What the experience includes
This is a perfect activity for lovers of nature and, above all, bird watching since it takes place in the marshes between Isla Cristina and Ayamonte. It is a real privilege to visit for four hours the Marismas de Isla Cristina Natural Park, where the marshes of the estuaries of the Guadiana and Carreras rivers are located, west of the Costa Luz, almost on the Portuguese border. On this beautiful excursion you can see different types of birds, waders, marine and aquatic birds that live in the various habits that are crossed. On the beaches, salt flats, tidal canoes, sand hooks, pine forests and fish farms it is possible to observe a large number of sedentary birds, such as the lagoon harrier and the patinegro plover; wintering, such as the three-toed sandpiper or the gannet; summer such as the imperial heron; or some passing through such as the common tern or the arctic.
If you visit on a weekend, you can also go to the visitor center, which, oddly enough, is located in the largest tidal mill in Huelva, which was restored a few years ago.
In addition, this area is very accessible from the Huelva capital and also from Seville, just an hour and a half away. Travelers staying at hotels in Isla Canela, Isla Cristina or even the Algarve are very handy for a half-day getaway. The activity takes place in a 9-seater van occupied by 8 people, so you can even organize it for the whole family as it is suitable for all ages.
