    “Amazing Vacation”

I just returned from a 4 night, 5 day stay at Barcelo Bavaro Palace. From the very beginning, pick up at Punta Cana airport to drop off was amazing. I would definitely recommend splurging the extra for premium level. Sonny in Premium helped us with check in, making reservations, answering all of our questions and check out. She was so friendly and helpful! The staff there are all friendly and helpful. The food was good, you should make reservations early for the hibachi. The steakhouse and Mexican were delicious! You can take out paddle boards, kayaks and a Hobie catamaran. You can get a lesson the first time on the Hobie for $35 and then take it our as much as you want after that for free. Our instructor was Juan, he was fabulous! We booked excursions, horseback riding on the beach in the AM and snorkeling. Our snorkeling trip got canceled due to weather and unclear waters. I got a full refund. I was glad they canceled and didn't take us out with bad conditions. There are so many things to do for the teens. We went to celebrate my daughter's sweet 16. I was there with her , her best friend and her best friend's mom. There is bowling, water park, laser tag, mini golf, shopping and the teen disco. They met other teens there and had a great time. They also have an escape room, Ray was our guide and he was amazing!!! I had two issues with my room and they were both solved in 15 mins. I downloaded the app and reported I didn't have beach towels, within 15 mins they were in my room. Another day my mini fridge was leaking. I left the room and reported it on the app, I got notice on the app in 15 mins that I had a new refrigerator. The rooms were super clean and maid service came twice a day! I will definitely be returning with my entire family next time!

“Lovely family vacation - until we all caught hand foot and mouth”

Spent a week in late June/early July at Barcelo Bavaro Premium. My wife, two boys (22 months old and 6 years old), and me. Check in at premium was easy. We weren't prepared for how long a walk our room was from the main area, but we got used to the walking, and my kids enjoyed the trains that ferry you back and forth. Junior Family Suite was great - two rooms were especially ideal for families with little ones. Some of the reviews mention the lack of privacy - the toilet is behind a frosted glass door that has an oval hole instead of a door knob. If bathroom privacy is important to you, these rooms are not great for you. Room service was fresh, warm, and pretty good. Included with premium, and we had breakfast in most mornings. People were very nice. Lots of smiles. My 6 year old enjoyed the kids club, although it may have been because he was allowed to play tons of video games and watch movies. They did plan some activities for kids, but communication with parents was terrible. So, we dropped my son off on our last day there, and when we went to pick him up, he cried talking about how there was a water gun fight (organized by staff) but he couldnt go because he didn't have a bathing suit. Nobody told us about this when we dropped him off. It was a really bad way to end the vacation, and we were all really bummed for him. They should do a better job of telling parents about this stuff. That said, I felt like they were all very nice, and my son loved it. That does continue a trend we saw with communication. Especially with Premium Service, I felt like communication could have been better. Food was just ok at the buffets. The Japanese place was fun for the kids and delicious. Steakhouse, La Comedie, and Italian were all pretty good. We thought the service at the Mexican restaurant was absurdly terrible - nobody really checked on us. La Brisa, on the Adults Only side, was amazing. Go there as much as yuo can (no kids). Quiet, great service, great food, right on the beach. Amazing. 6 year old enjoyed the water park immensely. Pools are lovely but got busy in the afternoon. All in all, a great trip. Until. The day after we returned, it became clear that our baby had contracted hand foot mouth. Late in the trip he developed what seemed to be a bad diaper rash, but we later learned it was an early stage of hand foot mouth. Then my 6 year old caught it, and I caught it. As I type this, 10 days after returning home, both kids have mostly recovered, but I have like a dozen blisters on my feet, about that many on my hands, and a sore throat/ No Fun. With kids in pools, things happen. But, at the restaurants, they could do a much better job sanitizing the kids chairs. It would take 3 seconds to spray them with Lysol after being used, which might help contain outbreaks. I emailed the hotel to tell that about this, that three of us caught hand foot mouth, and suggest the Lysol, and I did not even get a response. Given all of this, I am not sure I would return with kids. Perhaps an adults trip where we stay out of the kids pools (the Adults Only Side looks great). But I am disappointed that I did not even get a reply to my email.

    “Not the Best”

Check in was better at Premium Level but still took over 45 minutes of waiting. There were constantly out of Premium Level drinks and only had "well" liquor. The place was very crowded. The biggest issue was there was no beach service for drink and more importantly food. You had to get dressed to go inside to eat leaving the pool or beach. The beach was filled with seaweed and the water not clear. This is the Atlantic side not the Caribbean so water is not crystal clear. The Pants Only (Men) policy for dinner is crazy for a beach hotel and even more insulting when women can wear what they wanted with most of their skin hanging out. I found most of the hotel staff rude and very accommodating. The initial room we were in had ants so we moved to a unit. The family suite was perfect for our family of 5 and the view was pretty Also there were very limited activities for the children and/or adults. Used to the bigger resorts always having something happening.. I am not sure what premium level gets you but I would not recommend paying extra. I would not go back and this is what I call a one and done!

    “Awesome!!”

This was a fabulous place. We loved the pool area because it was huge and not crowded. Waitresses came around often and the swim up bar was nice. People complain but all you have to do is tip $1 for each round and they are happy to help. These poor workers don’t have much money so any money helps and they work hard to earn it. The family junior suite was awesome and perfect for my family of five. The buffet was plentiful and there was food for every taste. The restaurants are great...especially Le Comedie (only premium level), Kyoto, and Mexico Lindo. We left $5 after each meal because AGAIN they deserve a tip because they work so hard. The best excursion was a catamaran/snorkeling/natural pool trip with The Happy Fish boat company. It was AMAZING!! Our family had the time of our lives. Luis and Captain Crispy treated us like royalty and made sure we always had drinks in our hands. This resort was perfect for my family and they had tons to do. Our only issue is that the trip could only be five days long.

“Not My Best Stay In Paradise”

Check-in at the Premium Level Lounge was excellent. At the regular check in was a nightmare, long lines, long waits. We stayed on the family side upon advise of our travel agent, nicer rooms, he was right. Very nice room. Good hot water, good AC, good TV, all normal room amenities plus a nice bottle of Barcello Rum. Restaurants: Santa Fe Steak House and the Japanese Restaurant were excellent. The rest of them were not very good, Seafood Restaurant was terrible. Most of the restaurants you were restricted as to what you could order, I have never been to an all inclusive that I could not order what ever I wanted to from the menu. Serious communications problems through out the whole resort. Most resort workers had problems with the English Language. Only one swim up bar and it is on the family side. Due to the children all mixed, frozen drinks were pre-made and alcohol was just added to the pre-made mix for adults. Terrible frozen drinks on family side. Frozen drinks on the adult side were much better. Very big resort, you might be 5 or 6 deep at swim up bar to order a drink. Very few drink attendants circulating taking drink orders. Buffets were fair. Pretty much the same everyday. Premium Level buffet, breakfast and lunch in the Seafood restaurant was better. They claim Premium Level gave you top shelf liquor, wrong, if you wanted top shelf liquor you had to pay for it, NO CROWN ROYAL at all. Their version of Crown Royal was CC. I have never been to an all inclusive, and I've been to a lot of them that I had to pay for Sake at the Japanese restaurant if I wanted some, Big Time Bummer. Presidente draft beer very good and Tangueray and Tonic hard to mess up. I have never been to a resort where there were so many T-Back Bikini bathing suites, most of them were pushing baby strollers, lol. All in All it was a fair vacation, better than a week at work but I will not go back there.
