booths.I am someone that usually buys a lot of souvenirs for myself as well as friends & family... I bought nothing but some vanilla for myself as I was able to purchase this in the resort shops... The vendors at the little outdoor-style market on the resort will follow you around as you try to look at all the items; they harass you even if you ask them to stop & tell them that you are just looking & will call them over when you have found something you would like - they will NOT listen, they will follow close behind you & hound you....  It is the most unpleasant experience & caused me to leave and actually buy nothing from them. We did not do any excursions off Resort this time; but we did go to Coco Bongo - if you have never been to Coco Bongo - GO!!! JUST GO!!!I was not going to join the group of friends that was going, as I am generally not a nightclub person... I am SO GLAD I went & will make this an event anytime I return to Mexico!! It was so much more than just a nightclub! It was one of the best, most fun nights!It is however, VERY packed with people; so if you do not like A LOT of people/ VERY LARGE crowds, or LOUD music it would not be the thing for you. Overall, we will return to Barcelo - alone or with groups -as it was a really great first experience with Mexico & we would recommend the resort to family & friends!

    “Experience”

    Careful with the restaurant that offer reservation. Is not that great however food is good. Service is bad. You really want to get a great attitude especially since you are all dress up for the event.
