    “Lovely location excellent beach nice hotel!”

    This is a lovely hotel in a great location near a beautiful beach with lots of bars and restaurants close by. We stayed here for 2 weeks. Our room was deluxe twin with seaview & balcony. The room was pleasant deluxe no. No seaview unless we climbed onto our balcony which we had paid considerably a large supplement £450+. Our daughter was in a standard room which was just as good but with enclosed bathroom overlooking a small Road but a better seaview. I discussed this with the Rep who gave some sort of crazy explanation that if you want a full seaview you have to book an oceanfront room, she did offer to look for another room but looking at the hotel I don't think any room could have a proper seaview. The food on the first week (smoke salmon for breakfast every morning disappeared week 2) was very good, but as we went into our second week which was away from school holidays and peak period the food declined considerably so we ate out more at lunch times and evenings. The BBQ suddenly stopped on a nightly basis and appeared only at the weekend but no notice was given on week one about this. Drinks were good we were all inclusive, most of the staff were very pleasant with a few exceptions. Animation team pleasant although we didn't join in and they don't hassle you. Entertainment was very good sometimes poor other times. The dancing was boring with the main bar being closed so you had nowhere else to go and drink but outside near the pool. The marina is a pleasant walk either on the beach or a good path all the way, lots of beach bars and restaurants on the way. Lovely fishing village over the bridge at the marina with traditional fish restaurants. The main town is lovely with bus stop across the road from the hotel but on our return journeys no buses turned up so we had to get taxis approximately 10 euros. So this is a nice hotel which needs to address a few problems. We will definitely go back to this area in the future, this is a lovely traditional Spanish resort which hasn't been commercialised, but we will probably choose another hotel.

    “Hotel Barcelo Isla Canela”

    Recently returned from a week's holiday. Very pleased with the hotel and staff. The outside pool was cold and music too loud and the inside pool did not appear to be cleaned regularly. With perfect weather we enjoyed our holiday very much. Thank you to all the staff who work so hard and were very friendly and helpful at all times.

    “10 days of sunshine”

    Stayed here early September for 10 nights we based our reason to choose here based on reviews read on Tripadvisor and description in holiday brochure. On arrival at the hotel the coach has to drop you off at the gate because it's too big to get into the gate. There are no porters so you have to carry your cases up to the hotel, all good and well if you're physically able but if you have limited mobility it's a nightmare. Booking in was relatively painless AI wristbands attached was told there was a cold meal and drinks laid on. The cold meal consisted of a few cold meats, cheese,full prawns (shells on)and a breaded rissole type thing, bottle of water. Not very appetising at 01.30 am. We then had to locate our room based on the minimal directions given, this was of course difficult due to not having been before. The room was a good size and I must admit the beds very comfortable, the room did have air con although it is preset to minimum output but did cool the room. There was also a safe which cost €3 per day (usually free in all other AI hotels we've stayed in) and a mini bar/fridge which did not get replaced with either water or cans of coke etc once used. Breakfast time was the usual AI buffet affair which is like entering a different reality, namely the zombie apocalypse. People wandering about aimlessly with half full plates looking for something else to devour ( this is not just limited to this hotel it happens at all I've been too) I can understand new arrivals looking round at what and mainly where things are located but after the first time it's easy because everything is in the same place, they don't move things round. This however doesn't stop the same people wandering aimlessly every meal time. The choice at all meal times is impressive catering for every palate, however the quality of some of the produce is questionable. Some of the meat was tough and tasteless, vegetables where usually tasty but dripping in grease as where some of the potatoes. The mashed potato was a joke it had the appearance and texture of semolina totally inedible. For the first 7 days the chips where excellent being proper hand cut chips however for some reason they started using frozen French fry type chips which of course were not of the same quality. I've read reviews on here regarding the well manicured gardens a cleanliness of the pool area. In my opinion and based on years of visiting other AI 3,4 and 5 star hotels this one rates as poor. The pool area should be washed down every morning as should the sun beds, if done early enough they will be dry and usable when people start arriving. During our 10 days there was no manicuring of any of the trees or plants other hotels have staff continually trimming and pruning throughout the day. Animation team was the standard type of teams found in other hotels namely boisterous, loud and at times irritating but others appeared to enjoy them. Other entertainment offered in the evening was also questionable but again others enjoyed it. Whilst on about evenings there are only two bars, the pool bar/snack bar and the Lobby bar. Pool bar open approx 10.30am to 08.00 pm and Lobby bar open 08.00pm to approx midnight. However this depends on what entertainment is on. We had to endure a acrobatic type of dance show at the pool bar area because that was the only bar open, the Lobby bar was not, I presume due to not enough staff. This hotel needs to understand that not every wants entertaining at night but would like a nice area to sit drink and chat. So to sum up this hotel. Pros are - comfy beds, good WiFi, good chips(for 7days), ability to get sun beds . Cons - no porters, complicated AI system (which does not include some things you would expect), not enough staff causing problems such as limited bar openings , clearing of tables in dining room , limited maintenance etc I could go on but will stop at that. Overall this hotel is at best a 3 star pertaining to be a 4 star in my experience having stayed in all star rated hotels throughout the world this needs a few tweaks, namely by looking at other 4 star rated hotels and seeing what they offer, it would then be rated as good.

    “Second stay even better ”

    This was our second visit to this Barcelo hotel. It is the only hotel we have returned to, usually preferring to try a variety of chains/areas. The staff were amazing and the surroundings were as we remembered them. If it was possible, the food was even better this time! We were All Inclusive again and only missed one restaurant meal, although we were provided with a generous picnic lunch for our trip to Seville. Rooms a good size with lots of storage space and a bathroom with a large shower- all immaculately cleaned daily. Lots to do in the hotel with the animation staff being encouraging but not pushy. Evening shows every night between 10-11pm which were of a good standard. Large, clean beach just over a quiet road and a short walk to the bus stop where you can get a bus into the town of Ayamonte for €1.30. We are planning a third visit, probably next year.

    “Rest, rest, rest”

    We booked this hotel initially because we loved the look of it. It lived up to what we thought. Loved our room, the beds are soooo comfortable, memory foam or something similar on top of mattress. The shower I wanted to bring home with us, amazing! Enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings with live music on some evenings. What I would say is that the area was too remote for us, needed more to do. Therefore went to Seville on an excursion, and also visited Ayamonte quite often and took the ferry over to Portugal. I would recommend this hotel for a week, or ten days at the most.
