    “Amazing Jungle Resort”

My wife and I stayed at the Occidental at Xcaret Destination from February 9-16, 2019. We absolutely loved our stay here, and we plan to return next year with our kids. We are Occidental Vacation Club members, this was our first trip to this resort (and to Mexico.) I'm going to lead with a couple of negative points because I think they're important to note. The beach at this resort is small, and there was a lot of seaweed that came in when it rained/stormed. If swimming at the beach is what you're looking for, this may not be the resort for you. They worked VERY hard every day to clear the seaweed, but it wasn't until our final day that we managed to get out deeper than my knees. The beach is still fine for sunbathing and has a bar right beside it. We ended up spending more time at the adults only area right out by the ocean. Not much sand there but plenty of sun and a great view. Also a minor negative point: If you are First Club (we are) you do get free wifi, but only in the First Club Lounge area. At other OVC resorts we have received free wifi throughout the resort. On to the positive aspects of this resort, of which there are many! Normally I would review the a la carte restaurants, but we actually didn't go to any here. I'm sure they were fine, but we ended up eating at the main buffet for dinner every day, for two reasons. First, the food was *delicious*. There were a variety of different options every day with a few consistent staples (ceviche, for example). The main reason, though, that we kept coming back to the buffet was because of the AMAZING service we received from our servers Francisco Mendez and Adrian Chan. Every time we came they greeted us with a smile and made us feel special. For breakfast and many lunches, we ate at the beach club buffet, which has a great ocean view. Otilio Serrano was often our server there - he was just as friendly and also gave us great service. If I had paid more attention to names, I could probably make this whole review about the great, friendly service from the staff at this resort. I do need to also mention Lea Carrera, our representative at First Club. She really made us feel welcome and valued as members. The resort is basically situated in a jungle, so it's a setting unlike any other resort I've been to. We saw monkeys, many iguanas, tons of birds, and other wildlife of all kinds. As you likely know, the resort is right next to Xcaret park. We didn't go this time, we're waiting until our kids come with us. Everything at this resort was well maintained and clean. Our room was great, had everything we needed. Again, we loved our stay here and will be back. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about this resort.

    “Iguanas, Flamingos, Capybaras oh my!”

We did a 7 day stint at the all-inclusive resort in mid-February and had an excellent stay. The favorite thing for our family was the amount of nature and random animals that lived in or near the resort. Our 17 month old son just loved seeing all of them, and it was crazy how many iguanas were just hanging around and scampering by us. Here are some highlights: -we are a same-sex couple with a 17 month old son. There were some other gay couples there that we noticed, as well as many families and couples without kids. All of the staff members treated us very kindly and with respect, there were no weird issues, and when traveling anywhere that is always a plus -The staff was very friendly and helpful the entire trip. Most seemed to enjoy their job and were very helpful -each of the restaurants was delicious and had a wide variety of dishes -the resort is spread out. Some reviews put this as a negative and I can understand why. It just depends on the type of person you are. Our walks to the pool were only a few minutes, to the restaurant area and lobby was less than 10 minutes and to the beach was about 10 minutes. Nothing longer than that. However we are both able-bodied and able to walk those distances. If you have challenges with walking, this may not be the best resort for you. They had a very easy to use golf-cart taxi-system that went all around the resort, so you did not have to walk if you did not feel like it. With our son, he loved walking around the park and looking at all the animals. -there is a fairly large nature area in the middle of the resort with different plants and animals and small nature trails. Also some mayan structures that you can check out. The nature was our favorite part. -the pools were excellent. For the lounge chairs, the system is first-come first-serve, so some people put out towels to save their seats early in the morning. We usually selected chairs on our way to breakfast and it worked just fine for us. There were a lot around, and I am assuming the resort was near capacity as it is the high travel season. -there are different levels at this resort, we were just the main, average level. We had awesome pools, a nice room, and great restaurants. The "royal" level had its own building and pool, unsure what that was like but I was happy with the standard. -Please note that the standard does not include tickets to Xcaret, even though they are connected. Many reviews for this place docked points for that. It was clear to us upon booking. Just read the details and you will be fine. We chose not to do the park due to our young son, but it looked pretty neat. -If you are looking for a great beach experience, this place is probably not for you. The beach area was small. There was a lot of seaweed (as is happening on many beaches all around Mexico) and that was a bummer. They had crews clearing it out and making the beach look great, but it still smelled like seaweed. Not the resort's fault, but was too bad. The beach area is smaller than other resorts, but they had hammocks and cabanas and lounge chairs all there. The cove breaks the waves down which is great for children or people who do not appreciate big ocean waves. Overall we had a great trip and would recommend it to family or friends who were looking for an excellent hotel at a very reasonable price. Our rooms were very clean and spacious, the staff and food were great, and we got a kick out of the iguanas. If you are looking for things to complain about, I am sure you will find them, but a solid resort if you want my opinion.

    “An A-Plus Getaway Resort”

Amazing place to bring your family or a getaway with your spouse. The resort is a place to enjoy nature and modern amenities and entertainment in one place. Our best trip so far after many cruises and Hawaiian trips.

David Diaz and his crew, Jessica Evelyn and Birgitta, were amazing. They were always smiling and helpful. They welcomed us into the complex, made us feel at home. Any issues were handled promptly, which there were very few issues. They gave us information about the area, what to do around the resort and where to eat. Made our trip very relaxing knowing they were there to help everyday.

    “Amazing property”

This was my first all-inclusive resort, having always chose cruises in past years, but wanted to try the all inclusive experience. The environment is BEAUTIFUL being located in a jungle, plenty of wild life to see around the resort including spider monkeys. The overall feel of the resort is relaxed more than I would prefer as I was traveling with friends , all of us in our 20's. The pools were excellently maintained and the staff was constantly cleaning and maintaining the entire property. My room (Junior Suite) was large and spacious and cleaned well daily. A con for me is the lack of selection for beer, which they only carry modelo, corona light and regular, so the drink selection got old fast for me. The beach had unfortunately been covered with seaweed during our stay (which was very malodorous), but the staff was cleaning it up daily to try and get rid of it, but there was too much coming in from the ocean. I would come back to this resort if I was looking for a nice relaxing vacation by the pool/beach for a week. I prefer to party and have a lot of fun with plenty of entertainment but didn't find this to be the case as much as I would like. The staff is extremely pleasant and checkout was fast and efficient. Overall I would recommend this resort but will probably go on a cruise again next year.
