Hotel with history in the Aragonese Pyrenees

Canfranc Estación, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, is located in the emblematic Canfranc Railway Station, inaugurated in 1928. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2002, the station has been the protagonist of important historical events and, thanks to its transformation into the largest luxury hotel in Canfranc, it is now writing a new story connected to the 21st century and its legacy. Its history is closely linked to the railway connection between Spain and France, which opened up new possibilities for the mobility of people and goods.

Work on the Somport tunnel, an essential part of the project, was carried out between 1908 and 1912, but it was not until 1928 that the station was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by King Alfonso XIII and the President of the French Republic, Gaston Doumergue.

Canfranc's important link with France is evident in its architecture, with a style reminiscent of the French railway stations of the 19th century, which can be seen in buildings such as the current Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Designed by the architect Fernando Ramírez Dampierre, it incorporates characteristic elements of the period such as slate roofs, dormers, Art Deco pinnacles and a large central dome. Built entirely of concrete, iron, stone and glass, Canfranc station is also considered one of the greatest jewels of Spanish industrial architecture.
