The historic centre of Almería brings together centuries of history reflected in its streets, squares and emblematic buildings. This guided walk offers an overview of how the city has evolved from its origins to the present day.
The route begins at Puerta de Purchena, one of the city’s oldest access points, before moving through areas linked to its Islamic past, including the Arab Cisterns and the former Muslim medina, associated with Jairán, founder of Almería.
As the tour unfolds, you will pass through landmarks such as Plaza Vieja, the exterior of the Cathedral-fortress and Plaza Bendicho, along with cultural sites like the Cervantes Theatre and the School of Arts and Crafts (subject to availability).
The itinerary also covers the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Mar, the Doña Pakyta House-Museum and the Nicolás Salmerón Park, ending at the Cable Inglés, a notable example of industrial engineering.
Walking through these spaces reveals the city as a layered story, where different periods and influences can be traced step by step.
