    “Excellent visit. ”

    Our first time to the area. Loved the resort! Food was very good. Really appreciated the fact we could book excursions in the hotel for a wide variety of day trips. Staff was very good. Very friendly and helpful. Loved the beach. Actually could not find a single thing about this place I didn’t enjoy. My only warning has nothing to do with the resort, it’s with the neighbours. This resort is right next door to the Hard Rock, and every night we were here there was an outdoor concert. Loud. Mostly mediocre cover bands. Thankfully they usually wrapped by 10:30. However, if you like to turn in early... hard to do so with the music blaring. I love music. But I have to admit by day 4 it got annoying. Don’t let it ruin things for you. After they stop playing, the sound of the ocean is that much better.

    “An almost great experience...”

    My wife and I booked Occidental based on several positive reviews of this all inclusive resort. For the most part the experience was pretty good. We got mostly consistent service in a few areas, the resort was well kept/maintained, and staff were friendly and ready to please. We appreciated the intimate setting (the resort is on the smaller side, but this was appreciated), and the food was quite good (compared to several other resorts we have been to). However, there were a few negatives: 1) Construction of a new wing. We were not informed by the resort (vs. other guests) that construction was going to occur in close proximity of the Royal Club area. As such, we and other guests were subjected to constant hammering, jackhammering and sawing noises that disrupted the peacefulness we were looking for. Some guests we talked to were informed via an email, however, we were not. 2) Level of service was not consistent in all areas. Service was quite good at front reception, concierge, pool bars and cabanas. However, the service at the restaurants left something to be desired. It seemed as though there were not enough trained staff to serve guests in food areas. 3) The Royal Club. We paid extra to receive the perks of this supposedly top notch service. However, on my father in laws birthday, we did not get served our appetizers until approximately 30-45 minutes after we sat down for our dinner reservation at 7:00PM. Entrees were served at 9:00PM, 2 hours later! We have 2 small children, and one was falling asleep before our main dishes were served. My wife had to leave to put her to bed. And when our entrees were served, 3 of the 4 were lukewarm to cold. To be fair, the front of house were excellent and profusely apologized to us and tried to make it up to us. I suspected (formerly being in the catering business) that the back of house (kitchen) had major issues with the cooking and timing of food. Given this we all just left hungry (lost our appetites) and went to the buffet for dessert. I did mention our displeasure to the Operations Manager (Eliana) and she was very apologetic and accommodating. She constantly apologized and we ended up negotiating some compensation that met our needs and which was to our satisfaction. Negative aspects aside, we did appreciate several staff who went out of their way to serve us. A big thanks to Daisy at Spa Wellness for a great hot stone massage. And an even bigger thanks to Luis Robles, Maria and Agustin at the Royal Club Pool Bar/Cabanas who were spot on in serving us our drinks in a timely manner. They were super friendly and always had a smile on their faces. Overall, we would still come back to Occidental given that the positives did outweigh the negatives. Hopefully management will read this review and endeavour to make some changes to improve their service level in all facets of the resort. Thank you to those Occidental staff who did make our stay enjoyable!

    “Amazing visit, beautiful location and wonderful staff”

    I'd like to recognize Erik from the poolside bar for taking care of us during our trip. He was very friendly from the moment we got there. He made sure we were looked after every day. The entire staff at the resort was very outgoing and friendly. I would gladly return here.

    “good value”

    this is my 4th time at this hotel. it is a good value overall Good clean room. Quite. maybe the variety of food could improve and certainly the beverage is too water down but I understand ( coming from a not big drinker). I would go back however. We enjoyed specifically our long walk on that beautiful beach stretching all the way to Buceria and catching the bus to go for daily trips to Buceria and Sayulita (great place to visit for a day)
