    “Lovely hotel in convenient location”

    We stayed in the Barcello Hamilton in early July. The external photo does not really do the building justice - it's a lot more attractive in real life. The pool is of adequate size, but the main attraction particulary for the younger clientelle were the hot tubs on the roof terrace. This area got the sun all day long whereas the pool area offered more shade. Plenty of free sunbeds. You can hire a towel which is free but you pay a 20euro refundable deposit. The location of the hotel suited us perfectly. It's a short walk (10 min stroll) on to the little harbour of Es Castell. There are a variety of very nice restuarants offering the usual Spanish fare. A 1L jug of Sangria costing around 15 euros, steaks 18+ euros, chicken 12 euros, salads in the region of 5-9 euros, crepes (sweet and savoury around the 10 euros). Food is cheaper in the back streets but we enjoyed the harbour views. Mahon is within walking distance although perhaps not if one is dressed up for the evening. It's along a main road so not so pretty. We took taxis which cost anything between 6 eurios and 12 euros and we never could figure out why the big difference (nothing to do with after midnight, or where we caught the cab). The local bus is just 1.65 euros one way and this goes every 30 mins from a bus stop just 5 mins from the hotel. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were excellent. A very varied selection of fresh fruit, pastries, cooked breakfasts - bacon, sausage, eggs etc etc ,and also pancakes, bread etc. Breaksfast is from 8-11am. No complaints at all. Other guests we met were staying all inclusive but as there is so much choice so close by, we didnt see the point in this option - personal choice however. It should be noted that some drinks and poolside snacks were not included in the all inclusive price - guest had to pay 50% of the price. The hotel was very clean, entertainment was laid on most evenings, but did not go on too late to upset those of us who like to retire early. There was a daily demo on the poolside of how to make a cocktail, or guests were invited to take part in pool aerobics or yoga. Don't be put off by this comment, as this was all very low-key and only lasted 15 mins or so. I don't really enjoy this sort of thing but even I took part in the aqua aerobics. Wifi was free and was pretty good. TV in the room had a clear picture and the usual range of channels you would expect. Air con was free, very controllable and not at all noisy. On the downside, the bedrooms, whilst very modern, are pokey - ours was a superior room with a seaview (the std rooms have no balcony). There is little privacy as there is no solid wall between toilet/shower and bed part of the room. As there is no extractor fan in the toilet to conceal the inevitable noises, one can feel a little embarrased ! Space is so limited I had to put my empty suitcase under the bed as there was nowhere else for it. There were coffee/tea making facilities which we welcomed. However, the maid was very frugal with the coffee sachets. Just 2 per day. I had to ask on 3 separate occasions for extra as we like a coffee before breakfast and one at bedtime. There was a safe but it was at a cost of 5 euros a day and a 30 euro deposit. Not sure what the deposit was for as I was hardly likely to run off with it! Room choices - We were on the first floor so the rooms are in the 100s, 2nd floor are 200s etc. 110-114 have no balcony, 102-109 overlook the glass roof of the lobby which spoils the view a little (higher floors will have a better view), 115-124 are above the restaurant which has an outside area - this might be noisy at breakfast time. Rooms 133-141 overlook the pool. Because the hotel is on the estuary, having a sea view room meant you could sit watching the huge passenger and cargo boats going past as well as the many fantastic yachts - much better than a beach/sea view in my opinion.

    “Superb location”

    A good hotel in a superb location. We stayed B&B for a week. The hotel is very clean with excellent friendly staff. Good selection of food for breakfast.. Rooms are a little on the small side. Would recommend a room with a sea view. We were on the first floor. This was OK but next time I would ask to be on a higher floor.

Room was pretty small, didn't like how you needed to pay for a safe key (this just seems like opportunism to make more money) and should provide free water. Amazing view from the room though and decent enough shower. Breakfast was good, nice selection and food we did order was nice but room service stops way too early. Did not appreciate that we had to give an additional deposit for a pool towel (as considered we were paying enough per night!) and the reception staff seemed overwhelmed, leading to quite long delays in trying to get anything done. Rooftop bar was great, with an excellent selection of gins and cocktails although again not enough staff. Overall a reasonable stay, but expected better from what i had seen online and what is advertised.

    “All inclusive adults”

    The superior room wasn't that superior,a little on the small side as was the pool. Its situation by the river gave loads of sight seeing over meals watching the boats go by. But that was really the extent of the local entertainment. Other than the walk down to local fish restaurants. No real bars local other than climbing the hills into narrow streets with rather steep hills. All inclusive wasn't that inclusive with extra hidden charges even for coffees. Charges for pool towels and charges to change towels after a weeks use and each time you wanted fresh. All drinks on roof bar had to be paid for. What's with. Coming around every evening with a coffee trolley pestering when everyone is getting showered and ready for evening meals. I keep getting caught naked in my room. Woman even tried to open the door with me standing behind it starkers. Not even s towel on. Coffees should be done as part of room clean. Not of an evening when everyone in the shower. Get a grip. Food wasn't hot and not best variety especially at lunch. I went with Thomas cook. But did not see a rep in the hotel for the whole 2weeks. Not even a welcome meeting to familiarise us with the hotel and locality and clear all inclusive anomalies. Holiday was ok but not good enough for me to consider going back. I diff expect more from Thomas cook and a Barcelo hotel.

    “Very disappointed....”

    we were very disappointed with our stay. However, we will start with the positives! Great location with stunning views and the hotel is clean and tidy. But the negatives are the unfriendly welcome, hidden charges for pool towels, safe and safe key, tea and coffee, water and car parking. We booked a hol day on a HB basis and ended up eating out every night as the evening food was cold and we saw food such as shellfish being reheated. We raised our concerns with the guest relations manager but our complaint was not taken seriously despite other hotel guests raising their own coencerns about the cold food. The evening entertainment is extremely poor. The gym facilities do not provide water as the water dispenser is visible but locked behind a glass door and if you require water for the gym you are charged for this. The hotel seems to be run by accountants due to all the charges and lack of customer service by management and reception staff. We will not be revisiting.

As for your comment about the entertainment, we regret that you could not enjoy it as you would have liked. However, we offer a different program every day and night to enjoy our guests. We will take your comments into account in order to make possible future changes in the future. With respect to the water of the fitness center, we facilitate this product in the center of U Wellness, right next to where the fitness center is.
