“Good but not five star service”

Overall good hotel. Dining experience needs improvement in the management of table allocation and staff/service. Food cooked well everyday. Good location. To sum up, in comparison to other five star hotels we have stayed in around the world this just lacked the five star experience. Just needs fine tuning and staff in general to interact better with guests. Attention to the small details count!

    “Sun beds and towels”

We stayed in a private one bedroom apartment within the BRB resort for two weeks and found the accommodation and hotel facilities exceptionally good, the only downside is the hotel allowing guests to put their towels on the sun loungers, their must be a few hundred beds to choose from, I generally came down to the poolside about 9.00am only to find a good majority of the beds certainly with the best locations with towels covering the loungers, (people must come down 'extremely' early to do this) and have the gall to come down after lunch in a lot of cases, unfortunately a lot of people coming down struggle to find beds. I know that this happens a lot at hotels but it's about time hotels like the RBR started to remove towels that have been placed on the loungers to enable people who want to use the beds their and then are able to do so.

    “Manage your expectations”

On the whole, the hotel is quite nice, but just as another recent review, I would like to reiterate that the hotel is closer to four stars than five. Barcelo Royal Beach is one of few hotels carried by all three of the major travel agencies in Sweden: Apollo, Ving (Thomas Cook), and TUI. These agencies rate this hotel 3+, 4 and 4+ stars respectively, and I would most likely err towards the lower end of that spectrum. I also took note of that this hotel is not run by Barceló themselves but is a franchise, where a local Bulgarian company manages the operations. How (or if) this impacts the quality level, I cannot answer, but it is neverhteless some food for thought. Some highlights were that on most occasions, the staff was friendly and attentive to your needs - a special shout-out to Nikolai in the lobby bar who made ordering a hassle-free, pleasant experience. The exterior and interior of the hotel rather nice, including e.g. the pool area, the rooms and the lobby/reception. The wifi performance was satisfactory in all parts of the hotel (however, the management should investigate applying an enterprise-grade solution with a splash page onto the network in order to increase security, as it was now possible to see other devices connected to the network, and quite possibly make room for malicious activity). Netflix on the television - a major plus, but you should teach the janitor you sent to our room to set it up since he refused and we had to figure out how to do it ourselves. The room cleaning was, contrary to some other accounts, not at all bad. The cleaner even put all of our seven pairs of shoes on a neat row. Dust or dirt, I could not find. The food had both pros and cons. Breakfast was good, with the English breakfast offering, pancakes, sandwiches to stuff etc. Sallad bar was nothing short of excellent with a wide variety of fresh vegetables, cheeses, different mixes - everything one could think of, really. However: the main dishes were far from five stars, more like 3+. It was by no means ill-tasting but too simple in its outline, even for a buffet. Different kinds of meats were mostly just fried in a pan and a tad tasteless (and that the table salt was not working didn't exactly help). French fries every day, some rice. Pasta more or less overcooked. To the hotel management I wouldn't say it's a matter of buying more expensive foodstuffs, but trying to make some nice dishes for every theme, putting some more thought (and spices) into what you are cooking, rather than the current presentation that, to me was more reminiscent of a kids buffet on the ferry going to from Stockholm to Helsinki, rather than a internationally-branded five star hotel. (also we looked forward to the Asian night which more or less disappeared?) Dessert on the other hand was absolutely fine. Also, just as one previous reviewer pointed out, the first 3-4 days was CHAOS in the buffet restaurant. Few of the tables were set, leftovers everywhere, we had to hunt for cutleries let alone a table free of food stains and such. Staff seemed not too troubled by this situation but towards the last few days some additional staff appeared to come in and the situation improved. (Shout out to one short-haired lady who ran around and picked up plates like they were on fire, true champ) Pool area was alright, the pool was a bit cold and on occassion plagued by seagulls. The desk where one retrieved pool towels were sometimes unmanned during opening hours. One time they even run out of towels. The towels were alright but some a bit worn out and stained. Although the majority of staff was very friendly, two times (two different people) sighed after I spoke to them, one even walked away from me and seemed to entirely disregard what I was saying. (For the sake of the curious, both times were me asking - in a friendly manner - for a coke). As a final feedback, the hotel should pay some extra attention to the various environmental concerns. How can one work towards reducing unnecessary plastic, having reusable bottles etc...

    “Terrible service ”

3 nights for 500 euro and you get no room cleaning , no changed towels, even we put table “clean” on the door and tell them on the reception to clean the room. Finally they bring us towels but they gave us feet towels because they didn’t have normal one. The prices are 5 stars but the hotel is not!

“good holiday shame about the service”

Stayed for one week all inclusive from June 11th. Room was very nice, beds etc made every day and clean towels if we wanted them. We found that the food was good but Royal Beach needs to have ' in house training' for the majority of the restaurant staff. Rather than clear one table and then replace with clean, all the staff seemed to remove a glass from one table, a plate from another and so on instead of completely clearing and replacing one at a time. Often had to wait for tables to be cleared during meal times which caused problems with blocking areas. Also, we found that the majority of female staff in the restaurant never smiled or even returned a smile. They did not seem to be enjoying their work. Also, plates were an issue. For hot meals the plates were usually plentiful but to find a cold plate for salad or dessert was very hard. Also, maybe a list could be put up somewhere to see exactly what drinks are available. It wasn't until the day before we were due to leave that I saw iced tea was available. No problems with sun beds / towels and entertainment was ok on the evening. All in all, we had a lovely holiday and this was our 2nd visit to the hotel.
