    “Pool, beach, activites, room amazing! Food - whoa it's gone downhill!”

    Repeat visitor... We had a great week of weather - so we were busy doing activities around the pool and resort as always. Paddle ball, snorkelling, water polo, aquafit, sports bar, swimming in the sea, walking the beach. All great! Upgraded to premium so we enjoyed the poolfront room with extra space. Better tequila is a huge plus because their house liquor is horrible. The aquatherapy circuit at the spa was wonderful and a huge perk of premium. Getting a la carte restaurants was a nightmare. The new Adult all inclusive section has taken over the resort. Even with premium, getting in to restaurants was a joke of a process. Now - on to the food. Except for the Italian restaurant, I felt like the food was average at best, and often terrible. The breakfasts...awesome. The beach buffets have gone downhill - no fresh tacos, the chicken wings were rubbery, the soups kind of nasty. But the a la cartes is where it really fell down. Even at Brasserie, where we paid extra for a different experience, the food was sub par. They just can't cook beef! Unfortunately, I think we might look elsewhere for our vacation next time. Somewhere with better food, more activities in the evening, better front desk service. ps - the rest of the staff were, as always, hard working and accommodating.

    “Girls trip”

    “Octavio Medrano - outstanding bellman at Barcelo Maya Colonial”

    All of the staff at the Barcelo Maya Colonial are great, but Octavio consistently went the extra mile to make sure Chris and I had an outstanding vacation. My wife is recovering from recent total knee replacement surgery and with the expansive size of the Barcelo Maya resort this vacation could have been a disaster. Octavio came to the rescue, anticipated our needs and showed up each and every time with much needed transportation around the resort. In addition, he is extremely kind and fun to talk to.     “Amazing beach but improvement is needed in operations”

    Happy Holidays! We returned from Barcelo yesterday, and I thought I'd offer a review. The purpose of this post is not to open any kind of controversy, so please take it as our opinion. We go to all inclusive resorts twice a year, probably 8 have been in Riviera Maya, similar star rating resorts. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids 8 and 12. Beach. Our absolute favourite. Shallow water, amazing snorkelling, and gorgeous palm trees. We had previously gone to Grand Bahia and cannot even compare. Grounds. Well kept, great vegetation, great flow. We could easily find each other if one was at the pool, other at lobby, etc. Staff and service. Again, amazing. Front line staff at restaurants and pool bars are great. Room service, maids, laundry every time went an extra mile to make us happy and meet our needs. Buffets. Food is OK. Yes, lots of selection, but it is just OK. Was hoping to see empanadas, better quality guacamole, and just more variety. We barely ate at the buffet and mostly at beach restaurants - much better flavor and a la cartes. We also found room service food and Strikers a great option to break up the pattern. A LA cartes. Amazing food and service every time. In fact, first resort that we found a la cartes to be so different than buffet. We tried italian at the mall, Brasilian, Santa Fe, etc. If you are not at Palace, but are a foody, spent the extra $ and try their a la carte. Rooms. We got a king, a sofa that was perfect a kid, and a roll away bed for the other child. Now, this was a battle. This is a major negative. A resort of this size, and priced, let's say well above 'I don't care where I sleep because I'm in paradise', has no business taking reservations for certain needed arrangements, and then MAYBE accommodating them. At this level, with 3000-4000 rooms, if one needs a king size bed or two doubles, it should be honoured. Not honoring, or placing people into rooms that do not work, is simply lack of organization and poor management. I do not care how many palm trees and fish the beach has, for some of us, especially with kids, room arrangements are a deal breaker. Trips. We went to Xplor and it was amazing, but you better be adventurous, those zip lines are something else. Great experience, a must try! Premium VS non premium. We did no premium last time and premium this time. Our premium room location in Jalisco alone was worth a ton. Facing the pool and the ocean and being able to see each other when some went to pool and others stayed in the room was great. We traveled with two kids and room service was a great hit. We had breakfast on the patio every morning and often a late night burger with a beer listening to waves! Premium drinks were nothing exciting, as EVERY tequila on premium menu was unavailable. In a brief summary, this resort has one of the best beaches, great front line staff, amazing mall if you have kids, but management/reception unwillingness to cooperate and meet customer needs may just be a deal breaker. This was unfortunately evident throughout our trip from check in to check out.

    “Něco se změnilo...”

    Jezdíval jsem do tohoto letoviska v posledních 3 letech a nikdy jsem neměl žádné stížnosti. Až do mojí poslední návštěvy. Ve svých restauracích a barech vypnuli klimatizaci. První den nám řekli, že je to technický problém, ale nic se nezměnilo po celý týden našeho pobytu.
