Description
Excellent kayak route to discover the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and the landscape of Doñana National Park
We depart from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a historically significant location from which expeditions like Magellan's first circumnavigation of the world and Christopher Columbus's third voyage set sail. It also served as a gateway port for all trade with the Americas.
Our kayak route begins at La Calzada beach, where we'll cross the Guadalquivir River from the Sanlúcar side (Cádiz) to the Doñana bank (Huelva province). From here, you'll get panoramic views of Sanlúcar, distinguishing the upper and lower neighborhoods, Santiago Castle, and the main churches.
Once we reach the Doñana bank, we'll paddle west towards Punta de Malandar, the last beach at the mouth of the Guadalquivir before it opens to the Atlantic Ocean. The next town is Matalascañas, but don't worry, we won't be going that far. We are separated from it by Spain's longest unspoiled beach. This creates a magical feeling you only find on beaches like Doñana's. With a bit of luck, it's not uncommon to see a deer or wild boar coming down to the beach.
The activity includes a return ride in an inflatable boat, so you only have to paddle with the outgoing tide
