    “#1 Resort in Manzanillo for a reason!”

    My adult son and I spent a week at the Barcelo , Feb 15-22, and had a great time. I’d like to let you know our perspective on it! There are some nit picky reviews on here and everyone has to take each with a grain of salt I suppose… First of all, I emailed the hotel prior to our arrival, requesting certain times for dinner reservations, and asking if possible for a certain type of room. The hotel got back to me promptly, and I was very happy with the room we got, and the dinner reservation times we within 15 min of my requested time. If they have the availability, they really try to accommodate you!! The concierge desk ( down the stairs from the lobby ) is separate from the main lobby reception, and was NEVER lined up. This seemed though to be overlooked as where people should go to change their reservations if they wanted to. I do agree, the main lobby reception was slow but you have to remember , this is Mexico, not a Canadian hotel. Room - as others have stated, large, well cleaned, stocked, and completely on par with other 4 star or above AI. We did tip every day except one, and I also asked ( via note left by the coffee maker ) for an extra package of coffee, and it was doubled every day for the week. Always had fresh face cloths, towels, mini bar stocked. Food - breakfast at the Capri ( which is the Italian Ala cart for dinner ) was our preference.. smaller than the main buffet, but the outside seating area’s view couldn’t be beat. The service was excellent every single day. They do lunch there as well, and it’s order off the menu as well as a buffet which was awesome. The tacos la pastor were fabulous. It does take some time to get your food , but they have a lot of orders and only a few cooks behind the grill. We only did the Mexican Ala cart ( but 2 nights - just ask at the concierge if you want to see if they have availability for that evening if you don’t have reservations. ) Pools - as others have said, amazing. Not one thing you could even complain about. The fact that there are so many secluded spots where there may only be 20 people around you was incredible. We did not personally witness any reserving of chairs where the people didn’t show up. People ( as we did ) just put their stuff on the chairs they wanted, went for breakfast, and then showed up. Waiter service, at times a bit slow, was great! but really, you can get just up and walk a few steps to a bar and order your own if you didn’t want to wait. Location - we went off the resort almost every day. It is such a safe, wonderful area, take some time and experience Manzanillo! Most days, we walked up the driveway to the road, and caught the local bus! It’s the one with a big number 1 in the front window, just flag him down, and he’ll stop wherever you are. 7 pesos per person. When you want off, just stand up and walk to the door, or push the button by the back door. No need to use a bus stop. Goes all the way to the iguana sanctuary, ( just past the malecon / el Centro / downtown, and then goes all the way back past playa miramar, to turn around and do it again. Stays right on Miguel Blvd ( the main strip ). Very safe! We ate at a lot of local restaurants, had drinks at different places, and loved people watching and shopping off the main touristy places! Taxis are readily available as well, and for very cheap! Overall, this resort is a lovely change from the massive ones by Playa Del Carmen, or Puerto Vallarta. Yes, you could find little things to pick apart, maybe some tiles need replacing, maybe they ran out of bacon one morning, etc etc etc, but in a nutshell, the Barcelo Karmina is well worth the money, and Manzanillo is the old Mexico we love. We’ve stayed in so many all inclusives all over Mexico and this one is definitely one I’d return to in a heartbeat.

    “Great resort with some downfalls!!”

    My family stayed there for 2 weeks. Beautiful place to stay. We all enjoyed ourselves. The Staff was great. There was some downfalls to this place. I'll go with the good then get to the not so good. The room (good): Our room was nice and big. Huge bathroom with 2 sinks. We got a room with an ocean view but we also could see the pools. It was very well kept and we would come back to a clean room each day. Room (bad): The fridge was only refilled when my boyfriend would tip... Doesn't seem right to me. With 4 people 2 include kids you would expect it to be refilled each day! Also the bathroom door would lock as it was broken. The restaurants (good): They had 3 different types of restaurants which is great. The hotel does pretty book you for 3 of the restaurants as well. The Mexican and Italian were are favorites. Lots of different types of food to choose from. The waiters were always so friendly and quick. Restaurants (bad): the Japanese restaurant was horrible. There portions are tiny and honestly not that good. The waiter was a jerk and it took an hour for our food to get to us and 2 cranky kids because it was taking a long time. Also he didn't come back to offer us any more drinks. It took over 30 minutes to get desserts. We never went back after that. DISAPPOINTING!!!!! As being there for 2 weeks we got 6 reservations and the 1st week they were not spaced out at all and were1 really late considering we have 2 younger kids, booking the next 3 were a chore as they never had any of the times we wanted and we had to wait a long time in line to just book them. Something needs to change there!!!! Check in: was a breeze didn't even have to go to the front desk to get our room keys. Flying on sunwing we got all put keys and papers once we landed in Mexico!! The staff (good): The staff seemed friendly and helpful!! Very polite! The staff (bad): They told us we couldn't reserve the beach chairs ahead of time and everytime we would go down there there were towels on chairs and no people even around. They do cater to there locals more than tourists. We did get fed up after awhile and take towels off the chairs because no one wold be using the chairs till later afternoon. The staff basically told us they couldn't take the towels off!!! VERY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING!!! Entertainment crew (good) All of them were fantastic! The shows were awesome. There was alot of hard work into putting those shows together! Our family loved watching them each night! The kids mini disco was a hit with our kids. Just before the show around 830 the mini disco started and all the kids could come up on stage and dance with some of the Staff. Carolina with the Barcy club was FANTASTIC with the kids. She did some many different things with the kids. My kids loved her! THANKS CAROLINA!!! Also Cristian was awesome!!!! They also have a Disney show that was awesome kids loved it!! The entertainment crew (bad): Being there 2 weeks the shows don't change so it got boring fast for us. A change would be good!!! Our sunwing rep Miguel: He was so helpful with any questions we had. He also gave us great places to eat outside of the resort. Thanks Miguel!!!! The outside was very clean and well kept. We always seen the workers out there working hard to keep it clean!!! I'd come back to this resort!!!!

    “Great Holiday.”

    Had a great holiday at the Barcelo Karmino. We had a great view, room 5013. Room was very spacious, outdated a bit but it appears they are doing some updates as seen a few rooms under renovation. Bathroom was huge with a shower and a tub along with 2 sinks. Lots of pools, some not very deep but one was over my head when I jumped in. Never had too much problem getting a sun lounger in the morning. We had breakfast everyday at the Italian restaurant. The egg lady made the best omelets. We usually had lunch there too, where you could order off the menu. We at at the buffet every night, didnt do any of the ala cartes. The servers and bartenders were all friendly and efficient. The maid service was also great. She would see us leaving the room in the morning to hit the pool and ask us if we were ready to have the room cleaned. The only thing I missed at this resort was the sound of the waves crashing and chocolate martinis. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Manzanillo. I also used the spa twice for massages as I through my back out while I was there. I also had great service there.

    “Some things great, some things could be improved.”

    My husband and I travel to Mexico twice a year. This was our first time at a Barcelo resort and our first time in Manzanillo. We were at the Barcelo Kamina Feb 10-17. Here is a list of some of the things that were great: Staff were wonderful. Massage at the spa was one of the best ever. Room was large and maid service was excellent. Resort itself was beautiful and always kept clean. Ambiance, service and food at Mexican restaurant was awesome; the Italian restaurant was lovely as well. Buffet was good with lovely outside seating available. Could use improvement: Provide hair conditioner along with shampoo. Post and announce activities and location in several places. More entertainment staff for daily activities. Trim the palm trees that block view in Ocean View rooms. Keep all 3 a la carte restaurants open daily rather than closing one each day. Repair the broken tiles in some of the pools. Add wait staff in a la carte restaurants on holidays or busy times as service was very poor on Valetine's Day at the Japanese restaurant. The weather was fabulous and overall this trip was pleasant.

    “Excellent family vacation ”

    We stayed feb 8 to feb 22 in the ocean view room. The view was amazing. Really enjoyed the 2 week stay in this beautiful resort. First off we would like to really thank carolina in the kids club she is awesome. Does different arts and crafts and pool activities daily. Our kids really enjoyed her during our stay. And would also like to thank cristian. He does an amazing job with all the daily activities. Also our sunwing representative miguel was really helpful and told us some amazing restaurants to eat at off the resort Evening shows Entertaining and amazing dancers lots of hard work put into them. They have a different show everynight but after 7 days they do repeat. At 8:30 everynight the do the mini disco for the kids. They can get up on stage and dance and our daughter really enjoyed that. Beach The beach is nice its really small but was perfect for small kids no big waves. A little rocky but what do you expect for a man made beach. Biggest thing that i did not like was that they told us at our welcome meeting you cant save chairs. What happened seen multiple chairs empty with towels and no one around for over a hour. 8 times out of 10 it was the local people. This resorts caters to the local people more than the tourists. I talked to a few workers about it and they pretty much said that the cant move the towels off the chairs. So i did it myself. This goes for the pools as well. I would go down around 9-10 to the pool and see chairs with towels and no one around. And again it was local people. Take 10 chairs and only use half of them. Pools The pools were awesome and maintained very well. Two 18+ pools witch was nice if u didnt want to hear screaming kids Restaurants The dress code is pretty relaxed. I seen lots of people wearing shorts in the Japanese and on our reservations card it said. No shorts. Also they pre book your a la carts the first 3 were not spaced out at all and late times. It was a pain to change them. Long lineup to wait then told they never had times we wanted. And restaurants were never really full when we did change them. Buffet was very good. Lots of selection and evey day the have a different theme for food and repeats after 7 days. A la carte Japanese Was the worst restaurant our server was rude and it took over an hour to get our food. Then took half hour for desert. Never offered us wine or anything. We never returned Mexican restaurant was our favorite. We ate here 3 times in our 2 week stay. And its right on the ocean Italian was good as well. The pasta portions were really small and i had to order 2 bolth times we ate here. Rooms Our room was awesome nice and big and the bathroom had 2 sinks and stand up shower and a tub separately Fridge stocked daily with 6 coronas pop water and nuts I just seemed days that i did not tip the maid the fridge was not stocked and i know she never forgot cause when i tipped it was full. Reason i never tipped everyday is cause it was usually at least 100 pesos every 3 days. Overall we did love this resort and would recommend it for a great vacation. Carolina from kids club.did mention that if she gets good reviews that management would get her new stuff for the kids club. I dont think she is asking much and i hope that management gets her new stuff. You can tell she really loves her job and does a fantastic job. I know this resort brings in $$$$ so please get her stuff

Biggest thing that i did not like was that they told us at our welcome meeting you cant save chairs. What happened seen multiple chairs empty with towels and no one around for over a hour. 8 times out of 10 it was the local people. This resorts caters to the local people more than the tourists. I talked to a few workers about it and they pretty much said that the cant move the towels off the chairs. So i did it myself. This goes for the pools as well. I would go down around 9-10 to the pool and see chairs with towels and no one around. And again it was local people. Take 10 chairs and only use half of them. Pools The pools were awesome and maintained very well. Two 18+ pools witch was nice if u didnt want to hear screaming kids Restaurants The dress code is pretty relaxed. I seen lots of people wearing shorts in the Japanese and on our reservations card it said. No shorts. Also they pre book your a la carts the first 3 were not spaced out at all and late times. It was a pain to change them. Long lineup to wait then told they never had times we wanted. And restaurants were never really full when we did change them. Buffet was very good. Lots of selection and evey day the have a different theme for food and repeats after 7 days. A la carte Japanese Was the worst restaurant our server was rude and it took over an hour to get our food. Then took half hour for desert. Never offered us wine or anything. We never returned Mexican restaurant was our favorite. We ate here 3 times in our 2 week stay. And its right on the ocean Italian was good as well. The pasta portions were really small and i had to order 2 bolth times we ate here. Rooms Our room was awesome nice and big and the bathroom had 2 sinks and stand up shower and a tub separately Fridge stocked daily with 6 coronas pop water and nuts I just seemed days that i did not tip the maid the fridge was not stocked and i know she never forgot cause when i tipped it was full. Reason i never tipped everyday is cause it was usually at least 100 pesos every 3 days. Overall we did love this resort and would recommend it for a great vacation. Carolina from kids club.did mention that if she gets good reviews that management would get her new stuff for the kids club. I dont think she is asking much and i hope that management gets her new stuff. You can tell she really loves her job and does a fantastic job. I know this resort brings in $$$$ so please get her stuff
