Fuengirola is not just a place where adults have the time of their life and get the best out of their holidays. The town on the Costa del Sol is a place where all ages can enjoy themselves. The beaches offer water sports, volleyball courts and playgrounds in the middle of the sand, while away from the beaches you can find water parks, zip line parks and even a biopark where you can learn about animals in their native habitats.

Water activities with kids: sailing and surfing

Fuengirola’s beaches are brimming with options for little ones, from playgrounds in the sand to volleyball courts that fill up with groups of friends at sunset when the heat is less intense. But if you are looking for fun water-related activities, there are a wealth of options depending on the age of your children and their preferences. The Fuengirola Nautical School, located in the marina, offers introductory sailing courses for all ages and you can also hire jet skis for a ride, accompanied by an adult.

On the same beaches there are booths where you can hire equipment for windsurfing or kitesurfing and you can also take your own paddle surf board for a ride along the coast. If you prefer to explore the coast without expending too much energy, you can also take the little ones on a boat trip to see dolphins, go out on a catamaran or even hire a yacht. Some of these options include stops for swimming in the water or a picnic in the middle of the Mediterranean.

Adventure activities with kids: a different type of zoo

A spot of adventure is always a good plan when it comes to children and even more so if animals are involved. Any holiday on the Costa del Sol would not be complete without a visit to Bioparc Fuengirola, a zoo that is very different from what you may be used to.

The zoo is an immersive experience to teach children about the natural habitats of each of the exotic animals that they encounter along the way, aimed at raising awareness about respecting the environment for their animal friends. This incredible place replicates the habitats of Equatorial Africa, Southeast Asia and even the island of Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, where the different types of lemurs are the kings of the magical natural landscape. You can also learn about how red pandas, the Malayan tapir and the fearsome Sumatran tiger, among others, live.

The park is very close to Fuengirola town centre and has several car parks to make visiting more convenient. You can purchase tickets at the ticket office and also book through the website.

Water parks and amusement parks: huge slides and drop towers

Fuengirola is home to one of the most important water parks in the area and also to two branches of Sould Park Fuengirola, a place full of attractions and amusement for little ones. The park, however, is not your typical amusement park because, in addition to trampolines and Scalextric tracks, kids can also find motorbike-related attractions and a drop tower. Depending on the age, there are American tracks and bouncy castles for the youngest and trains and flying rides for the most daring. Whatever their age, there is something for everyone.

Sould Park is located on the Paseo Marítimo, near Los Boliches beach, and also in the Miramar Shopping Centre. But if what your kids are looking for is an exhilarating experience in the water, Aquamijas is the place for them in Fuengirola. Full of slides and wave pools, plus two playgrounds for smaller children, the park boasts, in total, six slides in different sizes, rides where you will feel like you are gliding down a river and even zumba classes in the pool so the whole family can dance together. The park is open from April to September and has sun loungers and a picnic area for families so that you can set up your base camp before launching from slide to slide.

Family activities at Barceló Hotels

Barceló Hotels takes all its customers into consideration, including its youngest guests, for whom it has designed special activities to make sure the fun never stops on their holidays. Most Barceló Hotels have Mini Clubs with a daily timetable of activities designed for kids, including sports activities, treasure hunts throughout the hotel and craft workshops for more artistic children. What’s more, the Mini Clubs foster friendship and allow children to meet other children with whom they can share unforgettable moments.

Barceló Hotels also have swimming pools tailored for children—their safe space within the water—and many have tennis and paddle tennis courts, which are perfect for family tournaments. Many of them also offer a special service through which you can request sports equipment to make the most of the sports and water activities on offer.
