    “Relax with cubalibre”

Very good resort, a small citadel if you consider also the adjacent Bavaro Palace. Nothing to say about food and drink choice, room tidiness, staff organization, animation guys etc. Everything well organized and maintained. Many reviews before have described the resort, so I try here with my personal tips/suggestions for future guests and as well some remarks for the Barcelo' staff to improve in some aspects (hope it will be appreciated). If you book directly via My Barcelo' you have free internet (or else you need to pay a fee), possibility of room upgrade and late check out and as well a voucher (5% value of the cost of your stay) to spend for hotel services. A remark for the reception staff, it looks like there is a little confusion about the voucher. When I checked in nobody told me about it, I need to specify it the day after and they need to double check before to confirm it. Anyway it was not really clear for what the voucher could be used. You can use it for the restaurants not included in the all inclusive (like the Japanese one) or for the spa. But you cannot use for the excursions or for the gift shop. Actually I was not able to redeem my voucher since when I checked out, they told me I had to pay cash the bill for the shopping at the gift shop charged on my room. It was not possible to use the voucher for shopping. So it would not be bad to clearly state what it is possible to buy and what not with the voucher. Restaurant tip...I loved having lunch at La Briza restaurant near the beach, you can use it instead of the main buffet one. There is less food choice, but the view and the sensation to have a table in front of the ocean is definitely worth. General tip...if you need to change in US dollars you need to go at the casino, at the reception they only change in pesos. Finally some words on the seaweeds issue. This is a big problem which cannot be afforded only by the hotel. I do not understand why at higher level, like regional or State authorities, they do nothing to clean the beaches. I would have definitely charged myself of an additional daily tax, if someone had cleaned the beach each morning. I leave the Barcelo' people to pass my message at higher level...this is potentially an issue which could affect the whole economy of Punta Cana region, so some action needs to be taken.

    “Very disappointing food/drinks”

We stayed at the Barcelo Bávaro Adults Only Resort and the pros in my oppionion were the atmosphere, pools, activities, and overall relaxing vibe. We did all inclusive and were most disappointed with the food and drinks. I was expecting decent quality, kind of like a cruise, but it was worse. There was a wide selection at the buffet but the quality was really bad. It seemed like everything was either sitting in watery juice or sitting in butter for hours. I honestly couldn’t tell you one thing I felt was actually good. Even at the restaurants, the few times I did ask for modifications they couldn’t understand me. The drinks were not good either. I love piña colades and they had machines with piñas and daqueries but somehow everything was so watery and not cold. They only have one beer (Presidente) which seemed watered down too because I drank it all day long one day and felt no buzz at all (I don’t even drink often). All wine was extra except a house wine, which again was watered down and really bad. The waiter even told us that it was bad. It really frustrates me because it seemed like the only way you could get a decent drink was to pay more for the higher quality liquor and also tip the staff more. I just felt that that defeated the “all inclusive” purpose. Although the resort itself is beautiful and fun, the food and drink situation really put a big damper on the trip. We lived off of French fries and Diet Coke..... I was also disappointed in the lack of recycling. Every drink comes in a flimsy plastic cup with a straw and the pools and beaches are littered with them. All water was bottled, which I get and appreciated the clean water. But if you’re serving so much plastic at least put more recycling areas out. I only saw maybe 2 on the beach. None at the pool or in rooms or walkways. :( Overall, if they stepped up their food and drink game then this place would be worth it.

    “Amazing resort”

What can we say about this resort that has not been said already? First let me address the complaints that we read in other reviews before we booked this spot. Some reviewers complained about not getting free WiFi. If you are a My Barcelo member you get free WiFi for one device. If you are a My Barcelo member and you book a premium room you get two devices. You are on a tropical vacation, do some research instead of complaining about WiFi. The other most common complaint was the amount of walking. There are two trams that run between The Barcelo Bavaro Palace, Clubhouse, family zone and Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults only. My wife had tendonitis in her ankle, wo while we were looking forward to the walk back from the ala carte restaurants after dinner, we were relegated to using the tram. It takes about 8 minutes on the longest loop. Now, onto all the other things about this resort. We booked the ocean suite ocean view room and it was worth every penny for the upgrade. We have stayed with the Barcelo chain three previous times (2013, 2016, 2017) and have always found the resorts to be amazing. This was our first time ever booking the Premium Level, and we were looking forward to a new experience at a Barcelo property. I first have to say that we booked a private transfer with a company Transfers.do and we booked the VIP service. My review of that service can be found here and I will admit that service started the entire Dominican experience off on a great note. Upon arriving at the resort the bellhop took our bags and asked “Are your checking in, are you premium.” HE whisked us and our bags to the Premium lounge where we were greeted with excellent service. My wife enjoyed champagne while they quickly got our file together, and I enjoyed an ice cold El Presidente. TIP: do the online check-in before you arrive. Putting in all your information ahead of time saves both the Premium check in and regular concierge tons of time getting you to your room and on the beach. I have read complaints about wait times at resorts and I have found it is rarely the staff, it always people that are not prepared for checking in. Help them help you. We were given our room keys and the bellhop brought our bags, including my golf bag, to our room right away. We stayed in room #2087 in building #2, adjacent to the pool and right near the Bar Bohio (chill out bar). The room was fantastic. 2 full bathrooms, a sitting area living room, and a seating area with a dining table. The bedroom was equally awesome with a king size bed, massive closets (for once I actually go hangers instead of allowing my wife to hang all her outfits). Our favourite part of the room was handsdown the double deck overlooking the ocean. We started every morning on the deck and spent time on out there every night when getting ready for dinner. Cleanliness was perfect. We had one issue with our room while at the resort. Our locking mechanism was acting up and not even house keeping could get into our room. Maintenance can and after about 15 minutes they were finally able to get the lock to engage when inputting the card. Perhaps the humidity just got to the lock. The maintenance staff took a look at the lock, attempted to fix and soon decided it would be best simply to place the whole lock. That took them about 45 minutes during which time they needed to keep our door wide open. Before they proceeded however they found a security guard and posted him right outside our room the entire time. Service, service, service! The other issue we commonly read was that the outdoor nightly entertainment was “so loud.” Our room was directly overlooking the pool and the amphitheatre. We could sit on the back balcony in our room and see and hear the entertainment crystal clear. We never had an issue with the nightly entertainment, and we are early risers that oft go to bed around 21:00-22:00 when we are on tropical vacations. If you are sensitive to sounds, make the request to have a room in building 3, 4, or on the other side of the buffet in buildings 5 or 6. The pool and beach: Al I am going to say about the beach is that I se why Punta Cana is rated as one of the top five white sand beaches in the world. Simply amazing. Each day the sea grass would wash up on the beach and there was a ton of it. This is not something the resort can control, and I have read complaints about this as well. Each morning the resort had trucks and a front loader cleaning and hauling the sea grass away. I inquired about where it was taken and I was told it was taken to a composting area to be recycled and used later. In addition to the heavy equipment the grounds team was cleaning up throughout the day and clearing a path to the water. The pool, without screaming and excessive partying was a very relaxing way to spend the days. If you are interested in playing your music loud, throwing a ball around or basically being intrusive to other guests, you will be asked to stop. A few people did get too rowdy in the pool on our trip on couple occasions and they were kicked off the resort. Be warned, adults only does not mean free for all with obnoxious behaviour. Thank you to the resort for this! Buffet: We ate at the buffet a handful of times. The food was good. It was the quality you should expect at a buffet designed to feed 800-1000 people on a daily basis. We read complaints about the food, but the buffet was equally as good as any of the Barcelo buffets we experienced in Mexcico. The best part for us was the international section that had a lot of different dishes from Latin America and South America. We mostly ate at the premium lounge during the day and for breakfast. I mean why not, we paid for that right? The premium buffet at a great selection, if limited, but the food was much higher quality (of course, it’s made in much smaller batches) Ala Carte restaurants and Romantic Dinner: We enjoyed La Brisa, Chez Gourmet (both at the Bavaro Beach), La Fuente, Mexico Lindo and Kyoto. We skipped the Santa Fe steak house and the seafood restaurant as we have enjoyed them at Barcelo Maya several times already. I reviewed each ala carte separately. For this review, I will be brief. La Brisa is casual, and the atmosphere matches the laid back style. Chez gourmet is the best restaurant on the entire Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort property. We enjoyed it twice. Mexico Lindo was my favourite experience because I was craving tacos for some reason. We got to sit right at the grill area and the kitchen staff were fabulous during the entire meal. Kyoto. Book this restaurant first and make sure you get the Hibachi grill. There are tables but you need to get the full hibachi experience. Get the surf and turf and ask for a large portion. You will not be left wanting after this meal. Golf course: The Lakes is a beautiful course. As a premium guest we got one free round per day. My wife joined me on the first round. She does not play but she wanted to see the course. You have to pay for the cart, which is $50.00 USD per person. There are two options for renting the cart. You can rent a cart at 20% off, which I suggest you do if you plan to golf 3 times or less. Since I golfed 3 times and my wife came, there is an option to pay $150.00 USD and you can golf as many times as you want. Since I had to pay for 4 carts (3 rounds for me and one trip for my wife to visit) it made sense to save the money. The course is short. I played as a single early on three mornings, and I was able to finish 18 holes in just over 2 hours. There are a lot of sucker holes on this course. Hole 15 is a 191 yard par 4. If you think your four iron can get you there, note that this is the only hole that points directly at the ocean, so you contend with a constant breeze and the humidity. I pick my four iron clean, straight and long and never made the green. The course is full of twists, challenges and of course amazing views. If you cannot pick clubs clean like you need to from a fairway bunker, then I strongly suggest you put away the driver and play placement golf. You’ll be rewarded for staying on the short stuff. If you are a great bunker player, then the Bermuda rough will not be an issue for you and pull out the big stick and let it fly. Hole 18 is the signature hole and if you lace it at the front right of the green you have an outside chance to clear the water. I made it once, but only on my last attempt. I played an iron to the safe part of the fairway each time but finally had to go for it.

“NOT all inclusive resort with horrible guest rooms and even worse service”

Resort itself is nice... Pool is beautiful but rooms are worthy of 1 star. Front desk staff is rude and not very accommodating. Claims to be all inclusive but only 5/12 restaurants are included... There is a 15$-30$/pp upcharge. Room service is not included and you have to pay $40 for wifi!

Dear guest, We would like to very much appreciate your kind comments regarding our resort and the pool facilities. We have read your comments on the room we have accommodated you in and sincerely regret your disappointment on your room and encourage you for a future holiday planning to visit our website where you will find a thorough description of our hotels' rooms and facilities to make sure you book the one that best meets your holiday needs and wishes. We sincerely think that our Dominican employees from nature are educated and a symbol of hospitality. For that reason, we cannot imagine that our employees are being rude to our valued guests. We have an ongoing training program about courtesy and customer services. Our sincere apologies for any exception, which may have occurred in this aspect. Please note, that our website clearly describes all inclusions within our hotel and the additional facilities to use at the neighboor hotel Bavaro Palace. Also we wish to inform that we offer free wifi in different areas, as well as some of our room categories do include free wifi. Once again, many thanks for your help to get to know the points where we can still improve the experiences of the ones that come to visit us and we truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on your next visit to Bavaro.
