What to see in Casablanca in 1 day

If you already know Morocco but haven’t yet been to Casablanca, you’ll be amazed by its urban landscape, wide avenues, modern nightclubs and the number of international companies that have their head offices here. Without question, this is Morocco’s most European city. And the evidence of this is everywhere: in its international restaurants, in the modern dress of its people (few women cover their hair here), in the glamour of boulevards such as La Corniche with its exclusive beach clubs, and also in the big shopping centre. Although one day is not enough to see all of Casablanca, it is enough to visit a few of its most iconic monuments, such as the Hassan II Mosque, where it is worth booking your visit in advance as it is a most impressive and popular place. In addition, it is one of the few mosques that allow entry to non-Muslims. Around the mosque lies an enormous esplanade which is, together with Mohammed V Square, one of the city’s most visited places, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Of course, it’s also a good idea to wander around the more traditional neighbourhoods and the areas with colonial architecture. Quartier Habous, or the New Medina, is the perfect place to go shopping in peace, and not be harassed as you might be in other souks. Then there’s the Old Medina, with its labyrinth of narrow streets. Have a good look through our recommended itinerary for a day in Casablanca.
