    “The worst hotel ever”

    It was a total mess since our arrival, we had to change rooms three times, the first room smelled like hell, the second one was at the end of the hotel too far from everything and the tird one was dirty the sink wont flush the water we had no towels until 11 pm when they finnally arrived because i called 4 times to get them. The A/C didnt worked as espected and all the noise from the outside of the room we can hear it inside, so there was no rest at all. I dont recommend this hotel.

    “Not the same as before”

    I first traveled to this resort a few years ago when it was called Barcelo. Everything about the hotel was amazing which is why my family traveled again. I loved it so much that I came back when the name changed now to Occidental Caribe. As a Dominican-American, I expect the staff to treat EVERYONE who is paying money to be here with respect. I felt that because I appear like a local (brown skin, curly hair), they treated me terrible. Some of the staff members were not willing to help or would attend customers of light skin color before me. I felt discriminated against many times. I would love to go back because the hotel on its own is beautiful but it is unfortunate when your own people treat you like that because you are not light skinned. Also, the room we stayed at had a shower with a leak. Whenever we would shower, the water would leak. This happened every day for the rest of our stay. The staff NEVER offered us a room and NEVER apologized for the inconvenience. I am taking another family trip and would have love to visit this hotel again, but unfortunately, I prefer to take the risk and take them to a new hotel then embarrass myself.

    “The Spa”

    I highly recommend the resorts spa services, known as Spa Caribe. The aloe vera treatment after a few days of experiencing sunburn was the most relaxing and cooling experience. Great customer service!

    “Great place to go”

    We just returned a few days ago, the resort and people are fantastic. The food,pools and beach are wonderful. I would like to give a shout out to Luis and Heidey our servers,they were absolutely the friendliest of employees. Also,Jersey Gian our Expedia representative was just awsome at bookings and handling resort issues. The only problems we encountered were that the resort is very reluctant to provide washcloths and the air conditioners are set to not cool below 75°F. Other than that,I would highly recommend this resort.

    “Terrible service... Robbed...inside job... And terrible service!!”

    Terrible!! Don't go!!! We had the worst service. Rooms dirty. No towels. No soap or toiletries. Have a 7 month old baby and realized that our bed sheets were full of sand and dirty and had to have our bed sheets changed at midnight. If you don't speak Spanish... Don't go. I do but no one in my group did. They robbed my mother in law of 1,100 dollars. I am so upset I will never go back. Dominican hospitality and service was pathetic. I am Latino and embarrassed to have had my family visit. Sorry if I made spelling errors... I am typing this as we wait to go w the police to fill out the stolen money report. They can't do the report here(hotel) they have to drive us.... UPDATE! They were supposed to send a representative from the hotel w us to the police station,turns out the head of security played dumb and pretended not to know what the procedure was, then when the police insisted on representative from the hotel being present they sent the head of security that played dumb and pretended that he was confused and thought that we didn't need someone from the hotel staff. It turns out that the head of security bought the staff time enough to get their story straight which bought them enough time to spend 2,000 dollars on my father in law's credit card which we did not catch until we got back. Here's the kicker! His wallet mysteriously reappeared in his safe before we left the hotel!!! The lady at the front desk slipped and said "did you find your wallet this morning?"
