    “Awful food”

    We paid 15 usd for buffet lunch. The food was awful. The only chicken offered was greasy fried chicken. Only seafood was conger eel. Wine tasted like vinegar and only cheap national beer was available. The buildings were rundown as if nothing has been upgraded in 20 years.

    “The location was beautiful, the room not so much”

    The location, grounds, pool, wildlife are amazing. The room was not good at all. I loved the macaws and iguanas that were plentiful. The pool, staff, and food were good. The room needed a total renovation and the flooring and bathroom had mold. I only had hot water half my stay. Wifi did not work in the room as it should have. Air system was terrible. Other than the room, the stay was great.

    “Our Favorite beach retreat”

    We have been going to Barcelo Tambor off and on for 12 years. The good food, beautiful beach, friendly staff and reasonable price make this our favorite beach stop in Costa Rica. The trip form San Jose by car and ferry is very scenic and enjoyable. The staff recognizes us from previous years and we feel really at home here. Great security. We will continue to return.

    “Don’t go to Barcelo Tambor”

    Very poor customer service Refused wifi usage when requested No towels in the room Reception staff arrogant and unhelpful Issues resolution was non existent Restaurant staff were very good as were the housekeeping Management should be trained in conflict resolution

    “Beach great, but beware of AC land trip from airport!”

    Beach and ocean great, buffet food good but repetitive,not great selection, fresh fruit best ever eaten! Japanese and Rancho steakhouse quite good. Resort very remote! Don’t expect to walk anywhere, but beach, only small town close, nothing there . No shopping, market etc. Resort very clean, beautifully landscaped. Everything in Spanish, even entertainment as cater to Costa Ricans, 98% of guests! Filled the resort on the weekend and took over. No English!!Lonely if a social person and have not mastered the language. Unfortunately, through a mixup with our Travel agent we should have been at a resort with more English speaking Canadians! Air Canada rep at airport sent the 2 of us from airport alone for the 4hour trip to resort ( she said 2.5-3)with a driver speaking only a few words in English. Due to construction through the mountains, for about 29-30 km ,we were terrified of the road conditions. Yellow and orange tape barricades to drop offs etc. And a driver who though he was in the Daytona 500, all over the narrow road and hairpin turns...first thing arriving wanted another way to depart! Tried twice AC would not cooperate, saying road safe...according to their standards maybe but...Customer relations amazing trying to help, saying happening all the time with CND’s.10 of us there trying for help. Small local airport down the beach fully booked for a departure flight to airport to Liberia to avoid road. No AC rep at resort ( apparently she said does not have to be there as far away and AC knows) cannot get in’s and out at a meeting as none! Flounder around finding out things for yourself! First time ever at a resort for us! Air Transat had a rep and her folks mainly came by ferry , not land, and she was there for them! Sorry, never again..loved ocean, beach,weather but stressed with AC attitude and no representation and no English.
