Despite having a name that’s difficult to pronounce, Brno is a city where it’s easy to feel at home. Despite the events of World War II, this Czech city has risen from its ashes to become an important centre of cultural activity capable of enthralling all visitors. Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Brno opens its doors to welcome guests attracted by the present day Czech Republic.

Discover the magnificence of the Czech Republic

In 1927, the German architect Mies van der Rohe was entrusted with the task of building Villa Tugendhat for Fritz and Grete Tugendhat, a family that owed its wealth to the textile industry. Today this is a World Heritage Site, a genuine example of functionalist architecture after being restored in 2010 and 2012. Other highlights of the skyline are the National Theatre and the Moravian Gallery, which will amaze visitors with their converted industrial appearance.

The historic centre of Brno

The old quarter of the city features the Špilberk Castle, the grounds of which are home to the Gothic castle and two chapels; it currently houses the city museum. However, the most impressive part of the Brno skyline is, without doubt, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, which was first Romanesque and was then rebuilt as Gothic, before finally becoming Neo-Gothic in the 19th and 20th centuries. The views from the tower are not to be missed.

Further from the centre is the Old Brno monastery, where Gregor Mendel studied and lived for many years and where he developed his genetic theories known as Mendel’s laws. After your visit, weather permitting, you can try a Czech beer on the terrace of the Starobrno factory, the city’s largest brewery.

Guests of the Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Brno are assured of a busy schedule that includes all of the city’s tourist attractions. Upgrade your trip by staying in one of our hotels in Brno.
