    “Nice hotel but too heavy on pushing sales”

    The hotel was ok. The arrival was a little disorganised and we had to spend 3 hours waiting to be checked in. The room had recently been refurbished and was done to a very nice standard however, there were little finishing off bits that hadn't been completed so detracted from the overall aesthetic of the room and bathroom. The food was really good for a buffet restaurant and the meals in the pre-book speciality restaurants were also of a high quality. The waiting staff were polite and all too eager to please. The beach was nice although very busy so we found ourselves chilling out by the quieter poolsides. The only real negative I could find was the pushy sales people stationed at the foot of the stairs in each room block. It did get to the point where I had to be quite rude and to the point in Spanish for the gentleman to get the point that I didn't want to be repeatedly harassed daily. It seemed a polite "no thank you" wasn't sufficient.

    “More like one star than 5 and insulting treatment”

    I will never stay here again! I went to Punta Cana for the first time for a fishing holiday and made the mistake of choosing the cheapest deal on the Very Chic website - it was a major mistake!! The fishing was great - the hotel was appalling! Never again will I go here even if some of the junior staff are friendly and try their best. Anyone with authority was abrupt, treated me with total distain and blamed their decision on someone higher than them - who was "unavailable" after making the decision. All inclusive!?- Only if you have the right coloured rubber wristband (what genuine 5 star hotel identifies guests in this way anyway?) The colour of your wristband is all important!! I arrived in the evening in transport arranged by the hotel company - although after telephoning them from Switzerland and being transferred to someone else 4 times I was finally told I had to order a transfer by email!? I reluctantly did that and am still waiting to see how much the phone calls cost me. 5 star treatment? Despite check in time being given as 3 pm I was told at 7 pm my room was not available and I should wait. I explained I had been travelling for over 20 hours from Switzerland and their website assured me I could check in at 3 pm. After discussions by reception staff, out of my sight, presumably with their supervisor, I was finally given a room. Although matching the description on my booking documents in room size and facilities the room was in a building classed as "club"- but my wristband did not have the correct colour for such a room. This caused me considerable later embarassment - I was refused service and questioned at the beach bar reserved for those in the club section - " all-inclusive" means you cannot pay for anything not covered - you are told this is not for your wristband colour - "Go away to the lesser facilities for your colour wristband" I was told. Even more embarassing was my attempt to leave the restaurant where I had signed for a special lobster dinner. To get there I had booked at the reception where my room number and name had been checked and I was given a printed ticket with the time i had to sign this and a copy for the hotel, I gave this signed ticket to the restaurant "manager". However after signing the bill to the room at the end of the meal he blocked my departure and demanded to see and make a note of the number on my wristband as he did not believe I had given the correct name and room number!! Highly embarassing to be treated like this infront of other clients. I was so angry I forgot to demand the return of the significant cash tip I had left!!! Goodness knows what would have happened if I had tried to use facilities and beach bar reserved for those in the "Royal" section. I have never ever had to pay for wireless internet connection previously - even in a hotel where I am booked accomodation only! All Inclusive 5 stars!!???? I had to pay over 100 USD simply to connect my phone! The buffet restaurant served a reasonably good and extensive breakfast. However the dinners most evenings were almost inedible in this restaurant - the epitomy of overcooked but often cold inedible dishes in massive amounts. There were other restaurants available that with the exception of the weekly lobster special were included in the all inclusive (even with my blue band) but they had to be booked that day between late morning and 4 pm on the day in question. Unfortunately most days I was leaving before 6 am to go fishing so was unable to book them! I did manage over the two weeks to eat in the steakhouse, the seafood restaurant and the asian restaurant. The food and service in all 3 were superb - like being in a much better hotel!?! More complaints?! Of course!! On checking into my room I discovered the next morning that the large doors leading to the terrace were broken and could not be locked - a major security risk given I was in a ground floor room! The TV was also broken. Both problems were fixed relatively quickly with a different tv fitted and the doors repaired the same day I complained. However the air conditioning was broken and totally unusable over my last 4 days despite numerous complaints. I was finally told at 10:00pm it would be fixed at 1:30 am the next morning and unless I moved room there and then I would have to get up and allow access for the workmen..............I chose to move but it was only with the extensive help of a friendly and great bellboy - who also drives the golf carts to get around the enormous grounds of the hotel that I was able to do this given various medical problems I have.................. Then there was check out! When I attempted to arrange a late checkout and pay for it - as prominently displayed in the room information - and i assume this was why my booked room had been unavailable on my arrival I was told no we are full that night so we can give you a free 30 minutes only! On leaving I paid for all my extras on a credit card, fed in my pin number and was then required to sign the payment slip and several other papers. When I was asked why I was told "because that is how we do it - sign them all or we will not give you the form to allow you to leave the hotel grounds with your luggage!" So you are trapped on the property until they decide to give you written permission to leave!! " Incidently it is a long hot and sticky walk to get off the property when wanting to see the nearby surroundings and the shops on the premises have prices varying from expensive to extortionate to downright robbery. Buy high quality rum from supermarkets in the town or from "Liquor Mart." at less than a thrid of the prices demanded here. Bargain like mad for anything else in the other shops and note that there is no price tags on anything! The only good thing about this place was the junior staff. Servers in the lobby bar were great! Always smiling and quick and helpful! Likewise the bellboys to help carry things and take you back to the room in a golf cart. many thanks to you all! Sorry but because of the rest of the experience I will never visit this hotel again!!

    “Retirement and Graduation celebration”

    We stayed in the superior royal level all inclusive. Had a great room with a view of the ocean. The staff in the Royal area is top notch. Diana , Dayanara, Jose in the Royal lobby as well as Zolanlly and Melina were very helpful. Samuel and his crew in the Royal restaurant were great and took care of us, the food there was delicious. The mixologist in the Royal bar paid attention to what you ordered and made sure you got what you wanted. The rest of the resort restaurants could use some help they were mediocre, except the beach buffet. Overall beautiful, clean, safe resort

    “Occidental”

    Had a wonderful time at the resort even with the language barrier in some instances. We loved the location on the beach as my family likes to just enjoy the surroundings of the resort when we do all inclusives. It's our time to slow down and have time together!! We wanted to upgrade to the Royal club room when we got there but we were told no rooms were available. However, we were told that since no Royal club room was available they would put us in the best regular room they had and allow us to upgrade to the Royal Club amenities, which we did. The experience in the Royal Club was AWESOME!! One piece of advice, TIP!!! We were always given great treatment as the staff works 15-18hrs/day. Carmen at the Royal Club Beach Bar was awesome and a very great person!! She really loves her job and you can see it!! Nordy Reynoso at the lobby bar was awesome as well. He made sure that everytime he saw me and my wife that we had the drinks that we liked!! We would definitely return but would love to actually stay in the Royal Club room!!!

    “THE BEST HOTEL I’VE EVER BEEN TO!”

    I just came back from Occidental Punta Cana and I can definitely say that it is the best hotel I’ve ever seen, I will recommend it to everyone. First of all we bought Royal Level option, so we had another reception and restaurant, pool and bars which were only for us. The staff is really friendly and professional in what they do, man from our reception told us everything about hotel, he recommended us lot of things... and its not a problem to communicate in English with them! Now our restaurant... EXCELLENT!!! I’ve never eaten as much delicious food as they serve! Every day we got a new menu with another wonderful dishes! Cream soups were my favourite! Also chicken, desserts, everything. There is a big choice of alcohol so everyone will find what they want to drink. Waiters are the best people I’ve ever met! They were always happy, they were singing and made really great atmosphere to make us feel so good! Room in our option was really big, comfortable and has everything people need while on holiday. There is really big bed, TV, wardrobe with bathrobes, slippers, free safe! We also had microwave and coffee set and snacks! Our minibar was refilled everyday and rooms were cleaned! In the bathroom you have everything! Shampoo, hair conditioner, shower gel and another basic things such as shaving kit! On our balcony we had our own jacuzzi and wonderful view! Pool in royal option was so great! It was like big jaccuzi where we could sit all day and waiters from restaurant which was so close to the pool always brought some drinks! The beach in the hotel looks like you are in paradise! It is beautiful, wide, but the only downside is a million seaweed:( We also had a separate vip zone on the beach, where we had our own bar with a large selection of alcohol! In the morning and later in the afternoon there is a big selection of activites with wonderful animation team! Such as stretching in the morning, darts, yenga, step aerobic, zumba, aqua aerobic, volleyball, boccia and everyday another crazy game😂 my favourite part of activities was dancing! I learned how to dance salsa and bachata which is soo good! Our favorite animators were of course our crazy boy José who made us happy every day and we could talk with him all the time about everything, he does not pretend to be someone he is not, he is a very nice and beloved person!!! And as we saw he does his job with passion! Alejandro, crazy man! He sings and dances so good like professional! He always wanted to dance with us (his family from Poland) and he is our true friend who is really kind person! He always wants to make guests happy. And our sweet girl Yoemily, we really liked to spend time with her and talk, she is always ready to help you and thanks to her every day was better and cheerful. We will definitely come back as soon as possible to meet with our favorite people and spend time with our paradise! So if you are wondering if you should choose this hotel you shouldn’t have any doubts now!
