    “Mostly good but food bad”

    There were 3 adults in our group. They upgraded us for free to a larger room that actually had an upstairs loft with an additional bathroom which was nice. We were in building 8 which is on the golf course and about a 5 min walk to the main building. There is a trolly that you can take that comes by every so often but walking seemed faster. The room was clean and had a mini fridge with water and some sodas. The water was replaced daily which was nice. Only downside was no view of the water. The grounds are large. There are 2 buffets, something like 8 restaurants, a casino, bowling, shopping area that is like a little mall, spa, gym, several pools, beach, and theatre with themed dance performances every night at 10pm. The performances were decent and pretty entertaining The beach is very clean, white sand, lots of lounge chairs, and no people trying to sell you anything. However no drink service on the beach, you have to walk to the pool bar. They have kayaks and stand up paddle you can use as well. The pool area is clean as well, nice area. The staff was all friendly (except for one concierge person in the mini lobby over by the golf course that was always irritated and rude). It definitely helps to speak Spanish, I noticed the staff were much more chatty and helpful if you spoke some Spanish. Cons: WIFI is around $12/day. Or you can go to the casino for free wifi The food: at most 2/5 stars. It was all bland, nothing authentic or creative, it all tasted the same, quality was not good. Navigating food allergies can be challenging but it definitely helped to speak Spanish yet again. The buffets are open all day, nothing special. The restaurants are open for dinner only, which you need to make reservation for. We dined at Japanese (it was like a Beni-hanas), Mexican, Golf course restaurant, and Steak house. The Japanese and Mexican were fine and we got great service here but the steak house and golf course restaurant I would not return to, the food was not good, additionally the service at the golf course restaurant was super slow.

    “Nice layout but”

    Nice layout of a well maintained facility with many rooms of beach and water views. The beach is nice white powdery sand, plenty of chairs and seaweed is removed in the mornings. There are many water activities of, kayak, paddle boats, small sail boats, etc. There is no service of drinks or food on the beach or pools either. Holiday music was a nice touch. Along with the excellent lighting at night made for a nice atmosphere. The shuttle train service was excellent, never waited much longer than 5 minutes. I heard great things about the golf course layout and it looked like a well maintained course. Pools layout were fine but I could not get towels for either adult or palace pool, lack of English hindered understanding why. Bar services were excellent even during busy times. Most employees are not welcoming with any greetings. Room layout of Junior suite was well done but missing lights hindered wife's morning make-up process. Hot tub and patio was nice. TV provided 11 English channels. Yellow towels were provided, for beach ?, but not every day. On the no towel days we went to pools maybe leading to problem noted above. ??? Even though we kept patio door closed mosquitoes inside room were annoying. Noticed maid service left sliding door opened while cleaning hot tub and patio and along with open hallway door created a bug entry friendly airflow. Restaurant layout was nice, various buffets along beach and about 10 - 12 restaurants clustered in one area. Men must wear long pants but women can wear short shorts. Must make reservations at guest services and arrive with a ticket, difficult to do by phone. Main lobby layout was nice with upper level for arrival and lower level for departure. Checking in took about 30 - 45 minutes for premium, long compared to other resorts I've visited. This place was about 20 minutes from Punta Cana airport. In summary premium level provided a small suite with a beach ocean view, worth it. The layout of the entire complex was well done but overall experience short of excellent.

    “Terrible food. Terrible Service. STAY AWAY. ROOM KEYS ARE $3”

    I stayed at barcelo bavaro palace not by choice but for a wedding. I was here for a week nov 23-dec 1. The location itself is pretty close to the airport only 15 minute taxi ride. Checking in was a nightmare. There was a line of 10 people ahead of me and only 3 people working the check in desk. Each person would take at least 15-20 minutes to check in. The food is absolutely terrible at this resort. At the buffets the description/name of the food did not match what was actually being served for at least 20% of the dishes. The food did not look good and of course did not taste good. There were lots of flies buzzing around as well. And once you take a seat, it is incredibly difficult to get anyones attention to get you cutlery. The service is garbage and nobody speaks english. I understand that you cant expect every country to speak your language, but for a resort that caters to a large american and canadian clientelle, you would think the employees would have some basic understanding of the english language. There were lots of visitors from russia as well and im sure the employees do not understand russian either. If you lose your room key, you have to pay $3 for a new one. If you do not return the room key at the end of your stay, you have to pay $3. Not a whole lot of money, but really? The beach is nice, the pools are great, and the facilities were kept pretty clean, but I would never go back and never recommend to anyone.

    “Attention people with allergies!!!!!!!!!”

    We just came back from this hotel and I can say: "Be careful if you have allergies"!!!!! My 5 year old is very allergic to fish, nuts and eggs. During our dinner on the second day after our arrival my son took some chicken nuggets in the kids' section which turned out to be FISH nuggets. Luckily he just touched the nuggets, otherwise the consequences could have been horrible. As the nuggets were very hot my husband split one for him; this is when we realized it wasn't chicken but fish. I've called the supervisor and showed him the nuggets, cooks were called, and after examination they have confirmed that by mistake instead of chicken nuggets, fish nuggets were put and labeled as chicken nuggets. Our room number was taken and we were advised that someone would contact us, but in reality no one even tried to do anything. Couple of days later I met the manager myself, it seemed that he was not aware of the incident, but told me the same thing that he would look into the matter and will get hold of us. The way the matter was handled showed to us that no one really cared and that we could expect anything, it turned out to be not a real vacation as we didn't' know what else to expect - what if someone left a piece of nut in a cookie that is not supposed to have nuts, or what if someone fried pancakes on the same top/pan where eggs were fried? I was really amazed by the way such a serious matter was handled. This was our 3rd time going to this place and I doubt that we'll ever go there again. Just to comment on my selection of the service: the service at the buffet is horrible - I've addressed multiple times that the dishes were dirty (let's say I pick up the spoon to feed oatmeal to my baby and the spoon has marks from previous person, or I pick up my cup to pour coffee and it has a circle from tea or coffee from before) but up until we left the issue was not fixed, as well as our table was not cleaned until we called the manager a couple of times. The only person whom I can say THANK YOU is the lady Yaniriz who was our house keeper, she was amazing!!!

    “If you like food don't go.”

    This was my first trip to the DR. This hotel was amazing. Rooms were beautiful and clean. The public areas were awesome too. Zero complaints about the location, the facilities, or the people. But the food was horrible. The buffet food was gross. Everything looked good but most of it was horrible. We even tried the specialty resturants and they were barely edible. Needless to say the silver lining was that I lost weight on this all inclusive vacation. Will not be back until they completely replace their kitchen staff and management.
