The Barceló Emperatriz hotel is the result of an ambitious co-creation project involving more than 1,500 contributions sent by guests and important personalities, one of which has been selected as the winning idea: an art gallery with permanent and temporary exhibitions, creating a meeting point for art enthusiasts. 

The aim of this co-creation idea was to redesign all the processes that come together when a person spends a night at a particular hotel. From the moment they start to investigate the destination and its hotels, until they check in to the hotel, the services they demand when they stay there and even after their experience. 

A hotel worthy of its new guests who are well-travelled and require attention to detail. This is especially important for the Barceló Emperatriz, a hotel as visionary at detecting new travel trends as the icon from whom it takes its name: Eugenia de Montijo. 

How did the project start?

When the chain notified Sara Ramis, Marketing Director for Barceló Hotels & Resorts, that the hotel selected in Madrid would be the Emperatriz, she decided to create a professional women and leaders club so that they could contribute ideas to this old hotel's refurbishment project. 

The goal of the 21st-century Empresses' Club is to create a special, unique hotel with distinctive experiences, some of which have been suggested by guests themselves. That is the key to a co-creation project.

Said and done. Two intense days of work to imagine what the ideal hotel would be like with women in very different professional fields, of different nationalities and different interests but with one thing in common: a love of and need for travel.

It’s essential to take a walk along the famous streets of the Golden Mile, amongst which the Serrano and Ortega y Gasset shopping streets stand out, where the most luxurious brands are located or enjoy the beautiful architecture, with some of the most emblematic buildings of the beginning of the 19th century. 

As well as being one of the most sought-after areas to live in, the traditional Salamanca neighbourhood is very comfortable to travel through, with streets such as Goya and Velázquez which are worth stopping at, as well as having the WiZink Center, a concert venue that hosts all types of international artists and is the home of Real Madrid Basketball and Students' Club. 

The Salamanca neighbourhood has an excellent selection of museums, allowing you choose from the offerings of the National Archaeological Museum, the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, Casa de America, Juan March Foundation, National Library Museum, the National Mint and the Manuel Benedito Foundation. Its cultural options are also reflected in the relevant line-up of business schools it houses, such as the outstanding Instituto de Empresa, IE University, IE Business School, as well as various embassies, most notably the United States Embassy. 

Next to the Paseo de Recoletos, the Paseo de la Castellana and Alcalá street is the heart of the Salamanca neighbourhood, which you'll find in any travel guide with the highlights of the city of Madrid.
